Yeah, the ad revenue that the tournament makes (in addition to all of the corporate sponsorships like the KFC SnackerCam, The degree all in moment etc..) should easily be enough to cover the administration of the tournament. Taking entry fees on top of all that is beyond excessive. It also seems to undermine the thing that makes the tournament worth watching: the huge prizepools. Not to mention players get butt-fucked enogh by the government when they win big. Why fleece them out of another 8%?

The WSOP skims PROFITS from the players entry fees above and beyond costs to run the tournament, so I've heard. Then they sell the shows to ESPN for millions under the banner of "Hey America! Look how much money's at stake! Wow!!!" The shows are only popular/profitable cause of the big money prizes - the money the PLAYERS put there themselves.

Unless they significantly raised the % of rake they take, and I don't think they did, then the rake rant really doesn't make any sense. Who cares about an 8% rake (or whatever it is), when you're a good player and your expectation in the tournament is probably 100-500% ROI? Look for video clips and/or books that include Mikey giving advice on Omaha and Omaha/8(hi-lo) ... you'll realize he's got a temper, and sometimes he's a bit "off" and overly emotional/sensitive, but DAMN he knows his stuff! I can imagine Ted Forrest and Phil Ivey be willing to sit at an Omaha/8 table with Mikey, and maybe Farha, but most other pros would pass. Holdem isn't Mikey's biggest strength.
