I recognize all that inharmonicity in the midrange...ouch! I have a U7 that I bought in the late 70's. I learned tuning on it,and I have always tuned it myself...nobody else.
Now that I listen and watch some other vids of somebody tuning a grand,it sounds so different! And so much better I have to say! hehehe
I hope you get well soon. Thanks for the info about the Fujan hammer. I'm still interested to know about the mute you were using though. Currently, I'm only familiar with rubber wedge mutes and the long felt mutes. Yours looked like some sort of clamp. I've seen a clamp style, or tweezer style, but they seem much longer that what you are using in the video.
thanks I think it will take some days before I recover. About the mute. I dont know much about them. At school were I learned to tune they had them and after I start to work at a company I ordered them. I use 1 kind of mute. It's made of rubber , color black, small size. I also have bigger ones that I use for the bass for more grip.
What kind of mute are you using? It looks like a clamp of some sort. I've found a few offered online, but they are 8" long. Yours doesn't seem that long. Looks like a good way to avoid retrieving wedge mutes that have fallen. Also, what program are you using on the pda? I've heard that electronic tuners can save your ears since you don't have to strike the keys so hard. Any comment on that idea? Lastly, when's the next performance video coming out? Really enjoy the boogie woogie.
Im using the Fujan tuning hammer. I like it a lot because of the carbon fiber. I had to borrow the PDA from someone because normaly I tune with my ears but I felt a bit sick that day and my ears weren't doing their job proper. When I tune I hit the keys hard because I also use protectionplugs for my ears. I dont want to get def at the age of 40 :)
I dont know when Im going to put a video online again because Im sick since last sunday so I dont know how long it will take for me to recover :)
I like it a lot. Its so light. Moving from pin to pin go's so smooth and I can feel the difference between a couple of monts with my shoulder. When I hold my old yamaha tuning hammer I can feel the difference, anyway I was pulling the bass up first because it was so low , I did that by ear
I cant cook on a piano =) haha..Im careful with my ears dont worry. Thats why Im wearing earmade plugs because I dont want to be def at the age of 40 =)
ah nothing like an old upright.....Hey a piano tuner knocked on my door yesterday and I said what do you want?I didn't call for a tuner....He said I know you didn't...your neighbors sent me!
well you can see that I smash the keys hard to keep it steady that after some weeks it's still in tune..but I need to protect my ears..those are earmade plugs..they fit perfect and sometimes when I tune at people's home I use them..actually I always use them. Sometimes with peforming too. I just want to protect my ears from getting damaged from for example ..a drummer next to me. The earplugs get rit of the sounds around me and even a person who's vacuumcleaning :) lol
your top class mate, i really have undying respect for those who take the time to do this, and learn it, never mind your actual ability to play piano is in a world of its own. great vid. ty
Is it the correct procedure when tuning, to turn the pin slightly beyond the correct position and then bring it back slightly. Am I right in thinking by doing this it holds its tune better?
Hi, do u think this is a great piano? a dealer offer me USD$2.8k for this. refurbished. wonder if it worth or not :3

didnt know piano tuning long term, could potentially damage your hearing, interesting.

And if you keep it untuned, it will damage A LOT more. =D

thank you, I wanted to show what my other profession is in my life..have a good weekend !
freakyhead20 3 years ago
Good idea to show a video of this profession.
And a very good blues performance before the break.
PS. Am I wrong or were you using earbuds when tuning the high frequency range?

yes I am..I have to take care of my ears with the hard sound of the piano's/grand pianos..I dont wanna be def at the age of 40 ;)

I see, and that would indeed be a terrible fate. To be wise after the event is way too late.

yes that's right..otherwise it will go back in its old position easily

thats very important if you want to tune a piano :)

Not a fun job. I use to tune my Rhodes by sliding the little coil spring on the rods. As a kid,our piano turner was blind, and was he good.

if art tatum could tune piano's he would do his job proper as well hehe :P have a nice weekend!
