  • It's such a shame that almost all of her songs had that crappy overwhelming too-loud surge of music.....must have been the style of the era, and now it just evokes horrible elevator music. SOFTER on the STRINGS, you idiot producers!

  • Wow, I just realized how much she looks like she looked like Michelle Williams. Huh!

  • what a legendary song from a legendary unforgetable ms. doris day...one of the nicest version i'd ever heard truly a great one...

  • @mmoonriver0712 I is truely a beautiful interpretation from Doris....not surprising....she's one of the best ! So happy you enjoyed !!

  • @mmoonriver0712 Gotta Love It!!

  • Is this the original version of this wonderful song?

  • remember when i was young. time flies like an arrow.

  • @casablanca0910 It flies way too fast !!!!

  • Doris Day beats Sinatra, DAY BY DAY!!! :)

  • @ambertojoe27 I'd say she certainly holds her own .... right up there with the best !!

  • I used to have this album.....played it every day!!! What a beautiful voice.....

  • @stamfordgal Day by Day and Day by Night are both such great albums. She's really is one of the best ballad singers ever !! Happy you enjoyed again !

  • She is just so refreshingly beautiful with a voice of an angel ! So glad she is still with us !

  • @MrRocky9000 Yes... she's still going strong... she's quite a lady !!

  • Nothing but wonderful.

  • @emanuel319 Have to agree with you .... a beautiful interpretation from Doris. So happy you enjoyed !

  • Além de ser uma axelente atriz ela cantava divinamente!!!!!!!!!!!!! Assisti filmes maravilhosos c/ ela. Aqueles filmes dee antigamente...Ah! quanta saudade eu tenho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @AutumnSplendors Isn't it !! I'm sure she's thrilled - Sony had her choose the songs. A really neat thing for her !

  • @AutumnSplendors Isn't she though ! I think she'll always be a favorite. Her popularity just seems to go on and on. Can you believe she's the oldest lady to have a cd in the top ten in the UK ?!! Isn't that amazing !

  • wonderful!

  • @jaydlytning This is such a beautiful song from Doris .. so happy you enjoyed !!

  • 大好きです、ドリス・・・永遠の歌声

  • I am so glad I was born in that time of great music but Doris was

the best singer ever .WE know your are 90 now but you never be

    forgotten , thanks daniac

  • @bertramsf According to the date Doris says she was born - she's 87. But pretty darn close to 90. And, she's still out there in Carmel working for animal welfare. She's quite a lady !! You are so right, I don't think her fans will ever forget her. I'm so happy you enjoyed ... thank you !!

  • Yes, she does, it did bring nice memories of the past back...Thank you again for posting...

  • Yes, Thank You, it was puppy love for me, but you never forget your first boyfriend, especially if there is a song connected to it....Loved her and we share the same birthday......April 3rd....

  • @lasvegaslady Yes... that is definitely a special time in our lives ! This is a great song to bring back those memories. She delivers a beautiful interpretation - no doubt about that !

  • My first boyfriends song for me.....was crazy for this song...

  • @lasvegaslady Hope it brought you some happy memories !!

  • This is the song of which she got her name....Doris Day. I forget who was responsible for it. But, I understood they were trying to come up with a name because her name was rather difficult to announce and they wanted to make it simple.

  • @26Jeanne According to her book, it was actually a song called Day After Day ... which I've not heard a recording of her singing. Dori's first job with a band was with Barney Rapp in Cincinnati at his club The Sign of the Drum. He gave her the name Day because he had heard her sing Day After Day on the radio and he said Kappelhoff wouldn't fit on the marquee !! Very true !

  • @Dayniac4324 thank u so much for making all the doris day vids!! i love all of them <3 thanks again, sorry if im annoying u cuz i keep commenting haha XD but im just addicted to Doris =P i wish i was older than maybe i couldve seen her live or something :( oh well.. thanks again!

  • @GETRAFIX Do not be sorry .. you make me happy that you are enjoying Doris' music ! =) Well .. you'd have to have seen her during her big band days, on tour with Bob Hope or in her radio program audience - before 1952 - I don't believe she sang in public after that. Except maybe while taping her tv specials.. if there was a real audience. She really didn't like sining in public. It would have been so much fun to see her perform !!

  • It's very embarrassing when you find out what you thought was an original song (this was used in the 1989 TV Show, "Day by Day" as its theme song) was actually a remake. I don't know if this is the original, but obviously the later TV theme was not.

  • @nowhereboy I doubt that this is the original ... but it sure is a great version !! I'll have to check into just when this was first recorded. Happy you enjoyed !

  • @nowhereboy This was a cover. I'm wracking my brain as to who had the original hit, but it was a better singer. I have the 78 buried somewhere. I think it may have been Jo Stafford, not sure though.

  • @dyinglikeflies If you search the song you can see all the people that have recorded it .. and there have been many. Jo Stafford recorded it in 1946 - may be who you're referring to. You might get an argument from Doris fans as to your statement of ---- that recording was by a "better singer".

  • @Dayniac4324 Oh-sorry, Doris fans. She happens to be a wonderful lady personally, but I carry a cultural bias against her having reached the apex-apex of stardom as compared to other amazing singers and other actresses of her time, and the bias runs all the way back to the 60's. But in an era when Lady Gaga rules the culture, maybe i shouldn't complain about such things.

  • @dyinglikeflies What the H are you talking about? You have a bias because she became the number one box office star....gosh ... is it possible she derserved it and worked hard to get there ? Is it because she's an extremely talented lady ... and by the way a very caring lady who has devoted her post Hollywood life to animal welfare, and made a huge difference. In my book she's a beautiful talented lady - inside and out.

  • @Dayniac4324 I agree with everything nice you have to say about her, and I am a fan. I just don't think that her charisma was sufficient to have warranted her being at the top of the box office all those years in the early 60's (as was Rock Hudson) or that those movies hold up well. She was actually at her best in her 50's movies with people like Gene Nelson and Gordon Macrae, which weren't as popular on release.

  • @dyinglikeflies If her success offends you so much ... why do you listen to her music ?

  • @dyinglikeflies If her talent and success offend you so much ... why do you listen to her music ?

  • @dyinglikefliesYou say that she wasn't that great a singer. Richard Rodgers who composed I Have Dreamed, wrote her saying that Doris and Jim Harbart's version of the song was"the most beautiful verson he'd ever heard." That's pretty high praise. And as far as "charisma" - most of the big stars had "IT" - thats the reason they were "STARS". If her talent and success offend you so much ... why do you listen to her music ?

  • @Dayniac4324 I told you, I'm a fan. Nothing about her offends me-she's a wonderful lady. Look, if Angelina Jolie is the highest grossing star this year, does that make her the best actress? Is Lady Gaga, who is selling the most records, the best singer?

  • @dyinglikeflies In their cases no don't think so. And I'm not saying Doris was the best actress - she was better than she's given credit. Many of her co stars thought she was one of the best - even James Cagney. And her main problem was her manager husband who signed her to some pretty bad movies, among other things. But as a singer - she is right up there at the top. So yes on that count. And thats about all I have to say.

  • @dyinglikeflies are you serious?! your not a TRUE Doris Day fan!

  • @dyinglikeflies Are you an idiot?!

  • How can I thank you for posting this? I've been searching for this, my favorite Doris Day song. And here it is.

  • @MrDasher01 I'm so happy you found it ! Isn't it a wonderful interpretation from Doris ? I love it !! She's amazing.

  • WOW! Her voice is so clear, and the sax so smooth(kudos to Theodore Nash!)! --Sigh-- recorded in the day when a singer's voice was their best instrument... Thanks for posting, I haven't heard her since spinning my parents LPs on the tube record player in the basement!

  • @feiseldad @feiseldad I think she gives us a beutiful version of this song. Isn't it refreshing to hear a person's voice instead of whatever mechanical stuff they pass off today ??!! She really is one of the best ballad singers ever. Thats funny - I started out my Doris addiction at 10 - listening to my Mom's DD lps ! Well .. there are lots of Doris songs here to rediscover ... thats the reason I joined yt ! To get her music out there. Hope you enjoy more !!

  • what a nice song, I can't stop my tears...

  • @edwardconway27 Doris definitely gives us a beautiful version of this song. So happy you enjoyed !

  • This song was given to me in a dream. I had never heard it before. It makes it even more magical! xxx

  • @mrdavidparkinson51 So happy you enjoyed it ! Doris is magical !!

  • A great version of a great song but as it's by Doris Day it's only what we expect A great, great singer and a wonderful star. Doris I love you I always have and I always will

  • @ted2321 It really is a great version from Doris ... but as you say .. we're not surprised ! I started listening to my Mom's Doris records when I was 10. So I've been a fan for a long long time too !! So happy you enjoyed.

  • Hermosa ,romantica y delicada!

  • I hadn't really ever listened to Doris at all when I was a youngster, but hearing her sing now I realize that one of her greatest attributes, beside her slivery, lush tonal quality, is her ability to avoid any sort of cliche in expressiveness, any quivering vocal tricks or slides that others have latched onto and then proceed with a deeply felt reading of the music and lyric. I found myself mesmerized.

  • @284Maldiner Its so very true. She really doesn't resort to any of that. Just sing the song - no playing around with it. And her interpretation and intimate style are amazing to me. Somehow .. I think thats one of the reasons she has been so overlooked. She's so straight forward and no frills. It seems she gets more recognition with each passing year. She finally received a lifetime Grammy. If you have a moment listen to Who Knows What Might Have Been... wow !

  • @Dayniac4324 And Make Someone Happy ... a good one too !

  • Emily Dickinson wrote that you know poetry when you feel that the top of your head has been taken off. Well, Doris Day's voice is pure poetry. She's a romanticist. Her lovely tonal quality weaves a spell and you want it to go on forever. Thank heavens for recordings. She's a great cultural treasure.

  • @284Maldiner What a beautiful description of Doris and her music. I'm with you ... thank goodness we have her recordings. I listen to her every day. Thats the reason I joined yt .. to get her music out there for people to discove and enjoy. Thank you for your great comment ... just wonderful !

  • I used to think Patsy Cline was my favorite female singer, but now I'm not sure. I think Doris Day is as good a singer as anyone.

  • @62grossman I love a lot of singers .. Patsy being one of them. But - Doris is definitely my favorite. She's has an amazing voice and her interpretation of a song is hard to surpass. So happy you're enjoying her music...thats the reason I joined yt !!

  • I just saw Lil Jimmy Scott perform this song...it was UNBELIEVABLE!

  • thaxs 4 email friend

  • Perfect music , great brings back lots of memories

  • @Dreamer6860 It is a lovely version from Doris .... really happy it brought you some good memories ! Thank you !

  • What idiot disliked this?

  • @sw2385 I can't imagine disliking this ... its a great interpretation by Doris !

Thank goodness the rest of us have good taste !! lol Thanks .. happy you enjoyed !

  • @valdeci6924 Happy you enjoyed !

  • Only Lady Doris can deliver this song with her heart & soul in the way that only she can do...I love her forever...

  • You said it - she's the best at interpreting a ballad. Happy you enjoyed !

  • Excellent job as usual! But now I'm searching for the 1946 version and I can't find it!

  • I'll look at my music - I'm not sure - but I don't think I have it either !

  • Very talented and disciplined rendition. This seeming effortlessness is founded by a lot of musical craftsmanship and smart interpretation. But would this wonderful song ever be a hit today? It's a hit with me....but I really doubt that most of today's women would share such glowing sentiments towards their men.

  • I think you're right - her seemingly effortless interpretation comes from great musical talent. This is a wonderful song.. I'm not sure it would be popular today. And Doris' way of singing isn't . .. because she sings the song simply and as written. Today you have to sing everything but the tune ... sometimes I hear our national anthem and don't even recognize it ! Ah well .... I miss this kind of music .. thats why I listen to a lot of Doris !

Thanks .. happy you enjoyed !

  • Even in Pakistan, in the fifties, seeing this dream on screen caused many hearts to fall hopelessly in love with her...I was one of those teenagers, still am at heart!!

  • I think it was a worldwide affliction ..... falling in love with Doris !! The boys fell in love with her and the girls wanted to be her !! I know I did ... thanks for your great comment !

  • I adore Doris Day, she was a very pretty woman. i love almost every one of her songs ive ever heard. but theres a few of her songs that i like that were released once but never again, like "It Takes Time" which i have on 78 rpm, which is probly the only way to hear it.

  • She is one of the best .. in my opinion.

I have that in a set I have - The Bear Family set. They did 4 or 5 sets of her music. It's not everything .. but it contains a lot of her music from 1947 to 1967 - her Columbia years. I'll have to put that on - its a good one.

    Thanks !!

  • A Beautiful song sung by just a beautiful singer. doris Day knows what she's doing when she sings. This is just plain terrific! PERIOD

  • Agree completely ! Thank goodness she turned to singing after her accident - she is terrific. I think she's one of the best at interpreting a song - no doubt !

Thank you ... so happy you enjoyed !

  • have yu ever seen so many accolades for one singer ? or actress ? ive recorded with "barbra strisand { also great singer !} but doris .. ohhhh .. doris .. wish i could meet her !!

  • would love to meet Doris ! I think she's finally getting some of the recognition she so richly deserves. She did receive a Lifetime Achievement Grammy a couple of years ago. And there are many new books about her in the last few years (some of them I wouldn't read ... untrue info) But ... I hope she continues to receive accolades and recognition for her music. She surely deserves it !

  • sigh.. im still in love with doris !!

  • She's the best !!

  • Have to agree with you ... I love this one from Doris... a beautiful version of this lovely song. Thank you ... really happy you enjoyed !

    Thanks !

  • Lovely, just like she is!!!!

  • I have to agree with you. Thanks - happy you enjoyed !!

  • I would like to comment, but I dont have words.

One of the hit parades, even beyond the milkroad.

    more than heavenly!!!

  • It is a lovely song by Miss Day -- so happy you enjoyed !!

  • Breathtaking. And more. Thank you.

  • I love her version of this song. Just beautiful. Thank you - happy you enjoyed !

  • Wonderful song.

    Day by day....

Thanks Judie very much for sent it me.

  • Because Rock was gay/bi, whichever way you look at it but I'm not gonna get into it cuz there's too much to say lol, and Doris was married..

I'm not insulting them or anything if that's what you think..I absolutely adore both of them! :]

  • Omg I love Doris Day so much. I wish her and Rock were actually together haha.

But obviously not cuz of, well, obvious reasons, from both of them! lol

This song is the reason she's called Doris Day ayee.

I just feel like it's a complete honour to even be on the same planet as this lady.

She's just absolutely wonderful and beautiful.

In a league of her own!

  • Well I agree with you -- love her music - movies - tv show - devotion to the welfare of animals. She's quite a lady !!

Actually her name came from the song Day After Day. I don't know if there is a recording of her singing that. She sang it with her first band job with Barney Rapp - he suggested the name Day because her real name Kappelhoff was too long for the marquee.

Thanks !! glad you enjoyed !

  • Yehh I know about Kappelhoff, I watched her biography yasee! You know your shizzle about Doris! xD

I envy you! haha. But yeah, thanks for this channel! You're totally awesome :] haha

  • What a delightful,melody!

  • It really is a lovely song. I'm happy you enjoyed it - Thanks !!

  • another favorite.

  • A favorite of mine too ! Happy you enjoyed !

  • BEAUTIFUL.... Doris Day has such a lovely lovely voice, thanks again for posting.

  • She definitely has one of the best voices ever. This is a great song from a great album. And Day by Night is a really wonderful album too.

    Thanks again !!

  • This is absolutely fantastic, what a nice warm voice.

  • She has one of the best voices ever. So happy you enjoyed this ! Thank you !

  • Me too - as you can tell !! lol

This is a great song - so glad you enjoyed !!

  • Either I was too young or to fixated with rock music in the 70's that I hardly gave Ms. Day a second look. After seeing her in Calamity Jane a week ago through a friend, I'm hooked and can't get enough of her effortless yet provocative voice as well as her fun movies. Thanks a lot for posting her music. Like Doris, I'm a late bloomer for this type of heart touching music but I'm now hooked for it and now a big fan of the divine Ms. Doris Day. Thanks and more power to your site.

  • I know what you mean - I was a big Doris fan when I was a little kid and of course went over to the rock side in the 70's. But - I came back to Doris ! I'm glad you've discovered her wonderful songs - she really is amazing. Welcome to the group of Day fans - there really are a lot of us out here !!

  • Viele Gruesse aus Deutschland where her family stems from - we have a large DD fan community here. Small wonder, Miss Day was and is a lovely charming person, and a wonderful singer.

    Alles Liebe zum Geburtstag, Doris!

    xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox

Dayniac: thanks a lot for posting these videos, they are fabulous ^_____^

  • Thank you -- I really enjoye making them and I'm happy you're enjoying them !

Did you get to see the new documentary ? I couldn't find a channel that was showing it in the US. I heard it was great. Thank you for your kind comment !!
