Dog food is mostly made out of corn, the number one ingredient. Dogs are not vegetarians, they are carnivores. If this dog had been eating meat mostly, maybe it wouldn't need a banana now. Read the ingredients on your dog food bag!

In my experience, sprinkling a bit of cream of tartar on the dog's food will end this behaviour. It has no unpleasant taste when the dog eats it the first time, however it gives feces a very bitter taste which dogs will not eat.

@brulldozer = I wouldn't feed grapes or raisins (or anything related), same with onions, garlic etc. Grapes can cause kidney failure in dogs. If you are going to feed human food to dogs, you should check with a Vet or at least google it. There is quite a few things dog shouldn't have.

I think that if anyone wants to be good at anything, you have to have experience of your own to do it. You can't email your friends on the computer if you don't even know how to turn it on. You can't truly help a child with mental problems unless you have experienced similar situations like the child. You sure as hell can't walk unless you learn to crawl first. No certificate or diploma is going to change that.You learn from experience, not from books or pieces of paper with documentation.
@Crejaksiaan4ever I'm not saying school is useless, it is just that you can't know a whole lot from just reading a book. You also have to do it yourself to understand it. I mean, just because somebody has seen everything, doesn't mean they understand it. Books are a start, but hands-on is also necessary to do anything right.

I was told that if you put pineapple into the dogs food they wont eat the poop cause it doesnt taste good to them when it comes out. but its so nice to see an explanation as the why the dog would want to eat its poopy in the first place
@wolf101085: I learned this in school,so what I say comes from a high educated source,in my books, I have a part about what food is good for dogs,many people forget that a dog is domesticated and isn't a wolf anymore,so because he is domesticated,he doesn't eat and need only meat as a meal,when dogs were wild, they went to people for food, but they didn't always have meat for them so they gave them fruits vegetables grains.
So the body of the dog developed the need for vegies etc... just a tip;)
It's nice to see Cesar touch on cravings and how they are related to missing minerals. This is scientific fact with humans, and I know the same rule applies to dogs. Nicely done once again Cesar!

@TVSheShe Notice how you automatically made an assumption that to face a fear means to overstimulate the person with the fear. You have to take it step by step and build an immunity to the fear. Example: a baby will be more succesptible to illness early on. You also used harsh diction and extreme examples which show a sign that you are subconciously afraid that your arguement is less than substantial (which it is) so you reverted to emotional appeal, the easiest and cheapest of arguement types.

im going to get a german shepherd dog as a pup of 8-10 weeks old, is there anyone who can give me sum info on what the dog will be like to handle etc I have all the time in the world so im going to use it all with my new pup when i get it-that means walking and running and cycling with the dog calmly going along with me and NOT trying to pull to 1 side?
Heads up, this video should be something you pay very close attention to! I have a German Sheppard and she's all about eating her "poop"! And I've had other German Sheppards before in the past, and they always like eating their poop! Hope this helps! Also, expect high energy, where they feel like they don't know what to do with themselves, so the pikcing and stuff should be awesome!

@SkillzManiac i often comment on the critics. asking 2 post their vids but they never do bc they dont have any. and from my experience the ones that usually bash on his methods are basic dog trainers that are equipped and experienced to deal with dogs that do not have severe behavioral problems n lack basic commands and simple training. they often fail to understand the difference. It may be a better than poo, but it is also an alternative to the dogs regular food! Cesar is providing advice which he is not qualified to provide. He should have at least recommended testing by a DVM, however this was still one of his better episodes. In the actual episode, he was a bit ruff in a grooming segment, but he did advise owners not to get physical with their dogs. Good, solid advice. I am not a hater, but I do object to control thru punishment. I prefer teaching whenever possible.
I'll bet your dog would also choose a big serving of cake and ice cream over poop as well. Maybe you should check with a licensed DVM instead of just listening to what some TV guy says.
Whether bananas are good for not, Cesar should not be giving out medical or nutritional advice. He is not qualified to do so. At least he should advise people to check with a DVM instead of pretending the dog told him.

Who has he proven this to? Certainly not the SCPA, American Humane, CPDT, AVSAB or any other professional organizations. Most of the professional organizations around the world will not accept Cesar as a member. He is only a doggy hairdresser, and from what I've seem him do in that regard, I wouldn't let him near my dog. Watching Cesar for dog training info is like the police watching batman for law enforcement tips. Its just a TV show, nothing more.
Ive read a lot of books on dogs and dog training. As much as you hate the man and deny his work, he DOES know what he is doing. Maybe if you educate yourself on dog behavior and how they think, you'd see.
Modern research says you are wrong. Perhaps if you read a little peer reviewed science, like google sciencedaily dominance pack leader and read the abstracts. That is just an intro to the subject material. You can find out what his peers are saying at urbandawgs com or compare results. Can Cesar do as well as an amateur using positive training like utube user justjesse197. Cesar uses fear and physical force to inhibit behavior. He does not teach the dog how to behave, he reinforces their fear.
In this short clip he isn't scaring the dog, but he provides medical/nutritional advice which he is not qualified to to. If he had mentioned a vet check, it would have been much better, although it was still one of his better episodes. I don't hate Cesar. I look at what my experience tells me, what professionals are saying and compare the results of positive trainers. Cesars methods are inferior. He doesn't seem to understand behavior modification techniques, or if he does he seldom uses them.
@naisayd He does not induce fear and he never hits the dog he matches the aggression of the dog and grabs at it I play rougher with my dog than he does when he corrects an aggressive dog. I have seen negative enforcement trainers and he is not like that. The dogs never loook afraid they look happy when he corrects them and they can relax and actually live with people rather than be put down.

eating feces is usually due to a horrible diet. 85% of commercial food causes malnutrition. causes cancer, tumors, skin problems, and even behavioral problems. Vets recommend science diet and iams because they are paid to by the companies. when your dog develops these issues they make money on treating them. If you care about your dog at all stay away from this garbage and feed them rice, meat, beans, dark leafy greens, eggs..ect

I love Cesar Milan's technique but Victoria Stillwell made solving this problem easier. All you have to do is feed your dog pineapple. Cause the pineapple takes away the smell dogs find tasty.

There are only two dogs he's never been able to cure.
One was brain damaged, and the other was trained to attack and kill people by going for their neck. The dog had been raised it's whole life to attack and kill anyone, and he just couldn't gain it's trust.
I thought it went, He was picked up off the streets by a guy who the dog trusted. Cesar gained his trust after a while, but no one else could and he lives with the guy who originally found him? Thats what my copy of the book said anyway. XD
Either way, the dog cannot be called rehabilitated because it can't function in society.

@wolf101085: I learned this in school,so what I say comes from a high educated source,in my books, I have a part about what food is good for dogs,many people forget that a dog is domesticated and isn't a wolf anymore,so because he is domesticated,he doesn't eat and need only meat as a meal,when dogs were wild, they went to people for food, but they didn't always have meat for them so they gave them fruits vegetables grains.
So the body of the dog developed the need for vegies etc... just a tip;)

I think the reason some dogs do this is because KIBBLE IS JUNK FOOD and the dog still smells and/or tastes something it needs/wants.
Feed RAW meat, NO veggies or fruit or grains, just meat and bones RAW.

I was afraid of spiders and didn't want to be so I bought a tarantula, held it several times a day and now I have 20 of them. They are great! So, yeah, desensitizing can work. @TVSheShe Notice how you automatically made an assumption that to face a fear means to overstimulate the person with the fear. You have to take it step by step and build an immunity to the fear. Example: a baby will be more succesptible to illness early on. You also used harsh diction and extreme examples which show a sign that you are subconciously afraid that your arguement is less than substantial (which it is) so you reverted to emotional appeal, the easiest and cheapest of arguement types.

Generally speaking you only eat what you need, what gives you pleasure or relieves tension/stress/frustation (that is some kind of pleasure).

Animals eat some types of rocks for salt, iodine, etc. Chewing on something made of refined mineral doesn't work cause the body works with composites not pure elements. Heads up, this video should be something you pay very close attention to! I have a German Sheppard and she's all about eating her "poop"! And I've had other German Sheppards before in the past, and they always like eating their poop! Hope this helps! Also, expect high energy, where they feel like they don't know what to do with themselves, so the pikcing and stuff should be awesome!

@SkillzManiac i often comment on the critics. asking 2 post their vids but they never do bc they dont have any. and from my experience the ones that usually bash on his methods are basic dog trainers that are equipped and experienced to deal with dogs that do not have severe behavioral problems n lack basic commands and simple training. they often fail to understand the difference. Truth is that CM would probably use similiar methods as the critics if he was dealing with a basic non severe dog

It may be a better than poo, but it is also an alternative to the dogs regular food! Cesar is providing advice which he is not qualified to provide. He should have at least recommended testing by a DVM, however this was still one of his better episodes. In the actual episode, he was a bit ruff in a grooming segment, but he did advise owners not to get physical with their dogs. Good, solid advice. I am not a hater, but I do object to control thru punishment. I prefer teaching whenever possible.

Whether bananas are good for not, Cesar should not be giving out medical or nutritional advice. He is not qualified to do so. At least he should advise people to check with a DVM instead of pretending the dog told him.
If you were sick and/or needed medical attention would you call a TV star or a real doctor?

Who has he proven this to? Certainly not the SCPA, American Humane, CPDT, AVSAB or any other professional organizations. Most of the professional organizations around the world will not accept Cesar as a member. He is only a doggy hairdresser, and from what I've seem him do in that regard, I wouldn't let him near my dog. Watching Cesar for dog training info is like the police watching batman for law enforcement tips. Its just a TV show, nothing more.

Modern research says you are wrong. Perhaps if you read a little peer reviewed science, like google sciencedaily dominance pack leader and read the abstracts. That is just an intro to the subject material. You can find out what his peers are saying at urbandawgs com or compare results. Can Cesar do as well as an amateur using positive training like utube user justjesse197. Cesar uses fear and physical force to inhibit behavior. He does not teach the dog how to behave, he reinforces their fear.

In this short clip he isn't scaring the dog, but he provides medical/nutritional advice which he is not qualified to to. If he had mentioned a vet check, it would have been much better, although it was still one of his better episodes. I don't hate Cesar. I look at what my experience tells me, what professionals are saying and compare the results of positive trainers. Cesars methods are inferior. He doesn't seem to understand behavior modification techniques, or if he does he seldom uses them.

@naisayd He does not induce fear and he never hits the dog he matches the aggression of the dog and grabs at it I play rougher with my dog than he does when he corrects an aggressive dog. I have seen negative enforcement trainers and he is not like that. The dogs never loook afraid they look happy when he corrects them and they can relax and actually live with people rather than be put down.

eating feces is usually due to a horrible diet. 85% of commercial food causes malnutrition. causes cancer, tumors, skin problems, and even behavioral problems. Vets recommend science diet and iams because they are paid to by the companies. when your dog develops these issues they make money on treating them. If you care about your dog at all stay away from this garbage and feed them rice, meat, beans, dark leafy greens, eggs..ect

It clearly wouldn't make a difference if he wasn't any good? If its a job too big (which is rare!), he will admit that and recommend the owners to seek out training lessons instead of just his one to one sessions. I don't see why anyone would have anything against the guy, it doesn't make sense :S

There are only two dogs he's never been able to cure.
One was brain damaged, and the other was trained to attack and kill people by going for their neck. The dog had been raised it's whole life to attack and kill anyone, and he just couldn't gain it's trust.

No he gained the second dogs trust after two weeks of taking the dog to his shelter but nobody else could get near the dog.
so the dog was sent to a no-kill shelter to live out the rest of his life.

I thought it went, He was picked up off the streets by a guy who the dog trusted. Cesar gained his trust after a while, but no one else could and he lives with the guy who originally found him? Thats what my copy of the book said anyway. XD
Either way, the dog cannot be called rehabilitated because it can't function in society.
