@layladuane It's a real shame the orignial ABB isn't together. Trust me. I saw the original band really cooking many times. I'm 64 now and the Derek, Warren, Otiel line up, believe it or not, doesn't come close to doing an Allman Brothers show like the original lineup. Even Gregg, Butch and Jaimoe aren't as good and it must be their age. Plus the real good song writing seems to have stopped about 1994 with maybe Change My Way of Living as the last really good one. Most of this band is the past.
@boblackey1 Butch still has it, Jaimoe is obviously behind because of what he's suffered, same with Gregg. As for the newer members, let me assure you that Derek and Warren are both as good of, if not better players than Dickey and add just as much character to the band. Same goes for Oteil vs Berry. And Marc Quinones on percussion is out of this world. Sure the band would never be close to the same without Duane, but thats the breaks man.
@theatlantisrise Nope. Warren and Derek do a good job standing in for the late Duane Allman but they don't come close to the sound and song writing that Dickey Betts provided for that band. Listen to Dickey's tone and where is a blues solo that equals what Dickey does on One Way Out on Eat a Peach or Jelly, Jelly on Brothers and Sisters. They just can't make the ABB swing the way Duane and Dickey did on Statesboro Blues (Fillmore) and Trouble No More (Eat a Peach). Where is the song writing?
@theatlantisrise Where is the Jessica, Blue Sky, Liz Reed, Revival, Southbound, Ramblin' Man, Crazy Love, Seven Turns, Change My Way of Living, etc etc from Warren or Derek. Otiel is a great musician but he dosen't make it sound like the Allman Brothers in the Berry Oakely tradition. I will tell you which line up came to closest to the original and even they were not in the same ball game. That was the Dickey, Warren and Allen Woody lineup of the early 90's. Anybody who says NO is nuts!!
Gettin' ready for me I see. :-) I will see you gentlemen on the 14th, and very much looking forward to it. Play on in to you fifth decade, boys--I'll be there to listen.
i want my moogis - please bring it back - can't go to all the shows
