Just came from block island about 3 hours ago. Its my birthday today and what a beautiful day it was. Rented some mopeds and explored the entire island with my girlfriend. We pretty much had the entire island to ourselves. Didn't bump into one person on any of the trails since its early in the season. Smoked a fat doobie filled with some hashberry on the bluffs and had a nice lunch. My only advice is If you really want to enjoy this Island go now before it gets crazy with tourists.

Too bad its become a "playground" for the rich and famous, I live in Scotland but my relatives on my mothers side all live on or near Block island, we try to go as often as we can and i always felt block island was a great "secret place" to go, but rich people have come and constructed all over some really nice and secluded places on the island.

There is a Boy Scout site on the island - near the airport. I would recommend any troop to reserve it. It's an awesome trip. Rent bikes and rome the island for a weekend.

I 100% agree with mw017584. I have been going every year to Block Island since 1989 and hope it does not become overpopulated. Funny how these things never show Ballards. Ha ha ha!

i go to block island every year, and it's honestly my favorite place to be, i would choose it over anywhere else. And like many, i hope it doesn't become over populated and developed because that lack of all that is what gives it it's charm.

the rich and famous quote is a little nuts, my family has been renting out a house right near the North Light on Corn Neck Road for about 21 years and it has changed so much! I remember when there were almost no tourists, those were the days!

I agree with Deanizen...hope BI doesn't get ruined by development. I've been going there since I was a kid and it was always a great "secret"...Playground for the rich and famous? Hardly...and I hope it never becomes that.

This makes me so sad. Block Island has been discovered and the barbarians, the "rich and famous" are at the gate to overdevelop block island like they have the cape, the vinyard, the hamptons, nantucket and the rest of the atlantic coast from the chesapeake to portland...how very sad
