  • this song was playing on the radio right before the car spun out of control and flipped over. I was in the rear drivers side seat, my sister was driving and her boyfriend was in the passengers seat. My infant nephew was in his seat next to me.

    We all survived.

  • @trollshamanpwnage Wow, that gave me goosebumps. Have a wonderful life:) You're clearly meant to.

  • Holy crap! She scared me at 3:30!

  • the 21 people who disliked this have no taste in music.

  • @g78goose so so true dude

  • 20 monkeys played with computers...

  • I love Big Brother and the Holding Company! They were raw, just like Janis! It's a crying shame they got steamrolled by the money machine!!

  • @eezeedoesit yOu are the reason America is going down the tubes,

your fuckn STUPID. Your brain is simple, go get culled by nature dumbass..

  • @o56kid if only i could take the honour, it would be a pleasure to take the USA DOWN!!!!

  • @eezeedoesit no wonder you are a half wit, your one of those haters. . .

    Stupid shit, fuck you. .

  • @eezeedoesit Pack a lunch mother fucker!

  • @eezeedoesit pack a lunch MF!

  • Janis totally "Climbed Into" each song on this album! She was one of a kind - and we will never see the likes of her brilliance again!

  • I had this album and wish I still did. Would be worth some bucks now.

  • @blueberries4ever what did you do to it?

  • FRISCO!!!!!!!

  • Yup--only Janis can sing this song!! She smoked, ingested, and swallowed about everything except probably her shoes!! SAD!! But I think, so did Mozart, Stephen Foster, Jim Morrison, Judy Garland, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley and numerous other musical geniuses--Very Sad Indeed!! They are icons in the music world that every living generation can relate to!! Many musicians and artists do themselves in and no one (to this day) understands why!! QUESTION-- Why is Keith Richards still alive???

  • @oldmick581 Well it depends on the artist probably. Some did it for escape and some did it for adventure. Some did it for adventure but found it convenient for escape while others still relished life but still wanted to get f'd up. I think Keith Richards fit in this category. "You mean I can get wasted, be in one of the best bands ever and still love life". Just a theory of course. Thanks for introducing me to Stephen Foster, I used to be made to sing these songs growing up.

  • @oldmick581 Stephen Foster died with 37 cents in his pocket. Imagine what he would be worth on today's market with royalties and residuals. If you ever find yourself driving down to Fla on I 75, stop by the Stephen Foster memorial on the Suwanee River. It's worth the sidetrip.

  • @kilts4u2 Record companies make sure most of their artists don't get royalties. They're just loan sharks with enough power to make their mob-like business practices legal.

"I should have another $5,000 for last year's album sales".

"There was a fire earlier this month, we don't have records of your album sales."

    OR

"Due to unforeseen legal fees, we had to recoup..."

I know of many people with hit records (some I know personally) that don't have a dime to their name for stuff like that.

  • 18 people have never been in a relationship

  • 18 people wouldn't know music if it came up and bit them on the arse.

  • I came

  • I'm going to be honest here. The first time I heard this song I thought it was Axl Rose singing.

  • Who the flip doesn't like this? 18 people are idiots, sorry but you are. If you don't like it don't comment or rate.

  • UNBELIEVABLE.......REST IN PEACE jANICE.....DGW

  • Such a brilliant, talented woman. I read that reading was her guilty pleasure...she didn't want it to get out and ruin her image :P

  • @GlensLorelei pretty sure booze and pills were her guilty pleasures....

  • @pararoids that was uncalled for

  • @TheHuMoCa not really!

  • @GlensLorelei Bit ironic that she could do as many drugs as she wanted but READING would ruin her image haha

  • I thought it was a man tbh

  • Janis :) awesommeee

  • who was original singer?

  • @berryboy2006 Erma Franklin originally sang this. But if you're asking who is singing in the band its Janis Joplin.

  • @KyplayaZ4lyfe This song was like, on the radio alot few years back, can u remember who song it around then ;/? i like that version the best

  • @berryboy2006 Faith Hill sang it maybe thats who your thinking of.

  • All she ever wanted was for us to feel good, that's what I believe. Feeling good should be easy.

  • the lady had some pipes. Wish she was around longer. Can you imagine what she would of done and how she would of done it too? We lost too many brilliant and talented artist too soon. I am so thankful we have her voice still hear to listen to and to share with the younger generation to listen to see what they missed but can still hear and can be infulenced by.

  • great song!!!

  • I'm only 15, and I find it so sad that music today is basically shit. Not ALL of it, but most of it. This is music.

  • More than 40 years old, and still so many people listen to this, and other songs of the era. 20 maybe even 10 years down the line nobodies going to know who the Fuck lil wayne, or Nicki Minaj where, but I'm sure as hell they'll remeber Janis Joplin. A woman with the best soul ever.

  • 17 lame ass fuckz!!!!!

  • Classic!

  • One of my favorites by her: Piece Of My Heart - Big Brother & The Holding Company [San Francisco, California] Joplin, Janis - No.12 on 9/28/1968. 8 weeks Top 40 - "AMG pick. Is arguably Joplin's greatest/BEST hit in a small catalog of magnificent vocal work. This song left an INDELIBLE impression on me that has lasted to this day!" - Cheap Thrills [Bonus Tracks] [Import Japan] (Sony Music Distribution)-2004. NOTE: This Japanese reissue is the BEST sounding version!

  • Two words: Robert Crumb

  • Janis was one of the greatest singers of all time but fucking hell Big Bro and The Holding Company were so bad at performing live. They wrote great music but man every time I see them live they're out of time and everything!!!!!!!! But this sounds grear (even though it prob took about 60 takes lol!)

  • @Django5198

Aaaah, bro, what you always heard with Big Brother and the Holding Company was LIVE unadulterated Rock & Roll / Blues ... not 'mixed', re-mixed and/or enhanced. And THAT, chile' was one of the things that makes them GREAT!

  • @ScorpionsSphynx yeah well that was just my opinion. But there's a live version I saw when the guitarist was playing the wrong notes and the drummer lost timing and it just seemed like a nightmare to me. The music has been written so brilliantly well though.

  • @Django5198

You're not from the 60's or the 70's right?

Oftimes R&R was written while onstage ... sometimes sounded bad, sometimes right on ... improv was alive and well in Janis' day ... mine too ... I backed her up in '63 ...

  • @ScorpionsSphynx CHRIST THAT'S QUITE SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!! i didn't even know she was recording then

  • @Django5198

backed her up LIVE at Parkers Ballroom ... great human being, kind and loving ... loved life like no one else I knew at the time ...

  • Janis Joplin was awesome, too bad i wasn't born when she was still around :(

  • janis is the greatest!!! May she rest in peace...
