I've been in a motorcycle crash and I will say this is a very good thing. Had this been on my old motorcycle I would have not been catapulted off the front end and continued at 45 mph down a gravel shoulder and then stopping abruptly when I met up with a stone mailbox. I give every ounce of credit that Honda took the time to put this system on a motorcycle. It is not a get out of jail free card for failing to learn how to drive a motorcycle correctly and using common sense.

I really wonder if any of the naysayers even bothered to even view "2008 Honda Gold Wing Airbag Technology" on YouTube. I noticed the naysayers comments were asinine & inane. Of course the naysayers spent big money & did even more research,crash testing & evaluations than HONDA did. To the naysayers there are 3 other HONDA Goldwing model options to choose from. Don't believe the airbag model would beneficial in event of a crash - then don't buy it. For me, I choose the Goldwing Airbag model
@IWANTALEXUS I know someone who t-boned a mini-van with the new Goldwing and had the airbag. He said he was standing there yelling at the driver when he realized he was "standing there" safe and sound. He looked back at the bike and it was just starting to lean over so he ran to try and hold it up to stop any more damage. A t-bone is exactly the kind of crash this is designed for. The bag is too big and too high for you to go over. You might bounce off, but a fall is much better after the bounce

@tretaraska2008 That's not always true. A relative who was a Police Officer on duty riding the PD's H-D crashed into a truck that ran a red light. That that Motor Officer relied upon their training & years of experience to lessen immenant impact while hanging onto the H-D. He did not go flying off the bike. Instead the bike glanced off the truck and went skidding nearly 200 ft. with him still on it, The end result was his butt cheeck & thigh suffered severe roadrash & he survived the crash.

Yes, with the airbag the biker is still gonna fly off of his motorcycle after he crashes. There's no such thing as a safe motorcycle, and there never will be. Nevertheless the severity of the initial impact should be reduced by the airbag. I'm sure this thing will save lives. I'm not sure tho what percentage of bikers really want to live to be old anyway. I think many of them probably have a death wish.

When you have a head on crash, your body fly front but the force of the airbag shoot at you. You are going to absorb the force of the airbag and your body's force going forward...I think the airbag will KILL YOU instead of saving you. Probably make a smaller airbag will be better. I think the airbag should be on a person around the shoulder area. It would deploy when the body strikes something, deploying a "LifeJacket"kinda thing. It would keep your upper body safe. You cant do much about the lower body, but thats the same for cars too.

Well, I've ridden bikes since I was a teenager and I've seen some pretty bad wrecks that I myself have had and others friends who have wrecked as well. I would rather have some protection than not at all as if any of you have ever dumped a bike or had an accident in one, you know the misery. Any protection that will keep your heart beating, lungs breathing and lessen the severity of an impact, I'm all for and this shows that Honda is at the forefront of riding technology.

Back in the '60s some numbnutz introduced a law in Conn. requiring a SEATBELT on motorcycles! The law was defeated by ONE vote from a Legislator who vehemently HATED motorcycles! He explained his vote by saying that if he were the rider, he would want to be as far from the bike as he could get if it crashed!
i would much rather fly off the bike and slide to the corner, than have that thing go off and trap me on the bike while the bike falls over and drags with with it, possibly trapping me on the road and allowing other cars to run me over.

Second the "SMOKE" effect is the airbag DEFLATING and the cornstarch being released. There ya go. Now you all can stop leaving ignorant comments on the "SMOKE." Yes, with the airbag the biker is still gonna fly off of his motorcycle after he crashes. There's no such thing as a safe motorcycle, and there never will be. Nevertheless the severity of the initial impact should be reduced by the airbag. I'm sure this thing will save lives. I'm not sure tho what percentage of bikers really want to live to be old anyway. I think many of them probably have a death wish.

You are going to absorb the force of the airbag and your body's force going forward...I think the airbag will KILL YOU instead of saving you. Probably make a smaller airbag will be better. I think the airbag should be on a person around the shoulder area. It would deploy when the body strikes something, deploying a "LifeJacket"kinda thing. It would keep your upper body safe. You cant do much about the lower body, but thats the same for cars too.

The main "thing" of those kind of "protections" is that they're trying to do better protective gear! Well, I've ridden bikes since I was a teenager and I've seen some pretty bad wrecks that I myself have had and others friends who have wrecked as well. I would rather have some protection than not at all as if any of you have ever dumped a bike or had an accident in one, you know the misery. Any protection that will keep your heart beating, lungs breathing and lessen the severity of an impact, I'm all for and this shows that Honda is at the forefront of riding technology.

To the people who have no clue and thinking the "SMOKE" is actually smoke here are the details: First. The powder substance in HONDA airbags is baby powder or corn starch. Second the "SMOKE" effect is the airbag DEFLATING and the cornstarch being released. There ya go. Now you all can stop leaving ignorant comments on the "SMOKE."
