  • This is the part of star trek that makes me bust into tears

  • OH THE DRAMA

  • Considering you went through all the trouble to seek some "problem" with my post, I think the over-inflation problem is yours.

  • At 5:30 is that clip not from V for Vendetta? The pile of naked bodies in the pit.. i notice that you managed to slip a very visible naked breast and nipple passed the sensors.. and the image is fitting.. but i confess mixing the 2 shows weakens them both. Was not the Cardassian occupation of Bajor bad enough as it stood on its own?

  • The Bajorans a bunch of over-religious snivelling crybabies that were harassed by a militant next-door civilization and trample each other race´s nerves for wanting to know about it??

Now what does this remind me on f*cking Earth???

  • is the audio track from schindler's list?

  • @whiteknight01 yep.....

  • The bajorans deserved it, they were all a bunch of religious assholes.

Also Cardassians were always way more entertaining to watch!

  • @Archedgar I think you mean, "Sieg HEIL!"

  • @Gripfang For Cardassia!

The Bajorans were terrible characters, they should have welcomed the Bajoran Occupation.

  • Picard= They were architects and artists, and builders and pjhilosophers. When humans were not yet standing erect.

Vigo894= Well, we hadn't found the right woman yet Picard.

  • 9 people are cardassians.

  • @mrorville1 I can't stand the Bajorans either. Smug, self-righteous, hypocritical fundamentalist bores. They're too much like some of the worst people on this planet.

  • what an wonderful video comp thank you

  • Duet tears me apart

  • SPACE JEWS !!!!!!!!!!

  • @MINIHermanator The space oppressed.

  • Duet was one of the only episodes where they "punished", or went after cardies who committed war crimes......

  • This video makes the hair on my arms stand up. Great compilation

  • Even after all this time, I still feel remorse and sadness for both the Bajorans AND the Cardassians. The Bajorans for the hell that they endured during the occupation and for the Cardassians for how low they felt that they had to sink to survive....

I can't begin to imagine how the Federation resisted the urge to go in and liberate Bajor from the Cardassians, many Fed citizens probably urged their leaders to do something about the situation there....

  • @girlgarde They hinted at that on TNG when the Bajorans described the Federation as "innocent bystanders while we died" and when the Marquis was formed by dissident Federation citizens to fight the Cardassians.

  • This gave me some serious goose-bumps! Very good video, except for the music. I don't mind Schindler's List, but it's a little too loud, I can sometimes hardly hear the dialogue.

  • check out maria bamfords Bajoran impression on the bob and tom show , title star trek , insanely funny

  • 9 Cardassians disliked this video.

Nothing justifies those sorts of crimes: slavery, torture, infanticide, genocide the list goes on. And of course, the worst crime; the people who stood by and let it happen, especially those who let it happen to their own people; each and every Bajoran who refused to join the resistance should have been tried and found guilty as collaberators, then executed as just punishment.

  • I've always seen the Cardassians that have heavy guilt and shame over what they did the most powerful characters

  • Too bad the bajorans didn't go extinct...

  • I personally agree with Gul Dukat. He should have finished the job before the 2369 for once and for all.

Should have turned Bajor into a planetary-wide graveyard, to quote as he said, to the likes of which this universe has not seen. But before that, make the Bajorans strip mine every ounce of resource that Bajor has first.

Maximum Labor Utilization, with genocide as a reward.

  • @Omithy THAT is why i hate spoonheads so much.

  • @dernhelmrs I love them.

  • @dernhelmrs how can ANYONE to love those blood-thirsty redneck savage's(they are too much like us,Human's),is beyond me.I preferr Bajorans, specially Major Kira, she's so hot and determined to destory that spooonhead vermin off of her planet .

  • @desiredoceania Obviously you have more of an axe to grind than I do. You've resorted to insults.

  • "Nothing justifies genocide!"

The dead will still be dead.

    The culture's still destroyed.

The language is still almost a dead language.

    The people are still changed.

    And we let it happen.

  • @wlanus "It's easy for us to criticize the Cardassians for their actions. I doubt we would be so sure of ourselves if we were starving and dying of disease. "

    the Cardassians description was

    -people starved by the millions

    -disease was rampant

on a worldwide scale that is the condition of earth right now(and throughout history), but we still didn´t establish a world military dictatorship

  • I love cardassians

  • 50 years of occupation and only 10 million Bajorans died? Acts of genocide occurred in the occupation, but, on the whole, this is nothing compared to, say, the 11-17 million Jews and others murdered during the short time that Germany occupied portions of Europe. Still, very sad, and telling, though.

  • @LeighAurora According to the Jewish Virtual Library - History of the Holocaust, the actual number of Jewish people that were killed by Germany during World War II is written as "between five and seven million killed." The offical decision at the Nuremberg Trials was 6 million. Even ONE death based on such a stupid concept as inferior / superior race is a horrible crime.. but i do not see your point in claiming 11-17 million? Inflating the numbers does nothing productive.

  • Cardassians are fools.

  • @LeighAurora no,they are scum.

  • They always get the best actors to play Cardassians: Marc Alaimo, Andrew Robinson, Harris Yulin... They act through the makeup and command the screen.

  • great video well put together

  • i always hated spoonheads, just as much i loved Bajorans mostly becouse Kai Oppaka and Kira Neris, she's one tough girl....not whiner...

  • This is GREAT!!!! The Cardassians and the Musik from "Schindlers List"! I always thought the Cardassians reminded me of my people, of the German People...

  • @Tilantelcontar

You are just another guilt brainwashed German letting his people go extinct. Pathetic how you won't even take what is yours. Made into a weak mindless faggot by Jewish controlled media, paying out billions to Israel.

  • @bmays002 Wow, spoken like a true anti-Semite. No doubt you start every conversation with the words "I'm not racist, but....". Also, I've noticed that the weak mindless faggots are the racists who blame everyone else for their problems, & who listen to propaganda rather than thinking for themselves-all of which describes *you* perfectly.

  • @MrHicks091

You don't know me, but i know you. Your represent the mindless masses who willingly let their superior genetics be washed away by the tides of non-whites.

Truly a crime against nature, is this how you thank nature for making you the best? You defy natures eternal religion.

  • @bmays002 Nah, I reckon I've got a pretty good handle on you. You're either being completely sarcastic or, more likely, you're a complete failure in life who prefers to blame his/her failure on others, rather than accept responsibility for yourself. This, of course, then makes you highly susceptible to political leaders who reinforce your delusions that all your problems are the fault of someone else.

  • @MrHicks091

Humans function best as a society. History has shown societies based on racial and national unity are the strongest societies. The only way i can fail as an individual is lying down and letting society fall apart in the name of multiculturalism.

  • @bmays002 Nature's eternal religion? Nature HAS no religion, Nature just is. Your silly and ignorant white supremacy crap fails on so many levels. Whites are no better or worse than any other race. All races have nobility and douchebaggery among their ranks, and there is no uniform superiority. Some black folks are better natural athletes than many white folks, but not all. But by your logic THEY'RE genertically superior because some are. that's the flaw in your logic; there IS no logic.

  • @bmays002 So let's compare.

Whites; For every Susan B Anthony there's a Janice Raymond. For every Ellen Degeneres there's a Maggie Gallagher. For every Jon Stewart there's a Rush Limbaugh.

Blacks - For every OJ Simpson there's a Micheal Jordan. FRor every Flava Flav there's a Will Smith. For every Regina King there's a Maya Angelou.

The lesson? In every race there are truly great and wonderful people, and there are repugnant wastes of breath best mocked or ignored. Guess where you fall?

  • @Purrrple

And this grand theory of yours is backed up by?? It is backed up by your imagination of a fantasy world where everyone is the equal, good always beats evil, and fighting is wrong. Unfortunately such a world does not exist and never will exist.

Natures eternal religion refers to what i speak of above. If you want to know more read the book by Ben Klassen.

Glen Beck, O'Reilly, and Limbach serve a purpose. They are controlled opposition. Get out of line like Lou Dobbs, they're gone.

  • @bmays002 No, sorry, my "opinion" is backed up by objective reality, something you are very clearly completely out of touch with.

  • @MrHicks091 The burning irony of someone using the word faggot while railing against bigotry is melting my brain. Good job there Falwell.

  • @bmays002 Really, use that clearly tiny brain of yours for a moment. If the media was really controlled by some big Jewish conspiracy, Glen Beck and Bill O'Reilly would be out of a job. That's just one of the multitudes of paranoid lies racists tell themselves to feel like they're superior to someone and hide from there own insecurity. Grow up. White people are nor better or worse than any other race. It has great people and worthless assholes in the mix just like every other race.

  • bravo, after 4 years on youtube, bravo

  • what was the music? loved it

  • @TheForeverready The background music is from the Schindler's List.

  • (contd.). The Nazis looked on the Slavs as slaves and subhuman, and wanted to keep them ignorant. Whereas the Jews simply had no right to exist whatsoever. The DS9 storyline showed the Cardassians as harsh occupiers and oppressors of Bajor, but it was NOT extermination. I know that the difference is only a relative difference of evil. But you should not misinterpret the DS9 story line.

  • @farmerne Some Cardassians, such as Dukat, felt that the Bajorans were an inferior race. Perhaps this could also be linked to the British occupation of certain countries such as India, where the native population was forcibly subdued and made to work towards building the Empire. The English will often deny it but life under British occupation (especially if your ancestors were not of European origin) was harsh, and many died as a result.

  • @randomsamno9 "The English will often deny it". Speak for yourself, I am English and I am more than aware of the suffering the Empire caused as are most of us. We don't talk about it out of shame that our ancestors allowed such atrocities as international slavery, starvation, brutal military rule and yes mass murder/genocide. There are few among us (racist groups such as the BNP) who would refuse a chance to undo those things but such an oppertunity is not forthcoming.

  • This is a well done video. Thanks for posting. However it is a mistake to compare the Cardassian occupation of Bajor to the Jewish Holocaust. The way it was presented in DS9, was more similar to the Japanese subjection of Korea. Or the Nazi subjegation of the Slavs. The Cardassians wanted to exploit the Bajorans and their planet, reduce them to virtual slaves, eliminate their culture, harsh repression of Bajoran identity. But their policy was NOT extermination. (contd.)

  • I always thought that Deep Space Nine was an underrated sci-fi program. It explored some VERY provacative issues and in many ways was superior to Next Generation and the other spin-offs, which focused excessively on space battles and cartoon aliens.

  • Bajor is just the fictionalized version of how the true Holocaust in places like Auschwitz were like. Even some of the former guards in those camps were never the same after they realized what they did was wrong, no one wins in the end, thats the whole point to this vid. With Genocide, and mass murder, the superior or the inferior never wins...no one does...

  • Such a moving video. Do you mind if I show it to my Social Studies class? My project is on how things like the holocaust influence works of fiction, like Star Trek and this would be perfect to show what the occupation was like!

  • i love it when star trek shows us the dark side of humanity

  • You can dress a murderer in new clothes but that doesn't wash the blood off their hands, once you commit genocide it remains a dark blot on your history forever.

  • Mother of God, if they had promoted DS9 in previews and tv spots like this back in the day I would have been rapt attention.

  • Second time watching this in a year. Just as powerful as the first time.

  • I recognise the various episodes, but a good well made compilation.

  • This is the truth: My own blood is literally responsible for the military occupation of Ireland and the murder of millions o fIrish Catholics in their own country. We married into the Catholics and became Catholic...and immediately made ourselves targets of the British...who we are. We WERE socially-prominent Britsh nobility. We are NOW American Irish-Catholics, and the British half of the family looks at us like we're scum. I get this video very well.

  • @aislinn09

You believe space fantasy applies to your situation? I wish I could share the same... ataraxia when comparing actors from a script to TRUE atrocities. I suggest you separate yourself from the fiction of television and find some insight in what occurred between the Irish and British.

  • @desiredoceania Yeah, actually. Oliver Cromwell lined up 1,000 Irish Catholic NON-COMBATANT CIVILIANS and masscred them, then thanked God for the priviledge.

I can READ. I deliberately learned Irish, then British, history, so I could understand it. Still don't change the fact that the British invaded and occupied a country not their own and tried to de-exist the culture and native language of the native population. Like the Cardassians vs the Bajorans.

  • @Aislinn09

... you attribute the horrors of real life to that of a television show? You honestly don't get it?

Writers, poets, authors, comedians, liars, prophets, and the like, all stem their lives on past experience. If you honestly compare this interpretation of cruelty to something that actually happened, you completely miss the depth of true life and it's subsequent liquidation. You're an idiot, and in no way think before speaking.

It only took you 9 months to say something dumb.

  • This video doesn't have a third of the views and ratings that it should have.

  • Agreed.

  • Thank you GreatLink, for this amazing vid.

  • I second that. It's a very well made piece of work.

  • 3:00-3:12 One of the most poignant speeches I've ever heard from a Star Trek character. It's true; vengeance is hollow and empty compared to something like this. How do you equal the balance?

  • You're right there. 3:00-3:12 was one of the most powerful lines in "Duet". Itself already such a good episode.

  • I'm not sure what to say. To see all those moments strung together really makes my heart ache. Best DS9 video ever.

  • This video is so powerful. I actually started crying.

  • nothing to say but; wow

  • Wow indeed!

  • And what happened to the Cardassians? By the end of the war, the were broken, defeated and their planet devastated. Just like Nazi Germany.

  • 5:55 onward was the best part of the vid; it's smart too because it acknowledges that there is no absolute in this issue of Bajor.

Some of those scenes, like Maritza breaking down and crying, Garak raging about the Bajorans, Damar throwing alcohol at his own reflection, those little things make Cardassians more than just villains.

They were the most interesting race of all Star Trek in my opinion.

  • what did you think about the scene at 1:37 where you see Odo in Cardassian uniform standing there and watching the Cardassians execute Bajorans?

  • Comment removed

  • I was surprised: I haven't seen the episode myself.

But yes, the Cardassians were cruel, but like Jimmysteller points out, they did it out of desperation, and because it worked for them at first, they continued with it.

Some of the Cardassians though, were pretty decent people past the Bajoran issue. Like Garak and Damar. I liked them more than some of the Federation characters actually.

  • Maritza's breakdown was very moving indeed, as were his words of Cardassia needing to acknowledge what they did.

  • Yes, indeed! His breakdown at 6:30 brings me to tears every time.

  • The way the montage was done at 5:52 to 6:50, so powerful and emotional with the music. And each breakdown worse than the last.

Damar driven to drink, Garak insecure and isolated, Dukat insane, and Maritzza broken in old age. Just a powerful sequence.

  • wow..

  • Powerful..

  • Speachless

  • Its the same music from Schindlers List

  • Amazing. Great Video. I like the music, what is it?

  • That. Was. Intense.

  • Excellent! Very well done!

  • rep empires always have an excuse for there barbarity but they cant avoid there punishment

  • If he killed them all there would be no one left to tell his horrible secret, to remind him of his terrible shame.

  • Duet was one of the most amazing episodes. I've watch tons of times and it never gets old and it never loses it meaning. It always brings me to tears.

  • hed rather be darheel that way at least he wouldnt be an object of pity.

  • wow what a great video! will have to recommend it to others.

  • Very well selected scenes with some of the best acting in whole DS9, and the John Williams score from Schindler's List was an obvious but good choice indeed.

    Thumbs up!

  • The episode Duet.. with Kira and Marritza always makes me well up... thanks for vid it was good

  • It's interesting though, watching "Duet" again without this vid's music lessens the effect now.

  • dude, seriously...wow!!

you need to get an oscar for editing, this vid was ridiculous. Damn! had me crying at work like this was real tragedy. "oopopp" was right, its a damn shame more people aint seen this vid. (bowing deeply)

  • Wow, this is REALLY well done!

  • this make me cry.....

  • You know whats really sad? Thats there are so little views of this video!!

It so well made. Well I guess its good in a way. Its like our little secret that nobody knows about. Something special that only a few have witnessed.

  • "What did peace and spirituality get us? People starved by the millions...suffering was unimaginable."

"All that mattered was Cardassia! I loved my homeland. That's what justified my actions. That's what gave me strength."

Amazing video! Both for its emotional poignancy and for its moral complexity.

  • Nothing is more disturbing then watching villians like Dukat break down and try to justify what they've done

  • evil dictaters have a reason for there crimes adolf hitler khan singh colonal green cardassian government but THARE crimes have to be punished

  • to millian people and this klingons and humans weren there we are sorry bajor maquis are heros

  • An awesome video! very moving. I have to get my life in order, I will not let society do to me what the Cardassians did to the bajorians'.

  • But in the end the Cardassians got what they deserved, at the end of the war cardassia lie under starfleet ocupation, there homeworld lie in ruin from the bombardment, millons dead on Cardassia prime, there millirary in ruin, there people broken, and at the fate of the federation....a bit of justice...

  • yes 800 million deaths, millions of childeren and civillians who never had anything to do with the occupation are dead. That's what I call justice, because justice isn't about punishing the guilty no it is about punishing an entire population of whom the guilty hust happen to be members of

  • i agree, killing civis...killing those who can not shoot back is a cowerldy act, but the cardassians would of kept up the ego and pride, they would of kept destroying others, killing millons more for there "empire"... Killing 800 millon civis solves nothing, if starfleet got to cardassia first the lives could of been saved, but the cardassians lost to the domonion first, in the end they did the right thing, and paid the price for doing it, It is justice, just a twisted kind...call it irony......

  • Extraordinary. Brilliant job of presenting all sides of the Occupation and editing it together into a cohesive storyline. Reminds why I always found DS9 to be the best of the Trek series. (Did I see a brief flash of a scene from V for Vendetta?)

  • This video made me feel bad for both the Bajorans AND the Cardassians as well as how countless innocents on both sides died in the conflicts that consumed both races.

  • the Cardassians were also victims of their corrupted evil government. obviously not all cardassians were bad

  • I know, that's what I'm saying. I've always had that impression about the Cardassians, that they had leaders that sucked or had warped beliefs and priorities.

  • Cardassians lived on a harsh planet. They compromised their morals in favour of surviving. The whole issue at 3:42, "My daughter will never have to worry about going hungry". What would you do to give a good life to your children?

That's what I didn't like about Picard's answers; all he says about her 'spirit being empty' doesn't address the point. The Cardassian's daughter will live a healthy life, not having to experience the dreadful things her father lived through.

  • well it's wrong to steal food from other people's children to feed your own children.

  • I'm not saying what they did was right, I'm saying they did wrong for good intentions. If you read Machiavelli, he would have agreed with the idea that the end justifies the means. The Cardassians were very Machiavellian in this regard. It's not pleasant, but it's done for one-self's needs. Cardassians did these atrocities; rampant poverty and starvation ended, their children survived. Bitter example of end justifying the means.

And thus, they were cursed with this logic at the end of the show.

  • @TheGreatLink It certainly is wrong. Trek's philosophy is to teach us that success at the expense of others is worse than none at all & we are all connected. In a world in which the predatory mindset is abound, be it nations, corporations, banks or a broke man on the street we could all learn to wake up and heed that.

  • @TheGreatLink Good answer. I would go further and say that starvation, even with today's technology, is totally unnecessary. Modern agricultural technology is so incredibly efficient, the world could easily produce enough food to feed 10 times the current world's population, or more. I am not saying that everyone would be eating filet mignon, but even one rich individual could purchase enough top ramen to feed a small country indefinitely. It's despots that starve people, intentionally.

  • @TheGreatLink I agree completely. It is unfortunate that humans here on Earth have founded their civilization on the principle of stealing from other people's children in order to feed their own (eg: nationalism, war, capitalism, racism, deceptive marketing, eating animals without limit, etc.) We live in a world of finite resources, but there could be enough for everyone. Yet, instead of working together for personal improvement and the improvement of the species, we choose to act like animals.

  • @JimmySteller

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, as in it wasn't the intent of the writers, but often you'll find people who say "I did it to feed my kids" only use that line to rationalize what they've done. Kind of like drug dealers on the corner do it to 'feed' their kids. Yet it's not long until they start walking around with expensive clothes and toys. So while Cardassians may have done it for their kids, so they'd never go angry, it's obvious it was a power trip.

  • @girlgarde An illustration of the folly of large governments and their standing militaries. When the people invest all their power in a few men, those men will do with it as they please. And it will be difficult for the people to call them to account for their actions because of the size of the investment in them.

But when the people remain suspicious of office, refuse to allow standing militias, and invest in themselves and each other, then all are accountable immediately and justice reigns.

  • love it

  • Very touching, brought me to tears. It shows what emotions such as envy, jealousy, anger and overally not understanding other cultures can cause.

  • I am also crying here... specially becuse of how real this fiction is based on.

And I am considering Damar as one of the best fiction characters ever. From a secondary character to the savior of the quadrant. Loyal to Cardassia to the end. A true hero.

  • I like this a lot. Very emotional and very informative. But some of the editting was jumpy as was the music (which was beautiful, but jumped bars a great deal).

  • Actually I think the ST creators had the Japanese occupation in mind rather than any German/Jew parallel. The mass rapes, comfort women, labor camps, mass killings, denials of any atrocities...it exactly fits the Japanese occupation of its Asian colonies (korea, taiwan, etc..).

  • I'm crying while I write this but maybe that's a good thing too because it keeps from forgetting the real world background for the ST stories.

The video is very powerful, especially using the soundtrack from Schindler's List. I also applaud you for showing the cardassian side to it, including Marritza weaping in the end, because it makes it all even more tragic than simply painting it in black and white.

  • the paralells were there, The B'jornas were the jews, the Cardassians were the Nazi's and Gul Dukat was Hitler, it's not simply a rip of, or a lack of ideas, it's a story to show people the horror and consequences of war, in modern times, thats why DS9 was the best ST show out of all of them.

  • Great job! That's really powerful work. Great linkups between scenes in different shows. I am posting it to MinorPhaserBurns (w'w.MinorPhaserBurns.bl'gsp't.c'm)

    Best holocaust education imaginable

    --Berzerkomand

  • so the Bajoran were the jews in space?

  • a deeply religious and ancient people. noses with curves. their planet a close ally of the federation (like israel is to the US). it certainly seems that way

  • I thought the soundtrack was very fitting. As I recall, in the scene where Damar learn's of the murder of his family, there wasn't any sound. This is much more moving.

  • incredible!

  • Wow, quite possibly the most emotional ST vid on youtube! The psycho Cardie who tried to egg Kira to prosecute him was one of the greatest minor actors in the series and "Duet" (the episode I think) was an amazing episode. Thanks for sharing!

  • I agree, I saw that episode for the first time about 2 months ago and it had me gripped all the way through.

The actor playing him delivered the part brilliantly and Kira's performance complimented it all the way.
