  • greatest

  • GWB lookalike for sure, only in reverse.

  • Que c'est bon...

  • reminds me of I love lucy :)

  • One of my early favourites the finger picking rolls in this are fantastic

  • E-gads. I hope he don't favor him.

  • Lead, rhythm, and bass all at once, live, by one guy one one guitar. I started playing guitar because of Chet Atkins.

  • That is a Gibson Country Gentleman. I own a 2004. I've owned an older Gretsch, but the Gibson model plays a lot smoother to me. You can see mine on my video Ode to Chet by Jim Barnes

  • Nice.

  • Chet's notes just float out there, such amazing phrasing and technique, used to such amazing effect.

  • Gibson headstock plain as day..... stop talking about it and enjoy.

  • Both He & Paul are playing GIBSON'S......!

  • The Greatest Guitarist Ever. Period. No one will ever eclipse him.

  • butter

  • Excellent arrangement! It IS a Gibson. Chet switched from Gretsch as their quality languished after they sold the company to Baldwin. Chet started playing Gibson guitars around 1980. They even made a limited edition Super 400 model called Super 4000 or something like that in the mid 1990's. They sold for around $40,000. The estate of Chet Atkins recently went back to endorsing Gretsch guitars again as the company is now owned by one of the Gretsch family members once again.

  • very good.i lov guitar music vith chet atkins.

  • try playing this you single string pickers chet is a genius at work

  • wow. Chet is so amazing. I saw him tapping (very tastefully obviously) on one of these videos and it just made me think "I guess there is nothing new under the sun"

What command over the neck. That's what I want!

  • Chet was just so unbelievably gifted. I've been listening to him for 6 years now and I just never get bored with learning his songs and listening to them.

  • @Formlessexpressions i have been listening to chet since 1960 and i still cant believe what i hear or play anything near as good as he did

  • This track blew me away 49 years ago and still sounds as good played live by Chet i still cant play it like him who can!

  • WHo can....Roy Clark....bout the only one.

  • He kinda looks like george W. bush. I'm just sayin :)

  • Yeah he does - if only George bush could play gutair this well, maybe we wouldn't be spiralling towards oblivion now...

  • haha i thought the same^^

  • @lucrhodes1 In all fairness... George W looks like him :) Besides, W never did anything original.

  • I can't watch this video enough. The way Chet plays this is just as fine as the actual song. Chet was such a great human being.

  • I like this guy because he's no too COUNTRY, like I hate country...but this guy makes okay!

  • in the late 50's a gibson or a gretch costs round 200$...good times

  • i think it was even less. cuz i know a guy who bought a martin 00 for 50 bucks in the 60s. brand new. and it was a pretty okay one for the time. probably shoot for 1000 if it was brand new today.

  • yeah and 200 back then is like 2000 now.

  • TO THE NIGHT THAT GLOWS IN!

  • i have seen all these chet videos 1000 times, and will see then 1000 more, and even will not be tired of them

  • garmasan: I know exactly how you feel! I also feel that way about all of the videos with Jerry Reed as well as the videos of Brad Paisley, Brent Mason and quite a few others!

  • what is wrong with your voice?

  • a master !

  • The mixed tone of the Gibson country gentleman is sweet actually.

    I love.

  • Ah, that would be the "Gretch" country Gentleman

  • doing answer being.

It is possible to hear the good distortion of the tube amplifier really and I am glad about it. Chet's man can be visited.

    YanDell, too, is the best.

  • THANK YOU!!

  • My God and now Jerry Reed is gone too. What is happening to our country's legends. I can see Chet and Jerry now though settin' around some cosmic campfire somewhere pickin' while Marty Robbins sings. There's a show I would pay to see.

  • @shortynshoni, super comment. god bless.

  • Beautiful,i love Chester's style.

  • A master....inspiring.

  • quanta alma e sentimente tem esse guitarista. Como eu o amo e o admiro!!!!!!

  • It still hits the spot ! Wonderful arrangement and execution !

  • could someone do his version of the glow worm please?

  • there's his classic gibson

    wow!

I've seen pictures, but i never saw him play it,

when i look him up, it will usually show his collection of Gretsch's

  • whats the title of this piece ? is it" half moon". ? kinda glow worm band beat?..

  • The title is simply "The Glow Worm", known also to be covered by The Mills Brothers (#1 hit in 50's) and arranged(?) by Paul Lincke, I think its from a even older German piece "Gluwurmchen" before comming to english speaking artists.

  • Great playing!

  • Just checked out los indios tabajaras. Typical spanish sound. Well played but nothing chet couldnt and didnt do. But then again I havent seen a style chet didnt play to perfection.

  • Great guitar player...for american taste. In this style of music, Los Indios Tabajaras were much better!!! A lot....

  • That axe just happens to be a Les Paul design. Please note only one pick-up, and that cool F-Hole...

  • His arpeggiations are still causin' a sensation!

  • Actually a Gretsch (Country Gentleman model, I think), not a Gibson, but understandable mistake. Nice vid thanks for posting.

  • My bad, I didn't know about the CG copy Gibson started making around 1986-87 <opens mouth inserts foot> Learn something new every day. Some faithful looking copy of the old Gretsch.

  • Actually it is A GIBSON Country Gentlemen model. Chet played Gibsons in the 80's and 90's. He was with Gretsch from 1955-1980.

  • Yeah as you can see by my own reply (to myself lol) I figured this out, probably while you were typing your reply to me. Like I said, my bad.

I actually had the opportunity to see the man play live in the late 80's. Inspiring. He did this thing where he did tapping like Eddie Van Halen for just a bit and it was funny as hell.

  • There's a video on Youtube of Chet Atkins playing "Orange Blossom special" where he does EVH-style tapping.

  • There is one on here as well with him and Jerry Reed. Chet does some sweep picking. Awesome stuff.

  • it's not sweep picking, it'a an arpeggiated roll.

  • a.k.a "sweep picking" - folks were sweep pickin' way before these shred stars

  • Comment removed

  • Deejthemyth,

Watch/listen closely at about 2:12, after his first run of finger rolls.

  • @muzikman74 SHOT DOWN!!!

  • @muzikman74 Man until I did some extensive research I was about to call you a liar! This thing looked for the world like a Gretch with a Gibson headstalk! I did finally dig one up. They were made from 87-05. It is one beautiful guitar for sure. Thanks for setting the record straight!

  • youre making a mistake ^^ it is really a gibson. but this is the country gentleman sunrise oragne gibson version of the gretsch you are talking about

  • Thanks. For straightening me out. Again.

  • ahha excellent. i love the Atkins style

  • thanx very much for this video :)
