this is a great song, but what is this actually about? I normally can tell what she is singing about, I am a fan of her and Alanis and I never have a problem figuring out their lyrics, but this one sort of puzzles me

its about Anastasia and Anna Anderson. Tori had once this dream, wenn she was sick and had fever, that Anderson came to her and said, yes, I am Anastasia, many words and sentences in the song are from that dream and since then Tori believes that Anderson was Anastasia. Thats, what I have read about the song. Excuse my english :)

Well, Tori believes it, yes... Because Tori when she was that sick was very near to the place in Virginia (?) where Anderson lived and died.

Tori related this story in early 94, I'm not sure she really did believe that Anna was Anastasia, she was very aware she was hallucinating with the fever she took having eaten some crab that were off, and was studying the life of Anastasia at the time, as she often researches historical figures/events for inspiration. Probably that contributed to her vision/dream at that point

quite possibly, I just remember watching the interview with her after the release of Under The Pink where she explained this story, and she was laughing about it, that gave me the impression she thought it was all a bit ridiculous, but I think it's hard to know with Tori! I've followed her career since late '91 and she never ceases to amaze/confuse me!
