It is a beautiful song and a beautiful anmation, it's this anmation that made me understand the whole meaning of the song as I almost don;t understand Yiddish anymore even though I used to speak it long ago. It's very touching.

The child feels sorry for the tree blowing around in the cold weather, so tells his mother 'i will become a bird and sing it a tune during the winter'.The mother cries and tells him no because, God forbid, he might freeze.But the child insists and so his mother tries to put all of his warm clothes on him, a scarf, fur hat, galoshes so he wont freeze, but this weighs the child down. The child realises his mothers love stopped him from becoming a bird, and reconciles with her and forgets the tree.

YIDDISH is 25% percent Hebrew and Aramaic in its vocabulary.

more accurately, both Yiddish and German get the vocabulary and grammar they share from a common source-language - middle high german. one didn't evolve from the other, contrary to popular belief.

I'm a self-taught German-speaker, and can understand a lot of it. Not too amazing, considering that Yiddish is very closely-related to German and gets alot of its vocabulary and its grammatik from German.
