This whole first trial scene is one of the most effectively jarring and disorienting sequences in cinema history. The editing and the use of sound, to say nothing of the camera angles, is nothing short of brilliant. The abrupt shots to overreactions from the crowd, the way K is perched precariously on the stage, almost in danger of falling off, the incredible shot of the closed door - it's all genius.
I adore Tim Roth! And later I became fan of Anthony Perkins. So I was looking for Anthony Perkins in THIS movie. I typed in "The Trial" and got Tim Roth WITHOUT knowing that he played in it too. What an accident LOL. Of course I love Tony more in it but it's too hard for me to decide, now, after that happened.
HA! Story of my life. These days they don't steal your stuff. They utilize the Microwave Auditory Effect(Wiki) to sleep deprive you until you throw away your own clothes. If u tell anyone u are guaranteed to sound psychotic b/c "how are they telling you these things" "who would do such a thing" A P-doc would think he's hearing typical psychotic exceptionalism..."why do you think the Govn't is picking on you in particular?" Answer: I don't know doc, I'm not even Tea Party Bircher republican.-)

god i just finished this awful book, development is so stagnant and unreal reading through it made me suffocate like its chapters! god never read this book! i endured it only to discover its author never completed it! one of the most important and final chapters is even left unfinished!
@shecanfeel It is not a pleasant book (I had just finished it myself), but it is insightful for the fact that it portrays (among other things) the frustration and helplessness one feels while trying to decipher the meaningless or absurd customs set in society. In Joseph K.'s case, the absurdity of the justice system is exemplified, wherein certain "innocent" people, as naive about common law as they are, are persecuted and rendered helpless, while at the mercy of the system's players.
is the movie like the book?

Welles narration about the god or guard and the guy who wanted admittance to the law made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I'd bet this film was a major inspiration for Terry Gilliam. The style is very similar.

no... the book was franz kafka the trial, and it was about the jewish persecution during the era of austro hungarian empire in prague
badsign1980 1 year ago
@badsign1980 In what way did you take the novel to be about the Jews?
Tunewill 6 months ago
@badsign1980
It's not about jewish persecution, that interpretation debases the whole novel.
