Read the book in high school, and saw this a few weeks ago with my sister and loved it. Although I love all of Tyler Perry's work, but this was excellent. I don't know what the hell critics were talking about. They never wanna give him any credit for what he tries to do. I saw this as a stage play and liked it but I absolutely loved the movie. I had read the poetry as a teen-ager but the interactions of the actors and actresses was so real and some events that could not be re-enacted on the stage we "lived" during the movie. (The death of the children) I lost a loved one and knew exactly what that mother was feeling. I recommended a male friend of mine take his girlfriend. He could not thank me enough. It made him re-examine his prior relationships.

@brnsilkysmooth I think Loretta Devine, Kimberly Elise and Michael Ealy will receive a lot of nominations, especially Loretta Devine because that speech she gave about "how somebody gotta away with all her stuff" was so unbelieveable and outstanding, she stole this movie from everybody else, but Michael Ealy played a alcoholic so well I was afraid at times and Kimberly Elise was just mesmerizing as Crystal. I think those 3 will get a lot of nominations and possibly Anika Noni Rose

I saw this when it was a play in San Francisco back in the late 1970's. It was absolutely great!! I am looking forward to seeing the film. I hope it stays true to the play. If the one trailer I just viewed (Ms. Devine and the plant) is any indication, then it appears Mr. Perry has stayed "true" to the play. Thank You, sir!!
