Where do I find the song "Smile" that they performed in Sgt Pepper Live featuring Cheap Trick? I loved that song and thought it was one of their new ones.
The best thing to come out of 09. The fact that this was not all over the place with regards to radio TV and the like illustrates how badly the music industry is broken
@themadhacker2 8 tracks are cool I gotta pretty sweet 8 track player too York Radio Corporation a nice one (Not Portable) I got this one for sure on 8 track!!
And the introduction for Cheap Trick at the concert was awesome. It was some woman's voice that was like, "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage the best fucking rock band ever: CHEAP TRICK!"
You're so right. Cheap Trick is OUTRAGEOUSLY fantastic, as always. Zander sounds like he's still 20 years old, Bun E. is still the baddest back beat man alive, Rick is the icon as always, and Tom is such a fantastic "lead" bass player. Good lord, I am going out to buy this album tomorrow!!!!!!
Cheap trick is the best band everand this song is amazing pure Cheap Trick. New work but any cheaptrick fan could have picked that as theirwork and Robin's singing
I will never understand why they dont get the airtime and homors they deserve. There are so many newer bands that list them as a major influence and I know plenty of people of different age groups that love cheap Trick
Just got the CD Saturday - the entire CD is excellent from start to finish. Of course the Nashville show was canceled. Hopefully will be rescheduled soon - preferably without Def Leppard
I saw them in Saratoga Springs, NY this summer, and Cheap Trick kicked Poison and Def Leppard's ass! It was kind of shocking in the first place to hear that Cheap Trick, one of the greatest American rock bands in the history of music, touring with Def Leppard-who recently went country-and Poison, who at least thinks they are still popular. I can remember seeing Cheap Trick open up for KISS on their "Rock and Roll Over" tour in 1977, and it's still holds up as the greatest concert I've ever seen.
I just picked up my copy of The Latest at my local record store. What can I say? This is a seriously great album! It's incredible that four guys can stay in this fine of form for going on 4 decades and continue to prove that Rock n Roll and great music has not died. I've been listening to CT since 1979. I can't believe the effect their music still has on me. I'm 46 years old. The pop acts of today can take a lesson for sure. And don't even get me going on the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame...
Funny you say that...half the songs on the new album sound very "Jeff Lynne influenced." I had to check the credits to see if he was involved...he's not. Great album by the way.

Gad to see that they are still Rockin it out! I had a thing for Rick and his goof ball ways. tee-heeI loved that classic black and white check.gets me thinking of a custom painted pole idea. Hmmmm... ; - )
and btw, I've been a very nit-picky loving fan for 25 years. In all that time I've never bought a single CT album where I thought every song on it was quality. There would always be one or two(or more) songs that I felt didn't belong there for one reason or another. Two albums came close: Standing on the Edge and the '97 album. The Latest is the first album, for me,since Dream Police that I've liked straight through. They've really impressed me with their growth.
Question for you? The Slade cover of When the lights are out: Is it tru it's the original 1970's song, because Robin sounds like he's 19 over again. and thanks for the heads up on the new cd. I played the heck out of "Oh Claire" from Rockford
I don't know myself. Production-wise it sounds like it was just recorded but I've heard conflicting reports. I wish the band would fess up. Doesn't matter to me cause I'm just glad to have the song!
Robin Zander's vocals have taken a beating, but the band as a whole still sounds great. Thye cd was released today in the U.s. If it's anything like Rockford then I'm I'm preordering.
This voice is Robin's "screamer" voice. Obviously his voice has deepened and roughed up a bit with age but what he does with his vocals will surprise you on The Latest.
This album is not like Rockford. It's more like a lost Beatles album. There are fast rockers, slow rockers, ballads....a real mix that forms a powerful whole. It needs to be listened to as a whole for awhile to let it sink in. Rockford was arguably a more "fun" record but this new one is more mature. I hope you enjoy it.
i absolutely love how all these bands are coming back and bands like def leppard, whitesnake, cheaptrick made quite the comeback, (even though def leppard hasnt stopped making albums) this is great!
Love what Cheap Trick is doing too! They never stopped making incredible albums, touring, and reeking rock'n roll havoc. One of their sayings is, 'On Tour Since '74.' They took some punches over the years, but there is no keeping these guys down! Trick Rocks!!
Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, this is the best fuckin' band to ever play in your town for the past 35 years. This only proves it. Thank you and goodnight!
WTF? Cheap Trick rocking on u-tube and people are discussing Micheal Jackson in the text comments?? People are really messed up......he's gone, we all go there at some point lets move on. New Cheap Trick, it awesome to see these guys still in the game!
Cheap trick rock!!!!! Michael???? Are you kidding me. 35+ years and they are completely so relevant. Jonas Bros, learn something from Robin and the Boyz........Sick Man of Europe.. Awesome
One last thing, The Rock & Roll HOF sucks. No Rush or CT? Listen to this and consider rock and roll affirmation for 35 years +of kick ass rock/alternative music. W/o CT, you would've had a shittier version of Nirvana that we all love and miss....
Agree 100%. Bands like Nirvana, STP, Smashing Pumpkins, etc have always remarked about Cheap Trick's talent. I consider Cheap Trick to be the quintessential American Alternative band where it is about kicking ass playing live shows vs kissing media ass to sell product for executives.
CT is coming to St.Louis later this month too bad Def Lep and Poison are there also. CT should headline over these dopes. Hope they play this song. This song is killer.
And another thing......If the Rock Hall of Fame doesn't want them, how about the VH-1 Rock Honors? They are definitely due for recognition there at least. C'mon VH-1...
The Latest is so amazing. Really rich. And the slower songs are complex and interesting....not really ballads like we're familiar with. I'm listening right now to "California Girl"(one of my favorites....so much fun...needs to be blasted!) This is the first CT album I've enjoyed from start to finish for a long long time. It needs to be listened to as a whole.
Sorry, but I am not familiar with ballads by Cheap Trick. Yeah they have done them in the past, but I am more familiar with them doing songs like Decaf, Baby No More, The Ballad of Tv Violence, Auf Weidrshen, Give It Away, Best Friend, Anytime, none of which are ballads. Cheap Trick is not a ballad band. This song represents there real sound. They are a real honest to goodness rock band with a great darker edge that sadly noone seems to know about
I also have to say that as a long time fan I've never viewed Cheap Trick as any kind of standard band. For me they are as defined by "Heaven Tonight" and "Mandocello" and "Shelter" as they are "Surrender". They are also defined by experiments like "High Priest of Rhythmic Noise" and "3-D". Keeping up with CT has been a test of endurance for sure! But also far more interesting than I would imagine being a fan of say AC/DC has been (a band whose most intersting work was with Bon Scott, imo).
has anybody noticed that CT has sort of repeated history. On the first album there was a song about serial killer Richard Speck entitled "The Ballad of T.V. Violence" and on "The Latest" there is a song about the "Crazy Love" case where Burt Pugach hired some thugs to throw lye in the face of Linda because she apparently didn't want him. In my opinion "Closer" is not only the best song on the new album, but who else but CT could do such a beautiful song about something so bad?!
From what I read on the message boards on Trick's website, Amazon sent out CDRs. It was not Trick's doing and they are looking into it. I got my copy of the 'Latest' off Trick's website and it looks fine. If people don't like what Amazon sent out, I think they can return it and get their money back, then buy the product elsewhere.
To matthews257: The irony of your comment is this song is a FRIGGIN' POWER POP CLASSIC! "The Latest" is the BEST CT album in 30 years! I should know because that is how long I've been a CT fan.
Maybe the song does not appeal to you and that's ok...not every song can please everyone but, it's not fair to say the song is not great when most people on this site and others, say it's a great song, not to mention, it's got great reviews from critics.
Dude, he can say whatever he wants. So if he is in the minority does not matter. I love the song. Never be afraid to cut against the grain because everyone else likes something. That kind of thinking is lame. Be your own person
Not sure what your saying? And if you're calling me a dude, I'm a dudette. Everyone should have their own mind. That is not what I'm saying. I'm saying, it's not fair to say the song is not great, when it is...maybe it just does not appeal to you. There is a big difference.
I love the song. What I am saying to you if someone does not like it and that is their opinion then yes it is fair for them to say it. You think it is great, as do I, but not everyone will think so.You are basically saying it ok for them to have their own mind but to not use it unless it is something you agree with, ha. If I am wrong about this, please tell me where I am wrong
I'll try to say it different. While it is important for the listener to be honest about what he likes/dislikes...it's not fair to disrespect art/artists. Art/artists get a lot of unfair criticism...And that is putting it mildly. Many times, the art is great, but the critic did not get it, or the art does not appeal to the critic. It's OK if a song does not appeal to you, to each his own, but it's not fair to say the song is not great, when maybe it is. (1 of 2)
Ok, there a lot of people who think what Michael Jackson did was great. To me though it just sounded like disposable pop music. So what you are saying is that since a huge majority thinks Michael Jackson's music was great, I should just fall into line and agree with them because they are the majority, even when i don't believe it. What you and I think is great, to someone else it might just be noise. To force them to say something is great because you think it is great is wrong
LMAOOOO!! BELIEVE ME, I would NEVER tell you to think MJ is great! And would not ever try to force anyone to think MJ is great, lol. What I'm saying has more to do with balance between between art and criticism.
(2 of 2) While I think, we need to respect each other's views...I also think, art/artists deserve respect too. I think, it makes more sense to say, the song does not appeal to me, rather than, the song is not great because, that first statement respects individual taste/choice and art. The second statement does not do art justice. Think about it for a while and message me, if you want to talk more about this. :)
Just googled 'Burt and Linda'....Burt and Linda Pugach came up. So did the story of their 'Crazy Love.' Out of jealousy, Burt arranged for some men to kill Linda. She lived after the attack but lost her sight. He went to jail. They married after he was released. Now seeing lots of motifs on this CD that fit with this story...Death, blind, eyes, light, heaven and more. Hmmm
Got my copy of 'The Latest' and can't stop listening to it! Robin's voice is celestial liquid gold, when it's not making plutonium look wimpy. Bun E.'s drumming is exciting and brilliant, as always. Rick and Tom's guitars fire out blazing musical nirvana. Kudos to the production that let's the band shine. Love all the songs. Can't decide on a fav...it changes every hour. This is REAL music, fierce rockers, moving ballads, awesome hooks, with wit and fun tossed in the mix.
This band never ages. They still kick ass like they just grew their pubes. I only listened to the album once so far, and I love it. Very "Beatley" at times, but that's what they do. I can't wait to see the show in July. The t- shirt rocks, too! Forever one of my favorite bands.
thanks kevincooldaddy. "Rockford" was indeed great...and promised great things. Fuck the critics. They wrote 'em off back in 1981. For most of the 80s and 90s they did what they were told. "The Latest" clearly shows they are right back on track and THEY are calling the shots. I absol-fucking-lutely salute Rick, Robin, Tom and Bun E.
"Rockford" came close but the material was still too inconsistant. But here comes THE LATEST.. and what a cd this is. THIS IS THE ALBUM GEORGE MARTIN SHOULD HAVE PRODUCED INSTEAD OF "ALL SHOOK UP" IN 1980. The combination of fantastic material, superb production and arrangements and Robin's FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE VOCALS = THEIR BEST RELEASE SINCE "DREAM POLICE"....!!!
You pretty much nailed it. I still think Rockford was unbelievably good, but this new one..it transcends everything. I just hope that this get's them the much needed recognition they deserve. Bonnie Raitt won a shit load of grammies for a boring cd. I only hope someone in the music industry can champion this cd and get it that kind of recognition. The Latest is that good and that special. And to think this was a band that the major labels cast off as being washed up.
Only problem with this song is that it's half as long as it should be, I sure hope they stretch this out in concert, which they played last nite on the opening show of the tour along with another new song off The Latest - These Days
Well poopies, 'The Latest' didn't come in the mail today. Or maybe it did and and and someone STOLE it!! Probably the mailman, after he listened to it. Hope the dream police tell him to return it to me.
AAAaaaggGGHHH!! It's 3:30 pm and NO mailman yet! Why is he torturing me?!?!! Guess I'm last on his rout today...boo hoo. So, jelous of all the people who got thier copy of 'The Latest,' already! Maybe the mailman gave my CD a listen and can't put it down?
I just finished listening to the whole album and my first impression is WOW. Working on Sgt.Pepper must've really lit a fire under these guys cause The Latest feels like a lost Beatles album(sort of). The fast rockers are all cool, the mid-tempo songs are insanely rich, and the ballads aren't really ballads per se. They're more like trippy mini operas or something. It's hard to describe. There's something for every mood on this disc.
What is wrong with UUUUUUUUU! They sound phenominal...the press and comments on web-sites agree. The only kicking of the booty that needs to be done, is on yours.
ho ho ho. CT sounds like the fighters??!!!!!! OMG...You're the moron of the century

Thundering, rocking Cheap Trick!Speaking of "thundering," dig Tom Petersson's 12 string bass; it's positively "Entwistlian."
Entwistilian
adjective
1. belonging, referring, or pertaining to the great Who bassist John Entwistle.

Cheap trick completely kick ass.... When is this album cutting?
Amanda0618pos 2 years ago
WTF? Cheap Trick rocking on u-tube and people are discussing Micheal Jackson in the text comments?? People are really messed up......he's gone, we all go there at some point lets move on. New Cheap Trick, it awesome to see these guys still in the game!
macadoo1961 2 years ago
Cheap trick rock!!!!! Michael???? Are you kidding me. 35+ years and they are completely so relevant. Jonas Bros, learn something from Robin and the Boyz........Sick Man of Europe.. Awesome
Amanda0618pos 2 years ago
One last thing, The Rock & Roll HOF sucks. No Rush or CT? Listen to this and consider rock and roll affirmation for 35 years +of kick ass rock/alternative music. W/o CT, you would've had a shittier version of Nirvana that we all love and miss....
Amanda0618pos 2 years ago 2

XxWildCombatxX 2 years ago
The Latest is so amazing. Really rich. And the slower songs are complex and interesting....not really ballads like we're familiar with. I'm listening right now to "California Girl"(one of my favorites....so much fun...needs to be blasted!) This is the first CT album I've enjoyed from start to finish for a long long time. It needs to be listened to as a whole.
gdwme 2 years ago
Sorry, but I am not familiar with ballads by Cheap Trick. Yeah they have done them in the past, but I am more familiar with them doing songs like Decaf, Baby No More, The Ballad of Tv Violence, Auf Weidrshen, Give It Away, Best Friend, Anytime, none of which are ballads. Cheap Trick is not a ballad band. This song represents there real sound. They are a real honest to goodness rock band with a great darker edge that sadly noone seems to know about
kevinocooldaddy 2 years ago
I also have to say that as a long time fan I've never viewed Cheap Trick as any kind of standard band. For me they are as defined by "Heaven Tonight" and "Mandocello" and "Shelter" as they are "Surrender". They are also defined by experiments like "High Priest of Rhythmic Noise" and "3-D". Keeping up with CT has been a test of endurance for sure! But also far more interesting than I would imagine being a fan of say AC/DC has been (a band whose most intersting work was with Bon Scott, imo).
gdwme 2 years ago
has anybody noticed that CT has sort of repeated history.

A lot of people on Amazon are saying that this cd is only being released as a CDR. Any truth to this??
Taffypro 2 years ago
From what I read on the message boards on Trick's website, Amazon sent out CDRs. It was not Trick's doing and they are looking into it. I got my copy of the 'Latest' off Trick's website and it looks fine. If people don't like what Amazon sent out, I think they can return it and get their money back, then buy the product elsewhere.

To matthews257: The irony of your comment is this song is a FRIGGIN' POWER POP CLASSIC! "The Latest" is the BEST CT album in 30 years! I should know because that is how long I've been a CT fan.

im sorry to say this especially to the greatest band ever but this song is just not that great
matthews257 2 years ago
Maybe the song does not appeal to you and that's ok...not every song can please everyone but, it's not fair to say the song is not great when most people on this site and others, say it's a great song, not to mention, it's got great reviews from critics.
sunsetbeachmuz 2 years ago
every CT album has been amazing including the doctor that got a bad rating from critics this is one of the very few CT songs i dislike

There is a big difference.
sunsetbeachmuz 2 years ago
I love the song. What I am saying to you if someone does not like it and that is their opinion then yes it is fair for them to say it. You think it is great, as do I, but not everyone will think so.You are basically saying it ok for them to have their own mind but to not use it unless it is something you agree with, ha. If I am wrong about this, please tell me where I am wrong
kevinocooldaddy 2 years ago
I'll try to say it different. While it is important for the listener to be honest about what he likes/dislikes...it's not fair to disrespect art/artists. Art/artists get a lot of unfair criticism...And that is putting it mildly. Many times, the art is great, but the critic did not get it, or the art does not appeal to the critic. It's OK if a song does not appeal to you, to each his own, but it's not fair to say the song is not great, when maybe it is. (1 of 2)
sunsetbeachmuz 2 years ago
Ok, there a lot of people who think what Michael Jackson did was great. To me though it just sounded like disposable pop music. So what you are saying is that since a huge majority thinks Michael Jackson's music was great, I should just fall into line and agree with them because they are the majority, even when i don't believe it. What you and I think is great, to someone else it might just be noise. To force them to say something is great because you think it is great is wrong
kevinocooldaddy 2 years ago
LMAOOOO!! BELIEVE ME, I would NEVER tell you to think MJ is great! And would not ever try to force anyone to think MJ is great, lol. What I'm saying has more to do with balance between between art and criticism.
sunsetbeachmuz 2 years ago

Forever one of my favorite bands.
cherubini 2 years ago
thanks kevincooldaddy.

The combination of fantastic material, superb production and arrangements and Robin's FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE VOCALS = THEIR BEST RELEASE SINCE "DREAM POLICE"....!!!
bobbyvox 2 years ago
You pretty much nailed it. I still think Rockford was unbelievably good, but this new one..it transcends everything. I just hope that this get's them the much needed recognition they deserve. Bonnie Raitt won a shit load of grammies for a boring cd. I only hope someone in the music industry can champion this cd and get it that kind of recognition. The Latest is that good and that special. And to think this was a band that the major labels cast off as being washed up.
kevinocooldaddy 2 years ago
Only problem with this song is that it's half as long as it should be, I sure hope they stretch this out in concert, which they played last nite on the opening show of the tour along with another new song off The Latest - These Days

This album is also a testament to Robin Zander, who deserves some kind of award for his work here.
gdwme 2 years ago
I just finished listening to the whole album and my first impression is WOW. Working on Sgt.Pepper must've really lit a fire under these guys cause The Latest feels like a lost Beatles album(sort of). The fast rockers are all cool, the mid-tempo songs are insanely rich, and the ballads aren't really ballads per se. They're more like trippy mini operas or something. It's hard to describe. There's something for every mood on this disc.
