I respect both players but there's a lack of solo respect when Joel smith takes his solo.....and 2 the dude who said bubby killed Joel smith, ummmmm lol....do u even know what your talking about?? Do u know bass concepts??? Lol....
Lawd have mercy listen to this riff Bubby plays from 5:24 - 5:30.. This kid is insane. Big Up to Joel Smith. Love everything Joel does from the way back till now. He's a true bass player, and he's sick on the drums.
Not only is Bubby a great bass player but he has the respect required to become one of the future godfathers of the bass. Music aint a competition. Everybody got something to say.
wat is that raking techneiqe dat u use in this vid at 1:45. u use it often and very well. how did u develop it and like wat ntes do u hit. its all a blur to me lol.
well not necessarily....its actually just a way to hit notes that you hear faster than using your index and middle finger....Sweep Picking... most people think its just arpeggios but its really just a way to play certain things faster
mike tobias is one darn lucky guy to hve some of the best bass players dat at least iv heard endorsing his stuff, E.G. robert lewis, tim rawbiz, justin raines, ETC
and both godfathers of bass gouche and joel smith.
one day i will get to these plz level and i will b at namm jammin with dem.
lol i will b on levels of ppl like robert / rafiki by den and they will b like da joel smith or andrew gouche by den.
wats a gud slap and pop bass. along with a nice groove sound to it when i do chording? do i have to have to separate basses or can i get one that has a mixture of both? rite now i have an ibanez sr505. anyone can help me out?
I guess I should have been more descriptive of the situation under which this footage was shot. It is NAMM and every musical instrument manufacturer in the civilized world is here demonstrating what his/her instruments do in order to generate sale of said instrument to the dealers (small or large) that roam the isles at the convention center where it is held.
The NAMM show floor is a brutal environment (sound wise) because of the sheer number of exhibitor and demonstrators (The SOUND POLICE roam the floor issuing "tickets" that can be trouble if you own the booth receiving said ticket.
My point being, it is not anywhere near a great place for playing and 2 basses playing only makes it harder but players like Joel and Bubby really can keep a crowd... What Bubby said about it being a Jam Session is absolutely spot on.
BTW I spent the better part of 25 years as a NAMM show demonstrator and hardly ever play at the show anymore. I have a problem with all the sound levels and can't concentrate on playing unless it is in a sound proof booth.
it is though. only so much noise you can take!! haha. it's a cool place in the end. I'm going to the one this summer in Nashville! Also have one in L.A.!
hey cuz kwit hattin on folks...this a jam session lol what do u do for a livin huh...sit on youtube and comment on folks video's to try make people think that u r a musical genius...learn to appreciate everybody and all music and maybe you can learn somethin about being humble...u can hate on me but dont hate on joel smith he's one of the kings...
Ah man I think I was probs a bit harsh. I think it's frickin cool actually. The problem I think with youtube is that videos can be posted totally out of context, it's kind of a sporadic thing, youtube. It would make more sense being there if you see what I mean?
no im not joel is a legend...lol this is just a jam session not a battle,...joel is one of the greatest of all time...jam session are not battles or seeyin who's chopin the other persons head off..its all about expression from the heart...
i think wat everybody keeps saying about this vid can be summed up something like this; Bubby is young. very excited, likes to play, and play alot, and straight rip. Joel is older, has had his share of ripping, and is willing to let a young grasshopper play with him as he sits in the cut and supports.
Bubby is playing alot louder than Joel Smith during Joel's solo and also kind of stepping on Joel Smith's toes during Joel's solo. Joel played in a way that allowed you to hear all of Bubby's improvisation. I couldn't actually hear Joel Smith's solo. Is it just the recording or is Bubby like three times louder than Joel Smith here and also taking wide solo bursts over the solo that he is supporting?
They are both nasty players. But come on... Joel smith just sittin on the groove when Young brotha is playin, then as soon as a crowd shows and Joel takes his Solo Bubby's just tryin to steal the show.
hey whats up man this is bubby just writn to try and make a friend...this was at NAMM show..its impossible to steel the show from joel smith..lol also you would maybe feel better if you herd the whole jam session...trust me man a crowed dosn't faze me i dont even pay attention to the crowds..i hope that we can become friend other than havin stuff bad to say about each other...we do this kinda stuff every year man maybe we can jam out some day..take care bro
@RobertBubbyLewis Hey Bubby! This is Dwayne Livingstone. You're a friend of mine on facebook!Trust me Bubby!!!You can't get away from people like this!!!They'll hate you for doing the work to become exceptional!!!!Bwoy I really don't understand people bro but that's just the way it is.Keep doin' your thing man!!!We're still listening!!Nuff Respect to you and Joel man!!!
i know bubby is a berklee cat. i cant wait till i get there next year. ima be learnin all that ish. joel..... you are a legend for a reason. why is robert eatin up joel solo towards the end? this vid is sick
DANG....... Bubby and Joel are killin. This guy bubby is a BEAST. He be doing some crazy stuff. He sweetpics on on the bass, who in the world would think of something like that. And The Legend Joel Smith, he has some of the most beautiful cords I ever heard. Ya'll sound good. I'm gone get there one day. And them Basses are TIGHT. Mike Tobias you are a genius.
I respect both players but there's a lack of solo respect when Joel smith takes his solo.....and 2 the dude who said bubby killed Joel smith, ummmmm lol....do u even know what your talking about?? Do u know bass concepts??? Lol....

Doesn't hook you in with the eloquent, wizard-like melodicism like that of a Jaco Pastorious or Paul Chambers solo. Where's the melody?
