I found this game for 10$ in the bargain bin and I didn't pick it up,despite me loving the previous ones. Why ? because a LOT of fighters are DLC's, not 1 or 2, the majority is. Its a no-no.

Soul calibur 4 I probably my favourite fighting game ever, the only complaint I have is how ridiculously over powered kilik is his moves are easy to pull off and the move where he runs and swings high then low is devastating, thus why everyone spams as him online :(
is this game any good i haven't played any of the soul caliber games i seen it at FYE for like 17 bucks but i didn't get it cuz i really don't know much about it and not familiar with the characters aside from Vader
I didn't dislike Soul Calibur 4. I love the Soul Series, but I truly believe that Soul Calibur 4 is the worst in the series after Soul Calibur Legends. At least to my opinion.

The combat is alright, and the character creation is epic as long as you have the patience to collect the armour, but wtf to what he said about the story? 'Short but sweet'? The most story you get in these are 2 lines at most when you beat the last boss plus a backstory that you wont really read. At the end it says something ambiguous like 'no one knows what happened after that' and the middle makes no sense, 'Astiroth is following you for some reason'
in my opinion this game was not given justice. now dnt get me wrong it is a good game but i feel it was missing those extras tht gave soul calibur 3 its magic. i like the new online feature but thts about all tht really saved it in my opinion. i dnt believe soul calibur 5 is going to be made, however if they do, they need to go back to soul calibur 3 layout because, i think more ppl enjoyed it more tht way, i may sound hateful, but they just took out the features tht made soul calibur for me.

@cosmotiggy That was the paragraph long equivalent to I think the game could have been better than what we were given.....if you do make a Soul Calibur 5 make include those features such as Character profile, wall paper, faster pace playing and stages for every character ( if you want specifics ). I don't dislike Soul Calibur 4 but it just seemed a bit plainer IMO.
@bobfttw True, Soulcalibur 3 was 'lot more fun that Soulcalibur 4. I think.. there was this kind off game mode that you could level your character in and had to take over bases and last the enemy's castle. I found that so fun to play! But now i fucken broke soul calibur 3 so cant play it anymore, still have soul calibur 4 though, but just dont like it the same i did with soulcalibur 3..
@bobfttw I agree. The fact that they linked your character stats to the clothes they were wearing in character creation definately detracted from the game. I also miss Chronicle's of the Sword. That was an awesome story mode, compared to the generic one they put into this. I liked the last one better.
Yoda's impossible to grab, litteraly, and I'm a grap whore so I dislike fighting against him, but nobody really likes him it seams so thats not usually a problem. I don't know why people don't like him either, personally I quite enjoy it, I like playing with other characters more, but I don't dislike fighting as him.
Does this suck like soul calibur 3 or is it good like soul calibur 2? SC2 was nearly perfect when it came to consistancy and timing etc, whereas 3 I felt was sluggish and inconsistant (especially with sidestepping and impacts.)and well, pretty much rubbish for folks who like to master fighting games; more aligned to button mashers and folks who like the hoaky build your own character thing... . Did they tighten up the combat is my question essentially.?

I disagree. This game was really disappointing. Unless you're an item collector, and REALLY want to get al the armor pices, and wepons, after only 2 weeks you may get bored of this game. Because the online gaming just NOT fills the emptiness that left the "Chronicles of the Sword" mode, and the epic adverture the story mode was in SCIII.

This game bored the soul out of the game. Very short and the challenges on towers was nearly impossible at times, frustated most of the time. I love how they talk about the looks and visuals but the gameplay was trashed a little and star wars... Cmon, the apprentice was harder to kill than the final boss. Soul blade and sc3 will always be m favs

This should have had Tales of Souls like SC3 SO YOU CAN choose your path and has about 25 stages only takes a half an hour NOT 10 MINUTES like this game.

You do know that Soul Calibur is a game that has remained virtually unchanged from its 1990s arcade game, right?
You're probably a little 10 year old kid that doesn't have the patience to learn how to play the game correctly so you simply mash buttons, lose, and call the game gay. I actually find its ability to stay the same (gameplay-wise) but still be so captivating and fun to play.
For newbies it's "the same", but for people that actually took the time to learn the game, the engine is vastly different and much had been added to the game since the first one.
beautiful game grapihcally....as a game its full of terrible voice overs, limited char selection as opposed to previous version, horrible single player. And for a fighting game just doesn't have alot of depth.
You have no idea what depth is, much less the ability to actually critique a fighting game properly. Please actually learn about the game before bashing it for the "depth" you have no clue on.
Compared to SC III's character creation, SC IV's is really limited. In SC III, you could could have more than one upper or lower clothing on, like say...a brasserie, a shirt, and a quiver. But you can't do that in SC IV. The extra weapons like the kunai weren't kept, either.
I played the demo and thought is was cool but I don't really remember. I remember though that the combat in this game was slower than Soul Calibur 3 and I thought that 3 had better combat because it was a lot faster.

I love this game but there are 3 things that really piss me off.
1) The story mode along with the endings, they're no worthy and the endings are really bad.
2) No more team battle, I love team battle back there in SC2
3) The fact of beating the "unknown conditions" to get the articles for custom character in the tower of Soul is anoying, it will take you a lot of time before you could work the character you really want :(
i got it its preety easy i beat it on normal and hard. i like multiplayer. not live because theres 2 many nerds. i still dont know how to do he critical special attack thing yet. i recomend it
if your playing the latest version(after updates) it is really rare(almost impossible) to be able to use it in a real battle since the rate at which de soul gauge decreases now is really slow...
but for you to use the critical finish you must press all the four buttons at once when you see a RED guard break, the RED guard break only occurus if the opponentes soul gauge is red and blinking, if you hit him with any attack after the RED guard break the chance is lost... try it in the pratice mode!

You do know that Soul Calibur is a game that has remained virtually unchanged from its 1990s arcade game, right?
You're probably a little 10 year old kid that doesn't have the patience to learn how to play the game correctly so you simply mash buttons, lose, and call the game gay. I actually find its ability to stay the same (gameplay-wise) but still be so captivating and fun to play.

For newbies it's "the same", but for people that actually took the time to learn the game, the engine is vastly different and much had been added to the game since the first one.

beautiful game grapihcally....as a game its full of terrible voice overs, limited char selection as opposed to previous version, horrible single player. And for a fighting game just doesn't have alot of depth.

Compared to SC III's character creation, SC IV's is really limited. In SC III, you could could have more than one upper or lower clothing on, like say...a brasserie, a shirt, and a quiver. But you can't do that in SC IV. The extra weapons like the kunai weren't kept, either.

Soul Calubur IV
I have Tekken 6, and I love it. But Soulcalibur has less mistakes, glitches, and Repetive attitude.
And more fun story and customization!!!

I played the demo and thought is was cool but I don't really remember. I remember though that the combat in this game was slower than Soul Calibur 3 and I thought that 3 had better combat because it was a lot faster.

your voice is pretty sweet, but it didnt distract me during the review. i really want to get this game, but i dont have xbox live. i might get both soon, and soul calibur looks like a fun game online and offline

I love this game but there are 3 things that really piss me off.
1) The story mode along with the endings, they're no worthy and the endings are really bad.
2) No more team battle, I love team battle back there in SC2
3) The fact of beating the "unknown conditions" to get the articles for custom character in the tower of Soul is anoying, it will take you a lot of time before you could work the character you really want :(
All the rest is great. :D

i got it its preety easy i beat it on normal and hard. i like multiplayer. not live because theres 2 many nerds. i still dont know how to do he critical special attack thing yet. i recomend it

if your playing the latest version(after updates) it is really rare(almost impossible) to be able to use it in a real battle since the rate at which de soul gauge decreases now is really slow...
but for you to use the critical finish you must press all the four buttons at once when you see a RED guard break, the RED guard break only occurus if the opponentes soul gauge is red and blinking, if you hit him with any attack after the RED guard break the chance is lost... try it in the pratice mode!
