He's a good tri-color so expect owners of females wanting him to wine & dine their dogs. One thing though, bassets, as you know, have a lot of weight 'up front' so you may have to help. First time mine tried the bitch couldn't hold his weight up. SO, I had to help her a bit. Bernie just grinned up at me thinking, "THANKS MAN!!!"

Could have the vet 'take care' of that but I couldn't deprive him.

He bred quite a few champions, but all I wanted was the "THANKS MAN!" look.

Enjoy him! Sure miss him.

you know just for a little info basset hounds are not suppose to climb stairs till they are at least 18 months it can really destroy re hip and legs.

He is adorable!. It is true that their backs are something to worry about....but all you have to do is keep him healthy, no overweight and give him constant excercise so he develops good back muscles that will protect his spine.

Don't worry about your Bassett climbing up and down stairs, jumping onto beds, or couches. My Bassett Hound Millie has jumped onto my couch at least a thousand times and goes up and down stairs every day at least three times to go out. She is turning 11 in one week and just got an excellent on her latest comprehensive exam. In addition, she seems to be having a renaissance as of late by doing 10-15 20 foot sprints in the house. Keep your doggie's weight low and you'll be fine.

he's beautiful! but please be careful with him climbing up and down stairs, especially down. Also, make sure he doesn't jump on to beds, couches, or sit on his hind legs.... my basset is 9 now, 2 years ago, he had emergency surgery on his compressed disc in his spine, which is a problem with bassets, made worse by all the things i've said above. He's doing fine now, but he nearly lost his hind legs, and it was absolutely devastating to watch and go through. Love my little guy.
