  • Best Kangaroo ever.

  • Dot sounds a bit like Cyndi Lauper when she sings.

  • That roo sounds just like Skippy. Do kangaroos really make that sort of noise; I've been to Australia 3 times and I've never heard them do that.

  • >that feel when 23 and reliving this for the first time since about 6 years old

    >that feel when your postmodern mind now interprets it as dot going insane

  • oh my gosh....i was born in 1990 and I've never seen this before...but I had the audio book on cassette and it had this song at the end after the story finished and i remember it SO well. Thanks so much for posting. Man the 90s kids got it good. One of my first words was 'Ornithorhynchusanatinus'

  • All I can remember about this are the Dingos and something at the very end making me cry.

  • this was my favorite movie when i was a little girl

  • How fabulous is this!!!!!!

  • How epic would that be to ride in the pouch of a Kangaroo!!!

  • I remember making the noises of the kangaroo as a kid, wishing I was a 'Roo. Im sure I tried eating roots to understand animals too ha! Oops!

  • It's not that often a talking kangaroo comes and feed you and save your life!!

  • i first watched this when i was 5 or 6 which was 7 or 8 years ago. ever since seeing it i collect kangaroos. i used to make two of my fingers jump around, and everybody was asking me what i was doing. when i told them they thought it was adorable. but if i did that now they would think im a crazy retarted creep of a 13 (14 in a month and 25 days) year old. this was always my favorite movie. it still is!!

and btw i CRIED when the kangaroo left Dot!!

and anyways, who names their kid DOT?!?!?!?!

  • @droxgirl Dot is short for Dorothy. And I remember crying so hard, and my mom trying to console me.

  • Holy crap, the memories. This was one of the first things I saw on HBO.

  • 1:08 to 1:15 crrrreepy!

  • Im kinda surprised some big studio hasnt tried to make this into a live action/CGI or 3D movie

  • @phyerboss Shhh, don't give them ideas! They've already ruined Scooby-Doo and Yogi Bear. :(

  • @MJJslilgrl Heh, seriously I think it might actually do this IP good than bad. As this generation of kids have very little than we had back in the days of childrens tales.

    ...and I thought they did "ok" with Yogi. Alot better than Scooby Doo^^;

  • @phyerboss Well, I think it depends on how you raise the kids. My sister's only four and she loves Shirley Temple and Gene Kelly, purely because I do.

And, to be honest, I haven't seen "Yogi," I always say, "if it's not broken, don't fix it." But they do, like with "Casper" and "Garfield." :(

  • hmm food of understanding? :p giving hallucinogenics to children lol kinda fucked up when you are older

  • Makes me feel like I'm 5 again!! I used to LOVE this film sooooo much !!

  • wow... I'm six years old again!

  • i am a 40 yr old man, who's very respected by colleagues, friends and family; responsible for over 110 people in a 100 million dollar operation, very good looking, very educated and intelliigent.... and I like to dance and prounce around the house in my underwear singing the "dot in the pouch" song... I know I will eventually get caught and they will put me away, as they should, because Im going to eventually murder my neighbors

  • @JessOnTheRun dude... that's... wow.

  • I loved this movie when i was a kid. For some reason it popped in my head tonight and I had to find it. Thanks for posting it!

  • you can travel by boat...

  • @JayMazz To heck with traveling by boat, I'd travel by Kangaroo anyday :D

  • Dot vs. Dora: Who would win? My money's on Dot.

  • Dear gods I love this, brings back good memories. Thanks so much for uploading all these vids Zarla!!!! and I agree, In the pouch was my most favorite song as well

  • love the music! Oh i´m so happy to see this again :)

  • You know if it was possible to ride in a Kangaroo pouch, I assume most people would probably vomit on the first time doing it.

  • @Raptormon132 That may be, but still, ould LOVE to travel that way myself :)

  • @InflatableKMH

Well, when it's possible to do that & if you're someone who doesn't suffer from severe motion sickness, go for it, mate.

  • my mom showed me this movie for the first time when we lived in juniper green scotland. and i was hooked...along with postman pat and basil brush and the last unicorn...but watching the song in this movie made me cry a bit...such fond fond memories. i miss childhood and all its magic.

  • @littlemrstiner omg i used to love the last unicorn too but this film was probably by far we just bought the dvd lol

  • thank you so much for this! The sound the kangaroo first makes took me right back to being 5/6 again. I've been looking for it on dvd but cant find it on region 2. I loved it watched it all the time!!

  • i love this now as much as i loved it when i was a child <3 happy memeries <3

  • dont mind me saying this.. but is this where all the yanks think every australian's live in the bush lol

  • lol!! I was too! I was like 4 and I would just sob and say come back kangaroo come back! my dad still makes fun of me for it and i am 31 now

  • Ahh! 0:17 - It's the Blair Witch Project!

  • I used to watch this as a kid too.. the bunnion thingy scared me lmao..how sad the ending is eh?

  • what an awesome song! lol bringing back my childhood.

  • i r scared by this movie wen i was a toddler D:

  • I loved this movie!!The end is so sad!!!!

  • I used to cry at the end too.. ah.. I miss those days =J

  • i've been looking for this movie for 3 years and i couldnt remember the name!

  • I love Dot too... I remember crying at the end of this movie. LOL I was so sad they wouldn't be together anymore. HAHA. Now at the age of 27 it's sweet nostalgia.

  • as a teenager it's so strange watching this - knowing that when i was little this was like my life, this film evoked so many emotions for me and subsequently still does today. yet, if anyone my age was flicking through the channels and thiis came up, they would probably just go to the next channel! i love dot :)

  • wen i woz little i used to wonder how some kids could b stupid enough to think ppl ride in kangaroo pouches in oz. maybe this is the reason?

  • whats that skip? dots lost in the bush! get the helicopter!

  • Oh wow brings back memories of being 7! haha

  • I remember watching this one summer hols in UK when I must have been about 6 or 7 ahh memories! bliss thanks for putting this up x

  • i am 36 years old and this is so much a part of my childhood. i still remembered after 29 or 30 years the some of the words to "ride in the pouch of a red kangaroo"

  • good choice of cut... perfect thing to end on in this bit... :) you're a genius!

  • I was just on MLIA and one of the MLIAs was an Aussie saying that while visiting China they convinced a Chinese bloke that Australian kids rode kangaroos to school. Someone commented on it saying quoting part of this song. i was like "NO WAY!! Dot and the Kangaroo!" so then came looking for it on YouTube :P

  • Haha, me too.

  • HBO rox... i watched this so many years ago... cant freekin believe i still remmber all the words!

  • haha i used to buz out on this vid as a little kid its so trippy watchin it agen nearly 20 years later!!!!

  • I don't know about you, but I'm strangely amused by this. :)

  • how long ago was this film made?

  • I live in America and I never even heard of this show...

  • Me either. I just came across this just randomly on youtube. All I know is that I would have loved this when I was 4.

  • I was waiting for this song.

  • LOL... she never finds Joey.

  • "WONDER WHERE IT LIVES????????"

  • Man I watched this in England when I was little.. I been looking for this film to show my daughter when shes older. so many happy times.. gone now!

  • Wow! Didn't realize this was a global thing. I watched this a million times here in America when I was a kid too. This one and the water babies one.

  • That's Rolf Harris as the Koala, isn't it?

  • This movie made me want to ride in a Kangaroo pouch.

  • Oh bless you luv for posting this!!!! Brings back all sorts of warm fuzzies!!

  • Lol!

i used to always laugh at the koala .. like full on laugh out loud :L

    i obviously don;t do that now .....

  • .....to know tomuch is too be miserable... thats very true in a sense

  • its like one of those movies you always remember but u just cant think of the name of it then you look it up and oh man you just have flashbacks of when you were like 5 or 6 bouncing around like a kangaroo! i love those songs they really dont make em like that anymore....no way! thnx 4 the video its awsome a true classic!

  • what a classic!

  • more then a classic its brilliant! well a brilliant classic anyway!

  • As a little kid I wanted to ride in the pouch of a kangaroo.

  • o me to!

  • oh my god!!

I used to be obsessed with this when I was 4 or 5. I used to go around the house with my mums kitchen apron on because it had a huge pocket on the front.

I used to pretend it was a pouch!!.

Geez if I done that now at 22 they'd lock me up.

  • they would!!! i did do the same and when my parents saw it they made a video and showed me it! i was so small!

  • Thank god they didnt do a video of me. I would be so embarresed if I saw it now.

  • Me too! I have a 2y/o now and i want her to see these dot films when she is 4 or 5. It is magical.

  • ye its so magical

  • @no1horselover

Why didn't you tell me this sooner, would have saved me a lot of trouble.

  • @no1horselover They don't make good shows like this anymore... sigh. Well i'm gland i'm not the only one reminiscing lol.

  • That song... man... they don't write 'em like that anymore!

    :D

  • Thank u for having this on here! It totally gave me flashbacks! Awesome!

  • Those roots that make you know too much, sounds like lsd. If you take too much LSD you know way more than you should, kills your innocence.

  • When I was a little child I always dreamt of travelling in one on those pouches : ) Good old times...

  • If the roots caused you to know too much, she should've eaten until she knew her way back home... : P

  • I love that kangaroo! =)

  • Score! I finaly found one of my early childhood shows. Now I need to find the one where these kids and their pet lizard go underground to a Lizzard world. Any help?

  • Is that the "Lost City of Ogg"? I'm thinking of a saturday morning special from like 1986 or earlier.

  • Probably not, google didn't recognize that title.

  • Yes! It's called "The Secret World of Og."

  • Thanks!

  • This is amazingly different than I remember it. I probably haven't seen it since the early eighties. Flashback time....

  • One mistake: the kangaroo speaks just before Dot eats the berries.

  • When the Simpsons go to Australia and Homer tries to climb in the kangaroo's pouch, he comments on how its full of mucus, unlike in the movies. It *had* to be a reference to this. Another might be out there somewhere, I've never seen another cartoon where humans ride in kangaroo pouches

  • Wait...wasnt there a line about the root of understanding, "don't eat too much, or you'll know too much"?

  • Ah there's the line :D Hahah weird

  • Dot sounds so cute and polite xD, i used to really love that Kangaroo

  • Poor little human.

  • I don't know about you guys, but i've never heard a kangaroo make those sounds...

  • I LOVED THIS MOVIE I FALL INSIDE MY FEELINGS! BE WEEL!! ALL OF YOU! :( sad..what a lot of memories..POR EL PASADO!

thanks you so much for uploading this

  • i am ridiculously happy hearing this song again! i haven't seen this movie in 20-odd, but i always remembered this song!

  • Meni ovaj film budi uspomene na najranije detinjstvo, zimske dane i zimski raspust, kada je televizija obavezno emitovala dugometrazne, animirane filmove.

Izliv emocija, i pokoja suza za davnim, srećnim danima.

  • You know the rate at this movie is going it's proven a fact that kids today have NO attention span. They'd hate this

  • Oh I love that song, too! I've had it in my head for a few days now. lol

  • Very catchy song =D, I couldn't remember it from the movie and now I DO!! \o/ it's so cool seeing stuff you saw as a kid again, and I love the part where the kangaroo talk gradually changes to human language, so cool, thankyou for this :)

  • I'm waiting for South Park to include the 'In the Pouch' song on a random episode. It's such a cult classic.

  • You know, that would be hilarious!

  • love it. Makes me cry when the dingo nearly gets her. But Dot helps and the kangaroo helps. I would love to be loved by a kangaroo. When she skips over the gap after the dingo what are the birds called when they shout

  • I'm 34 and am totally freaking out right now. HBO played this constantly when I was a kid. Anyone remember "The Water Babies"?. WOW! Good find!

  • "The food of understanding"... Must be hash brownies! hahahaha

  • Kangaroos were originally from Africa, ya know? That's why they click, because they are talking in African. Lol. Nah, I'm joking.

  • oh my God, I just found out where my love of redheads came from---it started when i was 5 and when I saw this film! sweet!

  • I'm 34 as well and I remember the koala with the gum leaves and the song "clickety click". Wow - brings back alot of memories.

  • wow

im 34 and i can recall watching this at 8 or 9...i liked peter njo tail and water ship down too..thanks for posting this im gonna show it to my little girl!

  • lol totally ^-^

  • oh WHOOPS i thought you meant the kookaburra clicking...

  • Do kangaroos really make that clicking noise?

  • the laughing i didn't mind, it was the clicking that scared the hell out of me

  • yes they do

  • i like voice of girl

  • dot fue la qe me enseño a amar a los animales, tengo hermosos recuerdo de esa pelicula cuando la veia una y otra vez a los 3 años! InUu(Uruguay)

  • Some Australian lady sang a cover of the "Dot in the Pouch of a Red Kangaroo" song that wasn't on the LP soundtrack, but on some other EP/LP. Does anyone know who the singer who did the cover was so I can find it in Australia? Thanks.

  • There was an LP soundtrack for this movie? Frick, now I want that.

  • I can make you an audiocassette copy of my soundtrack, which includes the songs from "Around the World with Dot".

  • That would be awesome! :O

  • Just contact me and we'll see what we can work out. ;)

  • How can I contact you?

  • Just click on my account name and send me a message through there.

  • man how did you find this? i havent seen the dot films since i was little but i still remember the save the whale song and the bunyip song "chills run down spine" whew

  • I'm sure I saw this for sale on amazon, but I can't remember if it was on DVD or VHS. I do remember it was really pricey, though!

  • save the whale, save the whale, save the whale, save the whale, come and join us if you can, hear our call throughout the land...save the whale!"

    Just a bit of nostalgia.

  • lol great memorie ^-^ you must have seen it over 1000 times

  • lol, sure have, grew up on it, have it on VHS

  • no way lucky

  • I have just bought this on DVD. I hadnt seen it for years! In The POuch is my fave song, along with Bunyip. Great film :)

  • the last time i saw this was while i was living in australia 14 years ago. it gets pretty creepy later on.

that koalas got a synth in its ass aswell.

  • It's strange how you remember seeing something ages ago but can hardly remember anything in it unitl you watch it again, at which point it's like you only just watched last week. This song was among the most memorable in the film, when it came up i just smiled! Thank you so much!

  • Very nice innocent tales that bring back happy memories.

  • Sammy Davis Jr. could talk to the animals.

  • ok you know what? this looks a lot like CD-i zelda animation!
