There are musical styles and musicians that upon first listen I just don't understand, but who are highly regarded. I think it is a mixture of maturity and growing experience as a musician myself. I remember not getting BB King; revisiting it many years later, and having that eureka moment. Metheny has been like that for me, but his solo on this tune may have actually been the eureka moment I was missing. Stunning.
