These cymbals sound amazing and are very affordable, the only problem is they are made of ms63 and its not the strongest metal, so they will break (they are very durable though dont get me wrong) (but if u get the warranty then your fine, cause by the time the warranty is up youll just buy higher quality cymbals)
Is the China cymbal worth buying, it's the only thing i can afford atm that is by a trusted and good company, answers would be really helpful, cheers :D
@LaVaBeAvErHD Not really, it's lame.. but it's ok if you just need a china to practice, but I'd recomend you find a Wuhan china instead if you're low on cash :)
just bought a meinl hcs 16" crash after my old sabian crapped out on me. Liking so far. Sustain not too long, which is a complaint I have about a lot of cymbals, but not this one.
These came with my Imperialstar. Definitely great if you're starting out. And I think ride isn't too bad. I still have it on my kit actually. You can check out my videos if you want to hear it. I cracked my crash after 2 years of playing. And I cracked the top hat after 2 1/2 years. Just my experience with them. I hope it helps anyone looking to buy them!
I honestly think a customer would be better served by seeing a far, far worse drummer play these, since -- presumably -- most drummers shopping for these cymbals don't remotely approach the chops of the dude in the video. But then, I understand it's counter the purpose of selling cymbals to show some silly tit bashing on them.
How long have you been playing? they sound good within the first month, then later they sound terrible. they are very durable, and actually the ride isn't terrible either, but it's not a series to buy if you're a serious drummer.
@sobegod4444 I have been playing for six years and I only have the ride and 8'' splash. You're right, the ride is good and the splash has deteriorated over time. I own most of the Sabian XS20 series, which isn't good to buy if you're a serious drummer, but (in my opinion) they sound great and have been sounding as great as they sounded when I first bought them 5 years ago.
@sobegod4444 I mean, I like them. If you like a moderately bright sound I would recommend the 14'' rock hats, they're not too expensive for the quality. They run at about $185 new but if you plan to buy used they're about $80-$100
@LousyMusician15 I'm going to try to get a new pair, used cymbals of any sort piss me off. And just to throw this out, I HATE Zildjian with a passion, they're cymbals sound pretty good, but were built to last only months. I personally hate them.
@sobegod4444 sounds like you're beating the hell out of your cymbals. i've had my sweet ride and beautiful baby for years, and they are still doing great.
@asdfcrow I never had a zildjian ride, I've only had a zildjian 10" zht splash and zht fast crash, both lasted only about 5 months new. I've used a meinl MCS ride for a while and it hasn't cracked on me, but I just don't like the sound too much (it's decent for now), but I barely use rides while I play live because when it's mic'd up it doesn't go through clearly most of the time. But if I'm playing jazz or something slower and more mellow I'll use it.
This cymbals have 62% bronze, PST3 and Planet Z do not have any percent of that metal. B8 are made with around 80% or 92% percent bronze, so HCS are not too far from them in regards to sound.
Jajaja, I just changed my paiste set for these ones... for my taste they are better. For sure I love the Alpha series on Paiste, but the only cymbals that I have heard better than the HCS are the Soundcaster of Meinl, no other vendor
@ajcf1995 no... the ZBTs are probably the absolute worst cymbals ive ever heard. I own a set or them. I actually like the 20" ride though, but the china sounds like a cracked crash (I should know what that sounds like), the 16" crash isn't bad but breaks really easily, and the 14" crash is a splash in disguise, except it doesn't give you the quick crash, just the sound and breaks easily. The hi-hats aren't bad, until you open them. that's when they sound like an old cat coughing up a hairball.
@screamsoftheundead1 i totally agree i had 2 crash's and hi hats from the zbt line and they were fucking terrible both hi hat cymbals cracked and the other cymbals cracked two and they sounded awful i bought the HCS's and i still use them even in my setup 2day and ive had them for like a year and a half.
My suggestion would be to not by the HCS series crash cymbals. The hats sound ok, the ride is good, and the splash is absolutely beautiful. But the crash i have from this series sounds like plastic.
I plan to buy a Drum kit in the near future, and I've decided that after I've had the stock cymbals for a while, I'll be upgrading to Meinl HCS cymbals =) I think they sound great for the price range they're in.
@pescalante2 the 18"pst5 sounds like crap over time ... it has a low end attack that wouldn't mix with the other crashes... but the 16" is the killer the 18 b8 rock is good ..
yo this video is awesome the cymbals sound good. btw ralf Gustke you are a beast. you play so good. i wish i could get that good. i have been playing for like 2 and a half years and am 13 years old. i dont take lessons and want to buy the HCS series Meinl cymbals. after watching this video i am tottally convinced as to which cymbals i will get. Meinl is for sure the best quality of cymbals for a good price......
If you like shitty cymbals, HCS is the way to go, they sound decent especially the ride. I've since upgraded to an MB10 Bell Blast ride and the only thing wrong with the HCS ride is that its too quiet
@fallingpanter Wuhan's New Traditional cymbals are excellent for the money. Hand made B20 bronze cymbals at the price you'd pay for B8 bronze cymbals, can't go wrong with that.
I own all the cymbals he's got here (Except the 18" crash) and they're amazing for the price. You can get all these cymbals here combined for the same price as one 21" Zildjian ride.
@ThePorreye zildjian sucks, except for the A and K custom, meinl are much more versatil and sounds great of classic to MB20, after meinl, paiste are great to, of pst5, after meinl and paiste, sabian, and after that very very long, is zildjian...
personnally I think drummers look at other cymbals brand and series and size and compete whether who has better cymbals. I, in fact don't care if these are the cheapest things that meinl has. Meinl makes high quality cymbals period. I think these are just cymbals that a good drummer can make sound good. After all if you can do good on cheaper cymbals imagine what you could do with stuff from the byzance series. :-)
:) i agree... i also have byzance and stage cymbal AND HSC ... the HCS were my firt cymbal and love them ( but the 16" crash sound weird :P , but HCS is very good for beginners :) ... )
@BergmannsMusic I agree, I watch this video just for the drumming and music. Until now I had never seen a brass china but it's obvious why, that thing sounds horrible.
@mamagehtessen WTF? the sound of cymbals i like to. not want say, that i will doesn't know of the cymbals. I used google translate because i don't know speak english. I'm Chilean.
A matched pair of the AKG 414 condenser mics cost 2200 €.
But it is not only the mics. The sound is edited with noisegates, filters, enhancer and such stuff. When you know how to use this things well, you could even make a trash can lid sound good.
At the end of the video you can see the types and sizes, splash 10, hi hat 14, crash 16, crash 18, china 18, and ride 20, I love this cymbals, I have more than 20 years playing drums and for me they sound really nice...
Man, I have these cymbals, I can tell you that I changed my PST5 for these ones, HCS sound is way too nice. I know that PST5 are made with B8, and HCS only have 62% bronze, but they have bronze and sound really nice. MCS series are made with B8 too, but I prefer HCS sound. For me the only ones better than HCS are Soundcaster series by Meinl, they are perfect...
Man the china is about $60, it's really cheap, I bought a set with the 14 hi hats, crash 16, ride 20, and splash 10 in $175. Now I am getting the china 18 and the crash 18 and the splash 8 are affordable.
I've had to use some of these at a few gigs where changeover time was short and I couldn't use my Byzances and Mb20s... they're surprisingly good! It's amazing how these brass cymbals sound better than other companies' starter bronze lines.
i know a lot of people put these cymbals down, but i think they sound realy good. it just depends on how you play em though to i guess. i play punk and hardcore, and prefer darker cymbals, but i can get the job done just fine with these, and theyre cheap. =] if you cant get em to sound good you arnt playin them right, not that you arnt a good musician, just that the way you play isnt how these cymbals should be played
I totally agree with You, I have more than 20 years playing drums, and for sure there are some techniques that have to be acquired in order to hit the cymbals and make them sound good. But this cymbals sound great by default...
@DrumCoalitionWithWar i have sabian B* pro and zildjian ZXT cymbals and yea they are awesome but meinl are class too!! im gna get the MCS or Classic series soon
the sound more appealing with mics and with a very well tuned kit. However, i do like the ride for the price. LOL jk i own a 22" K Custom Ride by Zildjian, best ride in world, or so is my opinion.
@DrumCoalitionWithWar yea true!! and it depends on how u hit them and play them aswell..i mean a good drummer can make shitty cymbals sound good! and nice one..atm i have a sabian B8 Pro 20"" ride..savin up for a meinl starcaster one =D
@DrumCoalitionWithWar how do the byzance series sound? if u have tried em..and nice one!! i dont really believe in taking lessons myself but if that works for u then keep at it =)
@sohaib785 man fuck you, taking lessons is what opens new doors to creativity, i practice books plenty, but i still like to get with a guy whos been playing drums all his life who has played with some various well-known drummers such as steve gadd, and steve smith to name two! I'm all drums, all the time. Don't mock me for saying i take lessons, let's see how good you are man? Do you practice at all? And what are you, a fucking jew? Afraid to spend a little money? And yes i've played byzance fag
@DrumCoalitionWithWar hey chill man..i didn't mean anything bad by it!! i said I dont take lessons, not that you shouldn't take lessons!! if u wanna take lessons then do thats ur own thing!!! and go to my channel and watch my vids and u'll get the idea of my drumming!! and i spend loads of money..i just dont have the money to buy any cymbals atm!!
@DrumCoalitionWithWar What the hell? He didn't mock you at all! Plenty of incredible drummers are self-taught, and just as many took lessons, no need to go ape cos he says lessons don't work for him :S
@sohaib785 man fuck you, taking lessons is what opens new doors to creativity, i practice books plenty, but i still like to get with a guy whos been playing drums all his life who has played with some various well-known drummers such as steve gadd, and steve smith to name two! @sohaib785 they sound amazing because of the the mics and the mixing. I wouldnt recommend any of these cymbals besides the hi hats if ur low on cash. (i owned the hcs series)

mlopezc200x1 6 months ago
i love those hats! lol
Secondofolitude 1 year ago
i want to believe they sound that good, but Im skeptical cause they could have done a lot of mixing and effects
AmbitiousMOnkey1100 1 year ago
@AmbitiousMOnkey1100 the crash doesnt but the ride and hats do!
Secondofolitude 1 year ago
@Secondofolitude thanks, i was going to get the mcs series, but i would also like the hcs crash as a secondary
AmbitiousMOnkey1100 1 year ago
Man, I have these cymbals, I can tell you that I changed my PST5 for these ones, HCS sound is way too nice. I know that PST5 are made with B8, and HCS only have 62% bronze, but they have bronze and sound really nice. MCS series are made with B8 too, but I prefer HCS sound. For me the only ones better than HCS are Soundcaster series by Meinl, they are perfect...
mlopezc200x1 6 months ago
How much is the china?
ddarkness1627 1 year ago
Man the china is about $60, it's really cheap, I bought a set with the 14 hi hats, crash 16, ride 20, and splash 10 in $175. Now I am getting the china 18 and the crash 18 and the splash 8 are affordable.
mlopezc200x1 6 months ago
@mlopezc200x1 i found the ride for $49

I've had to use some of these at a few gigs where changeover time was short and I couldn't use my Byzances and Mb20s... they're surprisingly good! It's amazing how these brass cymbals sound better than other companies' starter bronze lines.
Mp5Drummer 1 year ago
A friend of mine has those and they dont sound like in the Video.. well i think they mixed a lot.
oOoOViperOoOo 1 year ago
now im mad, cuz mine dont sound that good, i mean they are good but mine dont sound as good as the ones in this video.
jay4yb 1 year ago
holy shit! these are meinl's lowest end cymbals and they sound great! this is why i choose meinl easily on top of zildjian, sabian, or paiste.

His Ears must have hurted after that one
Dragonwatcher2008 1 year ago
i know a lot of people put these cymbals down, but i think they sound realy good. it just depends on how you play em though to i guess. i play punk and hardcore, and prefer darker cymbals, but i can get the job done just fine with these, and theyre cheap. =] if you cant get em to sound good you arnt playin them right, not that you arnt a good musician, just that the way you play isnt how these cymbals should be played
GirlPants92 1 year ago
I totally agree with You, I have more than 20 years playing drums, and for sure there are some techniques that have to be acquired in order to hit the cymbals and make them sound good. But this cymbals sound great by default...

@sohaib785
dont be fooled, Zildjian ZHT, and Sabian B8 are fuckin much better
DrumCoalitionWithWar 1 year ago
@DrumCoalitionWithWar i have sabian B* pro and zildjian ZXT cymbals and yea they are awesome but meinl are class too!! im gna get the MCS or Classic series soon
sohaib785 1 year ago
@DrumCoalitionWithWar oh and no1 is being fooled in this video..the cymbals speak for themselves =)
sohaib785 1 year ago
@sohaib785
the sound more appealing with mics and with a very well tuned kit. However, i do like the ride for the price. LOL jk i own a 22" K Custom Ride by Zildjian, best ride in world, or so is my opinion.
DrumCoalitionWithWar 1 year ago
@DrumCoalitionWithWar yea true!! and it depends on how u hit them and play them aswell..i mean a good drummer can make shitty cymbals sound good! and nice one..atm i have a sabian B8 Pro 20"" ride..savin up for a meinl starcaster one =D
sohaib785 1 year ago
@sohaib785
ahhh god no!! well its your money... lol
DrumCoalitionWithWar 1 year ago
@DrumCoalitionWithWar u ever used starcaster cymbals??
sohaib785 1 year ago
@sohaib785
dude! Yes! the drum shop i take lessons at, has a fucking huge cymbal vault. They have virtually every brand of well known cymbal there
DrumCoalitionWithWar 1 year ago
@DrumCoalitionWithWar how do the byzance series sound? if u have tried em..and nice one!! i dont really believe in taking lessons myself but if that works for u then keep at it =)
sohaib785 1 year ago
@sohaib785 man fuck you, taking lessons is what opens new doors to creativity, i practice books plenty, but i still like to get with a guy whos been playing drums all his life who has played with some various well-known drummers such as steve gadd, and steve smith to name two! I'm all drums, all the time. Don't mock me for saying i take lessons, let's see how good you are man? Do you practice at all? And what are you, a fucking jew? Afraid to spend a little money? And yes i've played byzance fag
DrumCoalitionWithWar 1 year ago
@DrumCoalitionWithWar hey chill man..i didn't mean anything bad by it!! i said I dont take lessons, not that you shouldn't take lessons!! if u wanna take lessons then do thats ur own thing!!! and go to my channel and watch my vids and u'll get the idea of my drumming!! and i spend loads of money..i just dont have the money to buy any cymbals atm!!
sohaib785 1 year ago
@DrumCoalitionWithWar What the hell? He didn't mock you at all! Plenty of incredible drummers are self-taught, and just as many took lessons, no need to go ape cos he says lessons don't work for him :S

@sohaib785 they sound amazing because of the the mics and the mixing. I wouldnt recommend any of these cymbals besides the hi hats if ur low on cash. (i owned the hcs series)
