  • Really good song. What makes med sad though, is reading about people donating for Animal rights causes when human beings are starving to death.

  • Mother nature is gonna FUCK US UP! and the sad part is, we deserve it.

  • 9 people don't care about the Earth.

  • 99.7% of all animals that have ever existed went extinct before humans even evolved.

  • Michael Stipe and Anderson Cooper should have sex in an undercover video!

  • Comment removed

  • Fuck humans!

we´re really fucked... When will our gods pull the plug?? SAD

  • I cry; my wife and and I donate to help many animal rights causes. I hope whatever we all do helps where it counts.

  • All that aside I still love REM

  • This Album is "LivingLegend"!!!

  • tis

  • I cannot stand what these 3rd world unregulated countries are doing to people and to the planet. especially china. we should boycott all their productsand start taxing them to pay for our agencies that look out for all of us in america.

  • agree!! watch EARTHLINGS, it's good too!!

  • I hope you realize that in many cases it's western - often american - corporations that use cheap labour in, for an example, China to increase their profits. Not all the blame lies with the developing countries.

  • China 3rd world?

Have you never heard of the 2nd world!?

  • wow great video, just goes to show the destructive force of technology and man, probably one of the best videos on youtube, too bad, such a shame, should have alot more views

  • what we need is true conscious leadership! not worry about money but the things that are going ang cannot be bought back

  • Fantastic song!

  • Republicans would never make somthing as honest and raw as this.

  • You're obviously too ignorant to realize that all republicans aren't like that. Republicans tend to be more honest and raw when it comes to economic and social issues instead of gift wrapping everything.

  • Not many republicans like that today. Ron Paul ya.

  • I think the puppet in the blue hat represents me far better than the puppet in the red hat does. Wake up!

  • btw this was supposed to be a response to kosser1234

  • awsome

  • fantastic, has to be shown x well done for staying true to yourselves and what you believe in x my favourite song from the new album. thank you x

  • Perfect song for this!~

  • Best tune from R.E.M.'s new masterpiece="Accelerate"!!!

  • what a great song

  • go too Norway and watch the glaciers melt in away it never happened before and then come back. I think you never left your country... Go OPEN YOUR EYES!

  • To ReadeRomke I don't doubt that the glaciers have been melting, but it's not like the planet's temperature would never change if it wasn't for the human race. You are all so quick to attack anyone who criticizes this whole "carbon emissions cause global warming so we should all pay tax on them" scam. Maybe you need to re-open your minds and examine more of the evidence. The warmest temperatures since records began would be far more shocking if temperature records were more than 150 years old.

  • Ofcourse natural climate variation exists, but to suggests that human activity is not the main cause of the current climate change would be opposing to the views of almost the entire scientific community. You speak of opening your mind and examining evidence, well I suggest you do just that and hopefully change your mind, after all the science on this issue is, at this point, pretty clear despite of what all the misinformation and junk science being pushed by the "skeptics" might suggest.

  • thats cuz people care and have a conscience.

  • asshole

  • Beautiful song from the album. I love how after all these years the band still stands for awarness and education. Thank you, gentleman.

    Kevin "Jammerk" Fielder

  • Best song on R.E.M.'s last album

  • 100% agree with you!!!

  • chinas goverment sucks

  • and america didn't sign the koyoto treaty. Why didn't they?

  • Song is great!

  • i love this song. Anderson Cooper is one of the only honest people on CNN. Wolf Blitzer is as slimy as an eel taking a bath in soap while Lou Dobbs thinks he is so righteous that he gets to decide what is anti-middle class. Campbell Brown is ho gone reporter (and not a hot one at that). Jeff Corwin is actually pretty cool; I used to love his show and its good that's he getting publicity now.

  • HA! CNN pretending it has a sense of ethics, hypocricy defined.

  • yes it's also me great band after oasis ofcorse

i'm very happy that they had put their 13album

  • planet in peril is amazing and I agree, that song fits perfectly with the trailer

  • ..act now....

  • that really was an interesting piece. apparently that song fits it perfectly.

  • the song is classic, that is, not necessarily the whole album

  • Great song!!!

  • monster is a fantastic albumn

  • this song is on accelerate, not monster

it's already one of their best, an instant classic, imo...

  • are you mental.i was refering to the comment before mine saying how he never forgave them for making monster not that this song is from monster.

  • no, I'm not mental. thanks, though.

  • cool

  • rem have certainly got my attention back for this one, suppose i never forgave them for putting out a record like monster, everything else since that has been cool though lol i would love to see them get a number one from this album!!!! mike and the boys go u!!!!

  • Monster (fantastic album) was just a return to their roots - this is, after all, a band that was at one point named the best rock band in the USA by Rolling Stone mag.

  • absolutely!!! it was nice to see them getting that well deserved recognition!!! many people only came in on the out of time album but the older stuff like murmur, lifes rich pageant, document are treasures yet to be explored by the "later fans" the rem catalogue has to be one of the finest ones ever!!!

  • REM (Michael Stipe) dedicated this song to Heath Ledger at the SXSW concerts in Austin last week. "We LOVE you HEATH!!!

The song is about the Irish about their plight.

On this video....WE have some of these things happening in our own country the USA.

  • one of the favorite song of heath ledger...

    Rest in peace joker...

  • this song reinds of find the river thas another amazing song rem are back n i cant fucking wait for there new album

  • This song sounds awesome, just listen the part of original song on REMHQ!

I don't like to compare songs, but this is the Twin of "E-Bow the Letter", even better stuff.

    !!!Fantastic!!!

  • good to see the American "liberal" media doing their part to raise some awareness at least

  • alright i totally get how we should do something about this stuff but it pisses me off when you get tons of people who care more about this stuff than people suffering in situations like darfur, congo, burma and elsewhere that are so easy to affect instantly and swiftly. dont get wrong keep up the good work but remember its not worth it if the earth your saving is a haven of suffering

  • Yes, you couldn't be more right about the need to do something for the people suffering and dying in the places you mention. But I think you're mistaken to believe that these situations can be affected quickly. There are all kinds of political and military obstacles preventing relief and aid. I'm not excusing us for not doing more to prevent the genocide, suffering, and starvation, but I am suggesting that it is not easy to achieve that goal.

  • i feel so bad for the earth. mayb in the future, we will be like final fantasy7

  • cool music,very thought provoceing.

  • Great Lyrics, Great music!!!

"So hold tight your babies and your guns,

For God will be with us the best yet to come,

    Providence blinked facing the sun,

Where are we left to carry on,

    Until the day is done."

This track is very nice for Ending of Acellerate.

  • was geeeeeeeeeeht????

  • The song sounds like TIME AFTER TIME !

  • dude these are the rem people i think they know there own song

  • R.E.M. = Soul of Rock!!!

  • Blue Sky Mine, if I work all day on the blue sky mine. There'll be food on the table tonight. If the company won't save me, Then who's gonna save me?

  • A Midnight Oil reference.. you rock, dude.

  • Wow, this is very Moving. Great Music, with awesomely pictured Nature... Still having cold waves running down my back..

  • Sounds awesome! REM are gonna take the music by storm (again!) in 2008, gonna be a big year for them.

  • I cant wait for the oil to run out so the Earth can reclaim itself.

  • You are right. We should let the Chinese do it and the African nation's pay for it.

Get real. Who else builds the hospitals, cleans oil spills and does everything else to protect the environment then catches the most hell for it?

Besides, is a fucking music video. Grow up.

  • Why should it matter who does it as long as SOMEONE does it? I'm all for anyone with the motivation and the conscience to step up. Why should their efforts be belittled simply because they're white? It doesn't have anything to do with anything. I don't know or care what color you are, but you sound like a racist.

  • This is ever so cool now that former journalist/anchor woman turned politician Maxine McKew booted out Australia's Priminister John Howard from his own electoral seat. The signals were there but Howard wasn't listening..

  • Very Moving

  • yes REM is/are great -and a pleasant return to folk ways this song is- but there won't be a world to play their music in, unfortunately. Pull your finger out, people!

  • I think if you listen to the rest of the songs from Dublin you'll see that there's defintely a world and a place for REM today. If they release any of the following (Accelerate, Horse To Water, Living Wells, Disguised, Man Sized Wreath) as singles, they should have no problem getting radio play!

I still hear the band nearly every day on the radio over here. People just need an excuse to play them and the new songs should give them that IMO.

  • and hoe fault is that? yours.

  • no its yours dumbass

  • Sounds like another great REM Classic, thanks very much Mr Stipe, Mr Mills and Mr Buck you are the fucking NUTS boys. Keep it coming.

  • Fables and ATS are the only R.E.M. albums I'd class as weak. Up and especially Reveal are brilliant albums.

  • Reveal> 8/10

    UP> 5/10

    ATS> 4/10

    Fables> 3/10

ps: Up is nothing special but Reveal is realy brilliant Album!

  • I think Up as an album isn't great. It's too long for a start. And having Airportman as the first song is just madness. But it has some of R.E.M.s most under rated songs on it. Dimished is genius! Falls to climb, apologist, in the air, suspicion, lotus, etc

  • My favorite R.E.M. records on "Up" Album are:

    1. Walk unafraid

    2. Lotus

    3. Daysleeper

    Great songs!!!

  • Personally, I think Reveal is REM's weakest. I have all of their albums by the way. Their best are New Adventures In Hi-Fi, Life's Rich Pageant and Reckoning. Reveal is not a bad album at all, but REM have done so much better. Around the Sun was much better than I expected and I'm really looking forward the next album now.

  • RearViewMirror123---how is Fables weak? I love that album! It's very moody.

oh and I like your handle if it's a Pearl Jam reference.

  • rear view mirror is a PJ and an REM reference ;) (rearviewmirror a lyric in whats the frequency)

i guess its down to opinion but I've never been mad about Fables. Every thing REM has ever done has had a great edge to it. Even the slower songs always do. Fables just drags for me. In saying that, i love Maps and legends, cant get there from here, driver 8 and life and how to live it! lol

  • cool. I love how it's both a PJ and REM reference. They're my 2 most favorite bands--I mean, I'm a fanclub member for both :)

  • Yeah both are my top 2 as wel

  • "UP" an "New adventures in Hifi" are two of my favorite R.E.M. albums. "UP" always polarisises, but I like it.

  • I just want some freinds.

    Lyon

  • Great music, great song but get more optimism force/energy to the New Album please!!!

    PS:REM RULEZ

  • Great ballad, just like old times. I see a good forthcoming album and I preview a success. Come on guys!!!

  • That's a lot of concerned-looking reporters.

  • Thank you for posting...hauntingly beautiful...

    Life is beautiful...

  • wow, its amazing how people can comment on "new REM" being ATSish when they clearly haven't even listened to the Dublin shows from the summer! This along with 2 others are the only slow songs out of 11 that were debuted in Dublin. Go and type in 'olympia gigs' and see what the new album will be like.

Oh and btw...to vegetablehead, just because you're a fan of a band longer, doesnt mean you know whats good and whats bad from a band.

  • Yeah, "Until The Day Is Done" sounded great at Dublin. Along with all the other new songs--except "Man Sized Wreath". I don't know why I can't get into that song. Maybe I just haven't listened to it long enough. "Accelerate" is my favorite of the 11.

  • I can honestly say I've loved each R.E.M. album - each has its own charms.

    This is a great song.

  • reveal? reveal? much a i love them reveal was awful

  • "Reveal" is 100X better than "Up" and "Around The Sun" but not so good as "Out of Time" and "Automatic For The People"!

The New Albun gonna bee cool...I hope so. :)

  • Was a very poor album, but was saved by one or two great songs. I'll Take The Rain was my favourite from Reveal.

  • Only I'll Take The Rain???

Beat A Drum, I've Been High, Imitation Of Life, She Just Wants To Be, All The Way To Reno are also fantastic records!

And NO...Reveal is NOT poor, that Album was the great reborn of the band.

New Adventures In Hi-Fi is very good but I think: Out Of Tme, Automatic FTP & Monster albums are the best Albums of R.E.M.

  • I'll Take The Rain was my favourite, but obviously there were other songs I liked (the ones you mentioned for example)! But I still maintain that it was poor, by REM's standards.

Out of Time for me was not spectacular in any way. Losing my Religion and Country Feedback were amazing, but the rest of the songs weren't really 'up there'. Monster & Automatic were great though!

  • OK...PEACE :)

  • You'll get none of that from me!

    Ha!

  • I like neither beachball nor summer turns to high, for me the best is the lifting

  • REM is the best band in the world! music will provide the light you cannot resist!

  • yeah!! I love "I'm Gonna DJ" :)

  • Great...more Guitar&Mandolinn less comp&electro crap.

    !!!sounds great!!!

  • i like the song ... i like Around the Sun and the songs on it ... i don´t know what all those people mean, who don´t like it ...ok, i think their best album is still New Adventures, but ATS isn´t bad.

    I didn´t hear the new songs ... i hope they´re a bit more rock´n´roll than this nice one ...

  • Lazzy Album, few good songs on it but result is verry depressive...ATS isn´t so bad.

  • more boring mid-tempo jingle-jangle

  • I actually think this a fantastic sounding song. The high E dropped tuning and almost arabic sound to the music as well as the strings makes for a genuinely interesting sound.

It seems to be that the "it's not as good as Automatic" bandwagon is very easy to jump on, and I doubt that REM want to replicate previous work anyway.

It's always good to see that the nutball Christian right of America is represented - thanks VegetableHead!!

  • "so...." what?

    what's your point?

  • help!

  • noway! the new record will only feature a couple of ATS-ish songs, according to was we've been presented in dublin this summer...

  • This preview makes me so sad and overwhelmed with hopelessness. We need to do something to save our planet and the life of all living things. Extinction of any life form is not acceptable. Our politicians are not doing enough. Al Gore NEEDS to run for President!

  • Around the Sun all over again...

  • I'm afraid so... This song wouldn't make it to the b-sides of Automatic or New Adventures. I don't even mention the I.R.S. years :(

  • I judge Bon Jovi would rather be associated with the program's message than with you.

  • well if you want even 'better' crap, all you had to do was watch snl over the weekend (coincidence?) i'll take nightswimming any day over some pseudo-poli green garbage.

  • Well you go and listen to it then, moron. Its best you do.

  • Well, being a citizen od the U.S. doesn't automatically make you a good person. Don't you reckon it's a good thing that R.E.M. is pointing some of your bad sides, so you could change it?

Anyway, nothing is more important that saving the environment. And the song is great.

  • Argh. More political crap from a band that used to be great.

Anderson Cooper is a a pompous poser. The ice sheet he talks about is no where near as thick as his skull.

REM was great up until Bill left.

I love older REM and listen to that music all the time, but totally lost interset when the band ask that you listen with guilt for being a citizen of the U.S.

  • starrynight3, you have the right to say what you will. But I respectfully disagree. Bill was an important part of the band, I do agree with that, but Michael and his passions are the heart and life-blood of the music and the message. I find the band is relevant now more than ever.

  • michael's voice goes right threw me, brilliant

  • "threw"?

  • great song....but would love to see Stipe go on FOX with his message. Quit trying to stereotype everyone based on Politics....please.

  • Good song, really. And for a right cause too...

  • I can only hope this video and series on CNN will touch people's heart's and mind's as it has mine. Maybe our generation can be the one that actually stands up and makes a difference in this world!

  • Just me that thinks Anderson Cooper looks a bit like Billy Bragg?

  • i saw this on anderson cooper 360 the other day and fell in love with it.

  • Anybody does NOT think R.E.M. is the greatest American band ever??? There's no other band with such relevance today...

  • Thank you for posting this, its awsome.

  • Brilliant Perfect Well Done

  • Vocals are really raw. Good sign for the next album! The melody in this song is fantastic. Hope it's not first single though. Want that to be a rocker!!

  • Yeah, great song. Looks like REM is getting back on tracks. Thank God.

And the video is so sad... We should care about environment. I hate how people are destroying their own home.

  • Wow! looks amazing, sounds fantastic : )

  • amazing song, touches your heart! They just keep getting better and better!

  • Great song ,,,,,love it
