Ice-T's keyboard player is tapping on this thing onstage in Breakin' 2 during the "Go Off" song at the Radiotron. Was this what was actually used on the recording of that song is what I wonder.
wait, I thought these were analog drum machines? Are they??? I am starting to hear from some people that they are drum samples and not analog sounds. I am starting to rethink my recent ebay purchase of a DX!!!!
@dzlvs8 they are samples, but not the type of samples you're thinking about. they are recorded drums from actual drums and percussion. analog sounds are analog synthesis that can be shaped and mixed into different sounds (i.e. Simmons, Synare, Syndrum, Tr-808 606)
much respect bro. I used to love making beats on the my homie MP. Now I just use the computer, but I got all the drum machine plugins. Its like having every drum machine in one spot.
You could probably get a DX for $200-400. The DMX is the same basically but with a superior snare drum.
For practical purposes though, you might as well get the DX/DMX samples off the net and use them in Reason or something, unless you love these old machines like me.
Great Video! The DX Drum Machine RULZZZ!!! I bought mine in '89 then stupidly sold it in 2001 as part of the Oberheim systems (along with the DSX and the OB-8!) but I bought another Dx (with MIDI!) a few years ago and will NEVER sell it again. Word.
The 808 and DMX / DX were the early / mid 80s Hip-Hop drum machines of choice until the SP12 and MPC 60 arrived. The Drumulator and Linn Drum got a little use too.

I have every classic drum machine's sounds on my MPC's CF card. Sometimes that's just no fun though.

i dint realise the DX was midi compatible , kenton said they could only Mod the DMX and that the DX was unable to have midi.
urbanjedi72 3 years ago
Oberheim made TWO models of the DX, the FIRST one had NO MIDI, the second one did.
