That was borderline illegal, I would have done the same exact thing. If he came down slightly more in control he would've been fine. This wasn't an issue of how hard he hit the mat, man who was in on the shot had bad positioning and not the best control going up, thus not the best control going down. Whoever yells "cmon" in the background has a (v), let them wrestle.

I don't think that's an illegal slam. The kid had both arms to break his fall, he could have bellied out and that fall wouldn't have looked so bad. It's the ones where feet go over the head and an arm or both are trapped. Bad call on the ref, imho.

Textbook Slam. From the NFHS Wrestling Rule Book "RULE 7-1-1 A Slam is lifting and returning an opponent to the mat with unnecessary force. This infraction may be committed by a contestant in either the top or bottom position on the mat, as well as during a takedown. A slam shall be called without hesitation." Notice rule says nothing about knee touching or not. General interpretation is that if you lift your opponent off of the mat, you are responsible for his safe return.

because collegiate wrestling does not = professional wrestling.

Collegiate wrestling is about dominance and whats called "catch as catch can" style chain wrestling, submissions and pins and whatnot, and not about big slams and dramatic power moves for the sake of entertainment.

The internet and all it's wonders and resources are at your fingertips y'know...the slam looked sloppy and uncontrolled, and also landed the fellow dangerously on the back of his neck. As I said, the emphasis is on the control of wrestling holds, and not the drama of wrestling slams. Some slams are legal, but they can't involve the attacker leaving thier feet ( which this kid did ), and it's meant to lead to a control/dominant position.
