Hi i was wondering if u could help me, I need to know how to sync a TB303 with a TR909 using "Deopfer MSY2" (using din sync leads) at the moment i have it setup like this...TR909 midi Sync In to--- MSY2 Sync, TB303 Sync In to---MSy2 2nd available Sync, midi out from PC (usingCubase Essential5) to--- MSY2 Midi In...
I cant seem to have the tr909 & tb303 to stay in tempo sync, 1 or both the tb303 & tr909 keeps gradually fading out of sync, is anyone familiar with this kind of issue?
I estimate that these would cost Roland no more than £250 to build, maybe less. I can't think of many synths or drum machines that haven't had a roland emulation built in since the late 80s. Demand for these products gets greater every year so why don't they see sense and remake them using analogue components? I suspect its because their new stuff would stop selling. Can you imagine the waiting list for a new Tr909 at £500 or even £1000? At least us ordinary folk could get a s/h one cheaper.
so when u go to an instrument you can manually program when you want it to play or you can hit it in the sequence you want it to play and the 909 adds that in?
you did it with the ride and hi hats in the end of the video
You must connect the MIDI OUT of the Virus into the MIDI IN of the 909. Then there should be a octave on ur Virus keyboard which will trigger the sounds of the 909. Also don't forget to put the midi channels the same on both machines.
You can set on the 909 midi channels for both Receive and Send. After you start up the 909 you press SHIFT + SHUFFLE/FLAM button to set the Receive midi channel & SHIFT + LAST STEP button to set the Sending midi channel. If you want to use the Virus for triggering the 909 then setting the receive channel to the appropriate midi channel would be enough.
even if these gadgets were invented in the early & mid 80's....i thank the japanese for doing so. they are old but i love rolands. i am working with a 606 and i love it. i am bidding on a 707 right now on eBay and i would like to get the "bassqueen"...the 808. but prices are too high for me right now. but one day it will be mine. it's hard to find 808's in germany though...really like your videos on roland composers
Thank you Sir!

@Filthdrive
Start putting outputs to inputs. instead of inputs to inputs, which never make sense.
so for a instance. 909 midi-out > [MSY2 midi-in > MSY2 Sync-out] > TB303 Sync-in.
Make sure the all the five pins are connected internal within the sync/midi-cable

we should make a petition for making Roland begin to produce again 909-808-303

@MrLokification Sure we do. Including 40$ participation each, as proof of our need to get back TRs & TBs !

@maccagrabme the past is the past for a reason. I can't imagine how incredibly hard it would be to source parts for a 25-year old machine

Hi,
I'm trying to get my 909 sync with MIDI. I have a Virus TI connected with USB. Now, should I connect MIDI IN from 909 -> MIDI OUT to the Virus?
The manual is a little confusing, yes. I want to be able to use the keys on the synth to play the 909.

Thanks for answering.
So, I start up the 909, then:
1) Go to track play mode
2) Set MIDI chanel
3) shift+tempo button to sync to MIDI
4) Go to pattern write mode
5) shift+external key
Is this correct?

im hoping to save up some money and get a 909 with a S3000 sampler... this will come in really handy...
Question- i can use the 909 as my main sequencer using the midi in and out on the 909 right??? to maybe have it play a sampler or a synth using midi??
Jazzybreaks 3 years ago
you can play external midi gear from the 909 but only 16 notes on a single channel
