well, i don't agree with that - this is very common for great guitarists that they become more careful about sounds, simply - mature. and it comes as the way they play - maybe far better technically, but devoid of that youthfull unpredictability...
I can totaly understand where you're coming from, but he can still play a mean fucking guitar, like in this, without the technology behind him... because of that, it makes him rmore youthful than ever...
'but he can still play a mean fucking guitar' - well, can't disagree with that, i love his show from Hyde Park for example, which took place in 1997, but still, i think he plays more orderly nowadays. i'm not saying it's wrong, worse or anything like that, i just prefer 'younger clapton'
I see what you mean, the bulk of the music comes from the backgroud, (bass, drums ect) and it is the most important part, and in many cases the most enjoyable.
