@bjkatcher Actually, bjkatcher, you've got it backward. Walmart's reasoning is more along the lines of "Why hire one employee 40 hours a week when we can hire two at 30 hours a week for less?" Walmart doesn't overwork its associates. If anything, it sometimes underworks them. It's called good business sense.
@JoshuaH688 I completely agree. My wife used to work at a Walmart. Every time she got close to earning overtime, they'd make her clock out (It's easy to get a teenager to believe 'we'll pay you the rest later'). If they overworked their employees, then they might actually make a decent living.
