  • I like the AFI version better... but this ain't terrible.

  • AFI versian is better this i good tho

  • Just listened to AFI's, but I prefer this version

  • offspring FTW XD Best band ever

  • Im a BIG Offspring fan and I this is a great cover but AFI has got them beat on this song. Fan a both of bands but AFI got this one beat.

  • AFI is better...And will always be better

  • NO. WAY. I liked this song because it reminded me of The Offspring (I'm not a fan of AFI's newer things, but whatever), and then I found this. I nearly just had a heart attack at age 12, this is so awesome.

  • pretty good cover - sound is really clean compared to Totalimmortal off of All Hallows EP. just not as good as AFI's version in '99 tho. the refrain is the only part i think that Dexter Holland and his backups nailed. the rest just doesnt quite have that solid hardcore sound to it. Also Davey and Hunter/Jade's voices are the only voices that can sing "This rage i cannot let go" so it will sound right in my opinion. i like the effort tho. cheers to my fave band after AFI.

  • This pain never farts! 1:26

  • Call me crazy, but I actually think this is one of the few cases, like Common People, where the cover is superior to the original.

  • @eastcoastconnectgjp you fucking suck at life and everything. this song is shit the offspring sucks dick and both of you can fucking die

  • Comment removed

  • @smashedandsmothered blasphemy!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I personally prefer the original AFI song, but I didn't know The Offspring was one of those bands that knew AFI back then o_o Woah. That makes me respect them. ('Cus I'm not a big Offspring fan, sadly)

  • cali hardcore '99 bitches

  • i think given the dark nature of the lyrics it should be fvcking obvious

  • why does it sound like they recorded the vocals in a bathroom?

  • this one is ok but A.F.I is better

  • wasnt this on the 1st Batman Movie ost?

  • Guys! THIS is the original version of the song. Offspring wrote this for, the famous Jim Carrey movie: My, Myself & Irene. Then they gave it to AFI to play this song. So please stop saying that it is a great AFI cover. Because it's not. Total Immortal is an original Offspring song.

  • @LyanosOnTheHombre Me Myself and Irene came AFTER the All Hallows EP was released. This was originally an AFI song. Get your facts straight.

  • @LyanosOnTheHombre god damn your an idiot

  • @LyanosOnTheHombre Stop talking.

  • @LyanosOnTheHombre you sir, are retarded

  • @LyanosOnTheHombre what a jackass. all hallows was released a year before me myself and irene even came out.

  • I don't get you people. You are comparring essentially the same recording with a different vocal. The guitar, drumms and bass are almost EXACTLY the same. Maybe the color of the tone is a bit different but it's played essentially the same. Now fanboys of both bands are arguing what recording is better. THEY'RE THE SAME! Only the vocals are different and so it all comes down to who's voice you like better. I like dexters voice better but I'm not saying he sang better than AFI!

  • @winnetouch the vocals are the most important aspect of the song.

  • @velouriesa I'm sorry for you if you think so. So what you're saying is that the instrumental part is unimportant and the guitars can be crap for all you care, as long as the vocals are ok? Besides... You're missing the point. Everything but the vocals is the same and it all comes down to personal prefference.

  • @winnetouch i said MOST important. meaning more important than the other aspects. I am not negating the rest of it. if I was I'd say the ONLY aspect that mattered. get it? understand? reading comprehension my friend. and are you really stanning for the offspring or what.

  • @velouriesa Ah... I see you're one of those people that think we all speak english as a 1st language. Sorry. I don't, so I missread what you've wrote. Sorry 'bout that. But still... Saying that vocals are the MOST important thing of a song is just... wrong. The instruments and vocals have to compliment each other. Without the streinght of the distorted guitar in the background or the killer drums the song would have no beat or energy. Then the vocals would just be some guy screaming.

  • I love the OFFSPRING!

  • @MrMattman456 #1 Offspring "Technically" did master it. Since they put it out on their label. #2 any good musician or music lover can honestly say that this cover surpasses the original hands down. #3 stop being a douchebag. You are not cool.

  • @slicktibs

I wouldn't say "hands down"...but yeah this version has better vocals (sorry Davey)

The original still wins though by virtue of being the original

  • @FeelingFreshSon

this is talking to myself...I take that back! Each one has its own merits, I conclude, after listening to the original.

  • @FeelingFreshSon Aye they really do. And someones music is made the way they choose it to be made. But my comment (although a bit aggressive) was specifically geared toward the people who are saying its crap, its terrible, and the offspring are garbage. Etc... I truly do enjoy Dexters vocals much more. They are clearer, and the mic clearly had much better supression of booms.

  • @slicktibs

yes, better production and his vocals are clearer. In fact, I wish AFI would just remaster all of their old material, but even if that was financially viable Davey can't yell anymore. DAMN.

  • @FeelingFreshSon That was a great response. I agree with you, thanks for a mature, and well spoken response.

  • i miss punk-AFI :(

  • @Khanisghen A-fuckin-men to that...

  • My spring is off!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fuckin'awesome cover.

  • Yep, AFI's All Hallow's EP on October 5, 1999. And DAMN was that version better!

  • damn no band can cover this song that fuckn good. Damn im going to restart the song and smoke a fat bowl

  • @umbora AFI does this song WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY better plus they chould actuly afford to make a music video for it.

  • @shawdowheartlees13 hey i agree but i dont agree on the can afford to make a video... the offspring has waay more money then afi. i love them both and they both changed and got lame. but the offspring was playing on the radio when i was about 7 with 311 and metallica all the time.. im 24 now. didnt know of afi till i was about 15 they both kill it on the old stuff tho.

  • @shawdowheartlees13 Offspring payed for said video. You stupid idiot.

  • fuck offspring ;)

  • @DepressionRomantik you mad, bro?

  • I didn't know The Offspring made a cover o-o

  • Good cover is good

  • Man. The original has more of a melodic feel, but this one's raw as fuck! Both versions are great. Fuck Yeah!

  • I like both their voices a lot, but I agree that Davey's vocal style suits the song more. Still, this is a good cover.

  • I like AFI's original more because I think Davey's voice suits the song more. He can reach those high notes. I love both bands though.

  • Dexter Holland has a better voice than Davey Havok in my opinion.

  • I think this cover is damn good! And I like the original one as well :)

  • This cover is good, and I love both bands. But the "Hope unknown" bit at the start sounds too slurred and the bridge should have been sung in the same octave as Davey did it. But the whole point of a cover is to change it so meh. Original is better. But I think that's just because I heard it first.

  • Great song, but I like the original better :]

  • I like the offspring and all , but this cover can't match the original in any way..

  • HA! you haters......ur just mad because they made it better than AFI

  • @zimplexify definitely!!

  • I don't know why people don't like this cover, it basically is the same song played by different hands, they're not trying to deviate at all. Dexter is also in the perfect range for his voice. It sounds really good.

  • i love the offspring .. this song is not good in my opinion wow did not do AFI justice

  • ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo~!

  • Prefer the original by a long way

  • Comment removed

  • 1:26 = farts!

  • The original was on the All Hallow's EP from '99, I think. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, Offspring found AFI and loved their mix of classic Bay Area hardcore and horror punk, plus they finally found another band who used "whoa" as much as they did. So Dexter put them on his label, Nitro, and then did this cover in about 2001 (or thereabouts, I'm not sure) to help sell records and get AFI more mainstream exposure. I personally adore both bands.

  • @MiloRamone1 didn't they cover this for a movie, i don't remember the name, but davey havoc (lead singer of afi) had a small part in it i believe

  • @asdafrak It might have been featured in the movie Idle Hands, but I'm pretty sure that they didn't do it specifically for the movie. Idle Hands was also the movie that the Offspring redid "Beheaded" and covered "I Wanna Be Sedated" for.

  • @MiloRamone1 the movie i was thinking of was Mary Jane's Not a Virgin Anymore

and afi wrote 2 songs for it, Cruise Control, and Love is a Many Splendored Thing

  • @MiloRamone1 oh and the offspring did cover this song for Me, Myself and Irene...so says wkipedia

  • @MiloRamone1 im a little late on this but....once a band hits mainstream, sure they become popular but the meaning of music goes down the toilet.

  • @zimplexify I beg to differ. Rage Against the Machine? Nirvana? Bad Religion? NOFX? Green Day?

  • @MiloRamone1 well lets see.... you only named 1 band thats any good and thats Nirvana

  • @zimplexify So Bad Religion, NOFX, and Rage aren't good enough for you. What a load of horseshit.

  • @MiloRamone1 It's all opinion based.

  • @zimplexify But it's not an opinion that Rage, Bad Religion, and NOFX had well-informed, well-constructed political views that they expressed in song as well as promoting the message themselves live. Also, Rage and Bad Religion are two of the most critically lauded bands ever. I can't say that for NOFX, but they have many, many fans based solely on the fact that they are staunchly independent.

  • @MiloRamone1 The members of Offspring were already friends with AFI when they did this cover... That's why AFI agreed so quickly... Then the Offspring version got way more exposure than the original and it took a while for people to realize that this one was a cover. :P

  • @undeadunliving As far as I know this was never released as a single and most people I know knew about the AFI version first. And the reason the two bands were friends was because Dexter signed them to Nitro.

  • @mrBelfegorr Afi IS gay, the offsrping Is waaaaaay better hahaha

  • @123ericcartman

You know The Offspring found AFI and produced their debut album right? :P lol

  • @123ericcartman not rlly..

  • better than the original

  • @yoru9215 nope.

  • @fresh098 yes

  • What album is this from?

  • @evilconcarne444

Not from any album, I'm pretty sure. AFI used to be on Dexter's Nitro Records, and I think this cover was done to get them some more exposure. Seems to have worked.

  • My favourite bit of this video is at 1:26. It's subtle, but I like it.

  • I love The Offspring but AFI´s is better for sure ! :-)

  • afi gay, offspring is better

  • @mrBelfegorr youre a bitch

  • @mrBelfegorr @TheAyoob fuck you both. afi is the most awesome band ever!!!!!!!!!! this is more pop than the horror punk that the original was

  • Great job, great song, just as great as AFI. !!!!

  • decent, Although AFI wipes the floor with them:)

  • Correction: Wiped. WIPE-DAH.

  • @SharkWADs yeah you're right.

AFI wipe dah floor with them :P

  • No, as in wipED the floor with them.

  • @SharkWADs shhhhhh

  • decent, Although AFI wipes the floor with them

  • ::sneak fart attack::

  • Not bad but afi are just too amazing for this to compete with

  • Why people stating that they like this... then saying the original is better though? It's a cover, covers aren't supposed to be better then the original. -.-

  • @McKenna654 better is an opinion in most cases and ALWAys an opinion when it comes to music. covers aren't supposed to be better, they're supposed to be different.

  • @McKenna654 what about most of the punk goes pop covers i'd rather listen to them than the originals any day

  • @MrSandmanx0 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH FUYCKING SWEATER

  • Good cover...slightly different sound to the guitar and vocals...I find the AFI version to be more "raw"...but this one is good in its own right even if I find the vocals a little odd-sounding.

But that's only because I heard the AFI one first. :)

  • Any voice put in as a replacement in the AFI song, will be a winner for me, so this is great for me I guess

  • @marsdevilsvolta people like you make me laugh.

  • i mean looks like people like this cover and all, but what did they really do differently? nothing just different vocals. i think it blows. and i love the offspring, smash was the first cd i ever bought when i was like 10. but this gets a thumbs down.

  • their cover is good. AFI's original is better though. makes us remember the good ol' times when davie wasnt "emo"

  • @eresmibellatraicion and thats a dumb comment about him being emo. you spelled his name wrong too............. what would u know about the " good ol' times"? i dont know why but people like you make me angry.

  • @eresmibellatraicion he was more lady like when this came out then he was in 2006.. an edjamucation seems to be in order here.

  • Nice cover, but I still love the original. :D

  • @bobokk guess your the one who sucks haha

  • @bobokk

Great. Now we have another thing to argue about XD.

  • I prefer this version because Dexter's voice is so much better.

  • AFI and The Offspring are both great bands. and both versions are good.

  • the original certainly has a vibe, but no band can compete with THE OFFSPRING!

  • I definately favor the cover. The Offspring just... well, they kick your ears in the ass ;)

  • i like dexters voice better. sounds more old school punk, which i prefer

  • they tried... the original is better...

    AFI covers Last Caress? (y)

  • the original song makes this one look like a little bitch

  • r u kidding afi is soo much better than this.

  • Its nice to see a great band do a great cover of another great band.

  • so much better. i love the offspring

  • farts!

  • AFI and offspring used to colab all the time, read the AFI CD booklets.

  • you can`t compare AFI with THE OFFSPRING

THE OFFSPRING is much better, AFI sucks

  • I rly only miss on thing on this track, and that is the Awsome bass that goes in the back, and RLY comes to sound in some parts. else i rly like the offpsrings too ^^ but the origial gives me goosebumps due to the fantastic bass in the background

  • guitar is better here (don't kill me jade fans), but havok's singing was much better.

  • @ThroughLidlessEye I agree. I prefer the guitars on the cover...

  • @ThroughLidlessEye ...the guitars the same damn thing...how the hell is it better...

  • so much better \m/*-*

  • cool

  • offspring is way better.... afi i dont know.... come on and make me happy x)

  • nice, Offspring covering AFI - one of my fav. by AFI

  • if afi re recorded this song in 2010 it wouldn't sound as good as the all hallows ep version

  • @ToolRocks92 he covered it to promote afi first time i ever heard of afi was when i bought the me myself and irene soundtrack in the year 2000 i remember reading the back of the cd and thinking who is afi?

  • any dumbshit who thinks AFI beats the offspring should realize that offspring was around first and in fact a major influence to AFI. who cares if this is worse or better than the original? it's cool to hear a song by a good band played by another good band

  • @aaronwanker1 Offspring better?? Smash was the ONLY good CD by offspring. Listen to pretty fly for a white guy or the rest of that album and say that again..

  • @mdy18 Offspring's every track is awesome. ok, almost every. There are some tracks which I don't like, despite the fact that i'm a huge fan of The Offspring.

  • I like the AFI version better lol

  • awesome !

  • no offense but the singer sounds really weird in this song? What's wrong with his voice? When he says "hope unknown" he sounds like he's whining. Too much auto tune on his voice. at least davey had his real voice when he sang

  • @AFIxKillingxLights autotune? are you fucking serious? lololol

  • i love the offspring !

  • While it was cool of the offspring to promote AFI this way, they just dont have the same feeling in this song as AFI. You can't compare.

  • I like the Offspring but this cover is just a total fail, his voice just doesn't suit it. Plus, I can't even hear the bass like in the original which completes the song.

  • The Offspring was good until "Pretty fly for a white guy"... Remember "Come Out and Play"?

  • It's a good cover, but his voice just doesn't work for the song.

  • Good cover but original is better in my opinion :-)

  • @SnoopY0159 agreed

  • @SnoopY0159 i agree

  • @SnoopY0159

Personally I like this version better than the original. :p

  • OH MY GOD, I LOVE THAT!!!!! AAAAAAAAAH

  • I actually like this cover better, no disrespect to AFI but Offspring is my favorite punk band of all time :-P But I will say they both are some really kickass bands!

  • great cover... nitro records (youth energy)

  • Yay now this song doesnt sound like balls being chopped off

  • original version shits on this :p but cool cover anyway

  • i love noodle !!!!

  • This is an awsome cover. And Dexter did such a great job on the vocals.

I don't care if anyone says this isn't a good song for them.I think it is awsome!

    (AFI version isnt bad etheir)

    Offspring all the way!

  • WOAH! i didnt know the offspring covered AFi...sweet :)
