From what I heard relating to the video he kept the foot, though loss alot of feeling and some function in it. That is why I wear boots that go to my midcalf. That bone is harder to break then the ankle and won't usually break as badly.
No its a compound fracture. The worst ones to have where the sharp edge of the fractured bone penetrates the skin causing nerve, and circualtory damage. I.E- the most painful fracture you can get!!!
