Folks, there are a couple of other contests (at least, I've found 2 more) going on, ending in February.

I've entered one, the other is taking some more thought (it's a harder backing track!), but I'll probably have a go.

@ljdsam You should give it a go. You can use something else as your backing track. Take a small piece of classical music and shred over it. Or take an electronica type song and shred to it. Where there is a will there is a way my friend. Dont give up

Im moving tonight. And have to hope the internet is turned on, at the new place, by Feb 10 so I can enter the "New Years Shred Off 2012". But Im just polishing it up getting ready to record it over the next few days.

@ljdsam Yeah in a pinch, for a backing track, all you have to do is record a few minutes of an instrumental background music, from any movie. You can find Dance and electronica fairly frequently. Classical music and metal in horror movies. Even Jazz. And you only need a minute or two. Just give credit.

This dawned on me, as I practise while watching movies, and jam to whatever is going on in the movie lol

@ljdsam You can download backing tracks from guitar backing track (DotCom) for free ;) Search under jam tracks for standards like 12 bar and common progressions in virtually all styles.

Every entry should have at least 312 views, due to there being 312 entries(though I think there was a 313th entry that was added right at the end....though I could be wrong,plusthere were a few guys who missed the deadline but still posted videos lol). But I would hope every contestant would take the time, to watch and support each and every other entry. Music brings people from around the world together. Lets respect and honor that fact. Happy New Year guys, better late than never :) Good luck to all of you, I really enjoyed this one and have watched every single entry, some awesome players out there as usual and interesting to see all the different angles on the same backing track. Registering on the Siam guitar website is easy. Dont let the Thai language throw you off, there is English for the most important and required parts. First page, top right corner, there is a tab that says the word "Register" lol. I believe the tab itself is grey. Click on it. Than the Registration page is pulled up. Fill in the info, just like you were opening a new Yahoo email account. Than I believe it sends an email for account verification.

This is what I did with two different acount names. I didn't receive a verification email and couldn't login with the data I put in before. Unfortunately GOOGLE Translator couldn't translate the Thai side. But the main thing was to get the solo done. I'm quite satisfied (although I know I'm not tight in some parts).

Im blown away by everyone. Thanks for the honor. Im especialy impressed with the guitar players from Thailand, where all most every entry was top notch. Very mature playing and there seems to be an awareness to avoid over shredding, which is what really got my attention. And all the Thai guitar players had a really good sense of Tone. Again thank you. Ive learned alot

Merry Christmas to all contestants and good luck. I have a few recommendations for the judges as follows :

1) eliminate anyone sitting down (that’s no way to play an electric guitar sir!)

2) eliminate anyone who does not make at least 3 basic mistakes. ( It is not humanly possible to play all the way through with no errors, so they must have used overdubs)

3) eliminate anyone who uses ‘tapping’ (might come in useful on your honeymoon but has no place on a fret board – In my day guitarists didn’t muck about like that, they simply got on with it!)

4) eliminate anyone who touches their nose before touching the sacred fret board ( I’m afraid that includes you Sir Vinai, 0:16 )

and finally if that does not mean I win, then eliminate anyone under 50 and anyone over 50 that seems to know what they are doing. Thank you for your kind consideration.

@highintel From what I understand, to win the contest and be placed within the top 10, is based on the two judges. But there is an 11th prize, which is given to whomever recieves the most votes. I think its some type of overdrive pedal

SNTorquemado, for its originality in melody to include midi guitar and with great feeling and phrases with fast passages Jazzis.

Yiannis P, because Tone, smoothness, a huge vocab of effective licks.

Kenny S, because I like his Satchy phrasing and intelligent lines.

Brian A, because his take fit the backing track the best. Great melody, great dynamics, one of those players you know can rip your face off but doesn't.

Or, Nuttawut J, for just some really awesome fluid and interesting stuff. A very Masterful player.

@guitarholy As far as I can work it out, there's only one prize that depends on votes, the rest are the judges.

And those who are pro's/semi pro's will have their own websites, fans etc, and you can take it as read that one of them will win THAT prize - just look at how the views for some just skyrocket as soon as they appear.

Don't sweat it, there's no point in entering these contest just to win stuff.
