I love this performance, and I remember it t like it was yesterday! The Apollo audience showed her sooo much love. I know that made hu er feel so much better because she had to be nervous. One thing about the Apollo audience was they were tough as nails, but if you could bring it, and you had real talent; they won't get enough of you. Great training ground for new and aspiring artists.

She also sang "You Can't Deny It" on the same show. Now, can you imagine how astonishing and astounding it would have been, to see/hear Lisa and Teena do a duet? The most authentic white R&B artist in the U.K. (though some might say Jay Kay of Jamiroquai, and they might have a point), and the most authentic white R&B artist PERIOD? With the 2 of them and their voices, I would have bought that record. It makes me sad to think of such possibilities as this that we will never see.

What better gauge than an unforgiving audience? I was in my mid 20's then and used to love the Apollo. Remember, this is the same audience that booed Lauren Hill. I never saw Lisa's performance until You Tube. She seems to have gotten the same response at The Apollo that Stevie Wonder got when he did "Fingertips" and that says alot. She mush have been gushing when she leftthe stage thannight.

I'm a BRIT, and I can only tell you what I personally remember. This song, from what I remember as a little child, hit the UK chart around the same time as the Berlin Wall coming down, which was Nov '89.

I have to agree with you about Teena Marie, what a voice!!! One of the innovators in R & B. Her music was unique and way ahead of her time.
