Oh man, why do you not have more subscribers?! This is GOLD. Or at the very least... it's mauve. Yes -- mauve follows gold. Or at least it does if you renounce conventional societal norms
usually i'm way into subverting societal norms.... but its the olympics right now!!!!!!!!!!!!! And we all know that silver is the second best........ so i'll take mauve as being between gold and silver. a sort of 2.5. Sweet!
yay fagels! i read his iliad for a course last summer -- and it was far less intimidating than the illustrated version in my english text book in 9th grade. and i would start with the iliad -- b/c it lays the groundwork for the odyssey as well as for the aeneid. if you wanted to go there.
I found the Oddessy to be quite dense and I wasn't able to take it all in, I got confused with all the different places and people and their relations to each other...but then again that was in 5th grade. I might give it another go. Though I was thinking I should read the Iliad first, just 'cause it's the prequel.
Definitely time for a second chance! I find it's pretty easy to discern which names are being mentioned that aren't really important to keep track of. And relationships that do seem important, i tend to write on my bookmark for easy reference. And why read the Iliad by yourself when you can read the Odyssey with friends?
I too love the man pants--an inspiration I could have used when I used to teach the Odyssey. Have you ever wondered about that definite article. I mean, no one says the Gone with the Wind, or the Bridget Jones Diary . . .
YAYYY! I'm so happy you guys are back! I've missed this channel so! Geeze Evan, last I saw you, you were sporting a green mohawk I believe... how'd that go?
I love your rendition of this book. Hilarious. I haven't laughed that hard in quite a while! horray!
I had it for about 2 months, but as it grew out, i got sick of it. It was really something I could only stand for a short time. Thank you for your concern, though!
Odyssey wasn't to bad. I may have *actually* liked it, had I not had to do a horrid amount of questions on each book for english. >.>

fagels is by far my fave translator. i LOVe the iliad. i'm not really an odyssey fan though, odysseus just kind of pisses me off most of the time.

I'm fairly confident that I listened to Book 1 of this translation on audiobook, as read by Simon Callow. Pure delight.
Also pure delight? The reinvention of P&P into a book club. This kid's stoked.
