@faithsalon72 totally worth it. trust me. the first months are the HARDEST. keep your harmonica always in your pocket and experiment whenever you can.
been playin for a few months now and after watchin this i will of had my first lesson. when i picked it up i thort it was just a case of blowin' but ive taught my self a few things and im pickin it up as a go along, lets see if your video can help me get the basics sorted out. :)
You rock bro. You're the reason why I got really interested in harmonica. Your videos really helped a lot. I wish I could play just like you do someday.
I came here to learn how to play notes, a simple tune or anything but actually you covered so much of the more important stuff brilliantly. Tonality and note quality is something often forgotten but if you get it right on lesson 1 (video above) then you never need worry about it again. I never even thought about the guitar analogy but again, the science behind it is spot on. Thank you. About to go through your other vids. :)
Caught your awesome show at Telluride last fall. Jason, the way you rocked at that altitude, you must have some super human lungs. Now, influenced by you and Mr. Mel Melton, I am learning to play blues harp. Thanks for sharing the techniques behind the magic and your anguish in "Broken Toy." You are an amazing talent!
I play guitar since I was fifteen, now that I'm almost twenty-three I felt the urge to discover new sounds and I found on a shelf an old arrow C harmonica... I tried to play it and in order to find some inspiration I searched the web for some lessons and I found this GREAT video! By the way, me and my friends really liked "Done With The Devil"! That overdriven harmonica sounds adds a more passionate mood to the songs... Cheers from Italy! Rock on, man! :-)
if im playing a 12 bar blues in g the i ,iv, and v, will be g ,c and d rigth but in single note playin can i use others nothes beside the notes correspondin to g c and d that will be 3blow 4 blow etc... can i put some other single notes and how???
I feel like so much of the time people look up tutorials or something like that, and even though they don't always explain much, they get really insppired to learn more which helps even more.
great vid has inspired me. A am prob an intermediate guitar player and I'm looking at learning the harp to go along with it. I play alot of acoustic blues stuff mostly in E. Should I go for a harp in the key of E or dgo for something known as "cross-harp" and get one in A. I'm a bit confused...........any help/ideas anyone?
the only problem I have with Jason is that's he's so damn good it's discouraging, that and the weird hair. Adam is much more my speed for learning from, he don't play whammer jammer much better than I do.

Hi Jason, Can you do a video talking more about how to actually breath from the diaphram? I got a lesson from Micheal Peloquin and he taught me how. I think a lot of players need more tone and they just don't understand. I would do it but players will listen to you. Oh yah, we are buddys on Myspace.
Hi Jason, Saw you in the Mezz, Breda, the Netherlands, 2 days ago and just wanted to say that you... ROCK DUDE !!! Great show, great sound!!! YOU ROCK !!!
Hey, Jason I was very disappointed to miss you in Vancouver. I'm sure you heard about our big rock slide and the closed highway, eh? Just couldn't get there, alas. Here's a question that everyone wants to ask but it's embarassing- How the hell do you keep your lips wet and your reeds dry? For that matter, I watch you and Christelle and JP Allen and I never see you guys lick your lips, yet I read "keep them wet for smooth sliding." Too dumb to respond to?
Sorry I've been busy sometimes I actually will wet the harp...but I think more or less after time you just get use to developing some kind of subconcious lubrication system...It's actually a great question becuase i'm afraid i don't really have an answer. The reeds STILL get stuck often(With Me)especially when I'm playing too hard from spit ...Playing softer and relaxing will give you just as much volume and more control less spit in the reeds and I THINK(Not Sure)more lubrication or less need
why does my harmonica doesnt sound like that i just bought it and bought anything well my harmonica says c where you blow i dont know if it means anything but well can anyone help?? [: thanks
That is very touching! I have nothing to say back but thanks for pulling me out of my little selfish world and letting me hear this! Tell that boy all the tone comes from inside and hand vibrato is for old timers and cowboys!
This is great =D everywhere i look on harmonica practise. I can only find songs, like jingle bells. But some breath practise is great! Thanks for Putting this up!! :)
Thank you so much Jason. I am a women 58 old living in Switzerland AND NO MORE ABLE TO HAVE A JOB BECAUSE OF SICKNESS but now I will realise my dream as I see I have time. One week ago I bought C D and G blues harps and since I exercize each day and look at the Net. I missed lesson for breathing now I found it by you. My mothertongue is not english so sorry for mistakes. I subscribed your lessons. Please have you any good type for me? I have not enough words to give you sincere compliments. chSt
Thank you so much your english is just fine! Comments like yours and lives like yours are the reasons I make these videos. Keep watching and keep writing...I will do my best to answer any questions you might have.
Hey, I write for a living. Grammatically, your construction is better than 80 percent of English speakers. By the way, I've been in your Zurich hometown a few times. I rank it as the No. 1 most beautiful city on earth. I will never forget the train ride along the lake. I used to ride to Zurich from Salzburg just for that view. Picturing it now, blue, grey and white mountains reflecting onto the blue water... very beautiful.
Amazing! Thank you! It will be a great pleasure for me to meet you here in Zurich the next time you will come: you can send me a mail via youtube before. ;) we have already 2 thinks to share!!! Best regards.

so draw 2 means your on the second hole breathing in.
am i right or do i got it all wrong.
can someone pls explain me all these terms i am new with the harmonica.
overblow?
2 draw?
I really would apreciate it if someone can give me a link of a site with explanations and hints about the harmonica.

Yes; but as you can hear the music it's becoming someting repetitive: same scales, same rythms...
can't create something new with all those "theory" restrictions.
In my damn opinion. I just LISTEN, not think; cause music it's 'bout that.

Thanks for all your cool videos

Were you like 10 years old when you made this?
You were awesome then, but I can tell a definite addition of smoothness over the years.

Hmmm..
Maybe you should address this, Jason.
You could be remembered as the guy
who forever changed the world of harping.
Maybe work with a manufacturer to develop
teflon-coated cover plates.
Or Ricci snap-on cover plate covers,
something like those iPod skins.
Or how about Ricci Lip Glide,
a sort of hybrid lip gloss/personal lubricant...

Jason, hi
When my son decided to try the harp I instantly thought of you. So hopefully you'll be teaching him stuff that he'll enjoy for ever.
He's quadriplegic, so he'll be using a neck-style holder rather than his hands.
Just wanted to let you know that you're banking good karma!
And to say thank you.

That is very touching! I have nothing to say back but thanks for pulling me out of my little selfish world and letting me hear this! Tell that boy all the tone comes from inside and hand vibrato is for old timers and cowboys!
