They were here before my time, but I want them back! Life was so simple and yet people were so happy in those days. What happened to this world and the people in it?
No, beware arguing! I know there wasn't, yet I saw your comment to Grzegorz about that unique recording of yours which he had recorded from that radio broadcast, and I simply wanted to thank you specifically :-) too.
I, knowing all (!) the story of this "unique record", for many years in my possession (having been re-played on radio and now re-edited) just said that I recognized it, which I do.
There is a 1962 book by Leo Riemens and K. J. Kutsch entitled - A Concise Biographical Dictionary of Singers. For a long time it was a standard reference work. As you go through it page after page you read about how many died at the hands of the Nazis.
Aleksander Żabczyński was a very handsome Polish gentleman who wss too young to die. I can certainly understand why he was so popular with the Polish ladies.
The actress with him looks a little like Loretta Young and that Morske Oko Cabaret sounds like another hot club I missed out on. SIGH!!!!

It has become a 4 volumes "Sängerlexicon" in the 1990's and I know there's a new edition
The 1962 edition is the only one in English all the others are in German. The bible for opera & song collectors. I paid mine 400 euro in the 90's.

What a life story Zabczynski has, the post war part shared by many in eastern Europe where the Nazi boot stomped.

I am not sure to whom your comment was referred, anyway take it as a sort of explanation.

Doubled thanks ?... I am surprised.
There was no arguing (from my party) here, P.

Nothing more, nothing less.

There are several used copies on Amazon, two at reasonable prices. The bios are quite brief but there are many obscure singers included.

Its obvious from some of the questions posed in the comments that many viewers don't even bother to read the descriptions!

I recognize my "unique" record !

Catchy tune and a handsome singer with a fine voice. Spirited H. Gold orchestration. What a biography, and such a sad ending.

What a life! Yet the melody sounds cheerful, even romantic. Glad Nadine and the bon-vivants had such fun in those darkening days.
