Physical and Practical test on Tuesday 18th ... almost halfway to becoming a retained friefighter in South Wales Fire and Rescue.... love the video , thanks its giving me the inspiration to eventually become a Firefighter
My partner was a retained firefighter for 8 & a half years. I know first hand the hours they work when their pagers go off at 2 in the morning and dont come home till the next evening! All of you out there slagging them off should bare in mind that they are on call pretty much 24/7 unless at their other jobs which in my eyes makes them extreamley hard working individuals which is alot more than most of the human population could handle! They truely are lifesavers and should get the recognition!!
no offense but no british fire fighter knows what beying a FIRE fighter means, they have never worked 48 hours straight with a hose in their hands surrounded by 40 meter high flames, they have never seen 4 friends beeying traped in a circle of fire before their own eyes, they have never known the feeling of beeying stuck in a forest fire, fire all around you know way out, you fall to your knees saying good bye
@tiagandremo NO BRITISH FIRE FIGHTER KNOWS WHAT BEING A FIRE FIGHTER MEANS???
Since 1939 approximately 1300 British fire fighters have lost their lives whilst on duty. Are you telling me none of them knew what it was to be a fire fighter? This is not about who is best, its about acknowledging the risks and sacrifices fire fighters across the globe make to protect the public.
@smarshall83 if you think since 1939 about 1300 deaths are alot, about 200 of them die every summer where im from, and they dont get payed, 98% of them are volunteers, i dont know about you but it takes alot of balls to go stick your ass in forest fires every day getting payed exactly 0
@smarshall83 and plus last year about 18 died at a huge forest fire where 3 fires joined as 1, where there were 3000 fire fighters, 1600 vehicles and 9 air support vehicles where attending,
@tiagandremo I am not disputing the difficulties that your fire fighters face; however your comments are completely offensive and insensitive. Because British fire fighter are not fighting forest fires in your country are their lives worth less. You need to think before you type. The opening line's of your posts below are shocking.
What other job pays u for sleeping? and gives you enough time off to do another job?.Theres forty applications for every job going. Its a well known easy number.Brave men-maybe so but then so are a lot of others.includeing unpaid members of the public. They are so scared of losing thier well paid jobs that they will let kids throw stones at them.
I think all services in the UK do an amazing job like the RNLI Coastguard rescue teams and all the other volunteers that help protect and save us when we phone 999. So they are all as brave and dedicated in their work my father was in a coastguard rescue team and i am a retained fire fighter so i think everyone should be thanked and praised too
SCRUMPYMAN:- you have just summed up what most of the UK do, they only think of firefighters when they are in danger. I do agree that the other volunteer's services don't get as much respect as they should but they do "volunteer" to do it.
Hmm looking at the retained (part-time) pay scales for North Yorkshire alone its only a few thousand a year according to the fire brigade union. even part-time, they still work 4 days for 24 hours at a time
Fire fighters get paid enough. It s the volunteers like the RNLI and mountain and cave resuce teams that need more recognition. They put their lives in just the same amount of danger for sweet FA. When they are not working they are plumbing and when they are working, they sit on their arses complaining about pay and conditions. Yes I will be thankful to them if my house is burning down, but I would be just as thankful to the lifeboatmen if I was on a sinking ship!
ya it seems the most dangerouse jobs are the most poory paid, we only get one life and these guys choose to risk theirs every day keeping us mortals safe. i want to join the fire service, its something that appeals to me, the pay may not be the best in the world but knowing that what i do for a living is letting people see there children and families again. its an honest days pay dont you think?
You will rarely hear a bad word said about brave firefighters, and those who do have bad words to say, are usually small minded gits who don't know better.
my mum was a member of thr RMT during the stikes she went on the protest march in london for firefighters pay and got me a hat with the words 30k id fair pair pay i wore it everywhere i went untill the strikes ended
personally i think it's an utter discrace in how low firefighters wages are in the UK, don't know about the US. Something that hasn't been properly addressed by the government. So discraceful how firefighters are out-paid by some who work a calculater in an office for a few hours
I agree joining RDS soon and ive seen pay wages for WT 30,000 a year for full compotent thts a piss take when people sit on there ass in an office and can get twice as much
I am sure I speak for all us Firefighters.......We love what we do and we love to it when people show their appreciation by doing things like this.....Thanks
You said it perfectly..... as a fire fighter in Greater Manchester I love the job I do and wouldn't wanna do anything else. Like you said its great when people show appreciation for the work not just fire fighters but all the 999 services carry out. by creating things like this video......fantastic video thanks
fukiiin well done mate certainly aint easy to get in but once your in its the best you can get I havnt applied yet as im 17 but when im 18 I will I just wish they recruited for more than 2 weeks LOL
My brothers a retained firefighter, Paid nowhere near enough to put their lives on the line. Having objects thrown at him while trying to put out a fire and save a young childs life.
what a fantastic video, my hairs stood on end as i watched it.. i guess it about retained firefighters, thay are true firefighters. work all day or night, and ready at the sound of the alert to go to the station , do what needs needs to be done and then get back to normal life. untill the alert goes off again. ALLWAYS READY AND ALLWAY WILLING. true heroes and true respect.... THANK YOU ALL.

if i could ask Gordan Brown one question it would be why the Fire Service is so poorly paid, and funded.
