if the new version brings the matter up again, moderns it a bit for the todays youth audience, it can't be bad.

I also like the 1981 version better than the new german (ok i'm german - but that doesn't matter ;) )

but you have to admit, that we all together always like the stuff better that's made in our time.. there are lots of movies from the 50s 60s that are remade again and were then released in the 80s :) that we liked better back then ^^

I'm from austria and I love this version so much more. The german movie was too violent and overly dramatic, I actually wanted to leave the theater.

This ending blew my mind when I saw it many years ago at school. It's so much more powerful.

The new German version is important. If kids watch this original version here, they see a world they don't know. No cellphones, no internet, funny fashion, language of their parents It's SOMEONE ELSE. You have to remake this story every 20 years to keep it in the NOW. And if it explains some of the rising violence along the way - so be it.

@paulrandig yes but by updating it you take away from it. Back when this took place there were no cell phones or no internet and they dressed alot funnier than that. This is based on a true event so the more you change it the less true what you're potrying will be. How will it help kids if the don't know the true story?

If you want to show them HOW THIS CAN HAPPEN ANYTIME - and this was exactly the purpose of the experiment - show them something from today. If you want to teach them about the original school experiment, why show the old movie? It's still a movie and therefor not "true". Show them a docu or let them talk to the real people..

The thematic is just great (i just ran through reading the play, the original book, the german version and now this original) - The sentence that really made me think was "yes, you woud've made great nazis". I'm convinced that without historys warning, I would too...

Honestly it's not soooo well written. But the scenario itself gives goosebumbs. And it is pretty short, took me only one afternoon...

the american Educational is very close to the book, so, having seen that, you don't have to read it necessarily. Though there are versions with an interview with Ron Jones in it (the teacher who originally conducted the experiment) and thats pretty interesting.

I think this is really kind of creepy. I think it's a great lesson to learn though. We should all have an opinion and never let anyone take it away from us; never be afraid to share it. We have to keep our eyes open. Stuff like this didn't just happen in Nazi germany. It happens everyday to normal people like you and me.

well, since morthon rhue's book is based on this movie's script and the new movie is a new fictional interpretation of Ron Jones' experiment, it's no surprise that the old movie "sticks closer to the book" (just check the movie and book credits)

Actually as the real mr. Ross just told me - neither movie is true to the actuall events.

I allways thought this movie here would be true to the actuall events (at least it is WAY closer than the other movie) but it's not true to the events either. The former students are working on a documentary which will be true to the events so keep your eyes open.

And of course in reality nobody got shot - that's just artistic exageration.

The maker of the German Re-make merely based it on the events, and replaced the time from the date of where the actual experiment ahppened, to modern-day Germany. Consider this an option: If someone were to do this again, in our time, how far do you think the students will go? That someone will buy a gun and starts shooting people is a very possible scenario... As the new one implies: guns can be sold easily to anyone

The events in the german remake did not happen. But the events in the book that this old movie here is based on did basicly happen. Except of course that there was no love story and things where way more terrifying than how they are potrayed here. Some of the old students who experienced it are working on a documentary that is gonna be true to the facts - so keep your eyes open.

I definetely keep my eyes open. One of my teachers when I was at primary second school, tried this with us too, but we refused to create a logo. the other class created a logo, did a slogan AND they were runing outside like.....You know what I mean .___.

He did not make an entire country bad. The german nation simply followed him. that didn't make ALL of them bad. as they said in the beginning of this movie, less than 10% of the german population was a Nazi. I have no respect for what happened back then, yet i do know WHY the people followed Hitler so blindly. But I have to agree about barnsoldat91. He obviously has no real idea of what Hitler caused.
