They were bought by Audi and even though some of the designers and engineers may still be the same, they still hand all their profits over to Audi and their salaries are designated by Audi. Its really comparible to the american company GMC which has many branches such as Cadillac, Pontiac and Chevrolette; none of which function on an independant basis.

@falkentires55 Uhh Audi had a V10 before the Gallardo came out. It was in the S8. They also had the W12. That from VW though. If you'd know anything about Lamborghini, you'd know that the older models, took plenty of parts from Audi, steering, air conditioning, (in fact all the luxuries) Porsche also uses Audi parts. I've seen in the 2004 911 plenty of familiar parts from the A4 my family had a few years ago. The Lambo engine was co-developed with Audi. It's not an "only Lambo" engine.
