  • does EVERY1 have to get permanent retainer

does it hurt to get it put on and off

  • @WhoBeauty typically the choice is yours if you'd like bonded or removable. All we can do is offer recommendations based on how your teeth were before you started treatment. It does not hurt to have it put on, you just have to stay open so they can get it all on correctly. Then having it removed is similar to having braces taken off. Hope this helps! ~Jackie

  • my lower pernament retainer get in the way of my toung. I hate it

  • It depends on how much correction was accomplished during their treatment, so if someone was really crowded they would really benefit from a bonded ;)

  • Why is it that some people absolutely need permanent retainers and others can use normal ones?

  • i've had my permanent ones top and bottom for a few years now and they work great you never lose them flossing is not complicated if you know how to do it properly but its better to get them the day you get braces off then to wait to get fitted and wait and at least their in the back and no one can really tell unless paying attention which no one will but their not bad

  • I have to get a bottom, and top permanent retainer.. weeeo! -_-

  • Yeah... That's not as easy as it looks. I've had my retainers for years now it it's basically impossible for me to floss. I always end up stabbing my gums and it never gets through the other side and I just end up with sore bloody gums from trying to floss. Sadly to adimit, I just wait to go to the dentist to get it cleaned.

  • I just got my Permanent retainer glued in today. I tried what this lady is doing for flossing and it simply DOES NOT WORK for me. I think maybe my teeth might be two close together or something. Any suggestions?!?!?!

  • what is all the floss in your mouth when it is being put on? i just got mine on today and they did the same thing and im wondering what it was for ahah

  • They forget to mention that permanent retainers are a PitA. My permanent retainer has broken off two times, and having to floss in between it is annoying. Also, the second time mine broke, I couldn't get back in to see my ortho for 2 days, and during that time a gap formed between two teeth that I'm stuck with.

  • this made me shudder watching it. i have top and bottom permanent retainers and flossing is ugh.

  • can your teeth shift 100% where it came from if you dont wear your retainer?

  • @ManTru4 yes, we have seen it happen.

  • @LeftBehindScar it's normal. The pain will go away. You can often use wax that is given to you by your orthodontist and that will prevent it from rubbing. The spikes are for later. On the inside,( the side of your tongue) they are for headgear attachments. On the outside,(the side of your inner cheek) they are for rubberbands. Not always are both of these needed. I didn't have rubber bands nor did I have headgear. Hopefully this helped. ( if your orthodontist does not give you wax, you can jus

  • Okay WHATS THIS THING IN MY MOUTH .... If you get braces u have the 2 little spikey things in the back of ur teeth right?! Well i have this thing on the bottom behind my teeth and at the back i have those spikey things! what is it?! D:

  • I have a permanent bottom retainer, but my orthodontist only put it on the first 4 bottom teeth....did they do it wrong?

  • Are you required to wear a regular retainer from time to time with the permanent retainer?

  • i got one today and i just got my braces off and i have cuts and bumbp on my tounge and the part below my gums in ther back where my fixed retainer is . do i just have ti get used to it or am i going to have to put up withthis cause it hurts really bad. and how bad is it getting it talken off. is it just like getting braces off

  • @DanNazarioDEP It took me about 4 days to get used to mine, and now after almost 2 years I forget that it's even there. I don't know exactly how it feels having it removed, but my guess would be similar to having braces removed. I'll be sure to ask the next patient I have that we remove it and I'll be sure to get back to you :)

  • EWWWW LOOK AT THE OTHOS HANDS

  • Which kind of retainer is this ?

Is it a White Gold Chain Retainer ?

  • @oOBeepx3Oo it is a White Gold Chain that we use!

  • ok have a permanant wire in your mouth sounds gay and also where a retianer for the rest of your life cuase if you dont it goes back to messed up... what the help is the point of getin brace if you have to go throu the dam hasell of retainer for your whole life,,, its gay,, and i had braces for like 2 or 3 years cuase inseurse wont pay to get them removed and now its braking in my mouth.

  • @DJ93cabron sleeping with retainers in your mouth 4 nights a week to maintain that awesome new smile doesn't sound so bad, don't you think? It's not going to be a full time deal except right after you get them removed.

  • @BhatiaOrthodontics i guess so

  • Whats the music in the background?

  • @199291931 I'm sorry! I attempted to locate the CD and I can't find it. I will keep my eyes peeled and if I find it I'll let you know.

  • Ok i got mine today the cement stinks like garlic really bad and my night time retainer makes me gag i have thrown up once with it in and is it normal to have that smell anyway to get rid of it

  • i would hate to have a permanent retainer , so glad im getting the removable one

  • Is there an Upper Permanent Retainer ???????? cause im about to have my braces taken off and i really need to now. I really don't want to ha a removable I'd prefer an upper permanent retainer if available

  • @bazze03 most office won't do those, it would hit on your lower teeth and break loose, but be sure to check with your Ortho Office ;)

  • how abouit burshing the back of ut tooth will it ever get lose?

  • @strickmans you will brush like normal, and yes it can become loose. If it does you need to call your Ortho Office and let them know so they can glue it back on again before your teeth start to shift.

  • Can't I just brush my teeth once I get my permanent retainer?

  • What was with all the string?

  • i like the office music...funky.

  • The glue on one of my teeth feels so much thicker than the others, and it really bothers me. My ortho already filed it down a little once, but it still bothers me. Is this something I need to bring up with him, because is it an easy fix?

  • my mom has one of those

  • But wait my bff got her braces taken off and had a retainer that she can take off whenever and she said she doesn't have to wear it anymore. Retainers aren't permanent :P

  • @Hidjdjdj as long as you want straight teeth you have to have a retainer. All orthodontic offices differ, this is just what we stand by.

  • @Hidjdjdj some people have to have permanent retainers, like i will cuz my orthandontics said that the bottom teeth usually start to have spaces between and it will mess up the bottom teeth but some people don't have to have permanent unless their orthadontics says they have too

  • Hello I just got a question ...I got braces and they are working perfectly I would only have them for 1 year if not less but I just got told about this retainers :( ...Is it true you need to wear them for life?

Can you use the clear ones insted of the other ones?

  • ummmm hey i got a question i have a retainer on top beacuse like my bottom teeth are in front and my upper teeth are back they saY I HAVE A CROSSED SMILE OR SOMETHING but any way my retainer that i had for like a 1 month is really tight now and i feelo it smaller than before is that normal or wat?????????

  • i have a lower permanent retainer and an upper clear retainer id rather have both clear though

  • what is all the string ?

  • @11bookham It's to hold the retainer in place while the glue dries

  • It does not matter what kind of retainer you have, you just HAVE TO HAVE ONE!!! Retainers are to be worn for as long as you would like to have your teeth straight. Don't get me wrong, you don't have to wear the removable kind all day long the rest of your life, but at least everyother night while you sleep.

Bonded retainer are easily removable should you choose to have it taken out.

  • can oyu get permitnet retainers taken off

  • why do some people have permanent retainers and some people just wear it for a couple of years?

  • honestly you 2 are fighting and you dont know each other god people can be so rude and you r not a loser and you r not a freak so nust work it out

  • i need a permanent retainer. ugh its so annoying having to put in my retainer at night and it be tight again

  • hmm they never gave me any superfloss oh well

i never floss anyway and I've never had any problems.

  • how come some people get bonded retainers and some don't?

    o_o

  • It does depend on a couple factors (patients that don't brush well it's not the best idea), if you are interested be sure to ask your orthodontist if it would work for you!

  • @BhatiaOrthodontics I got sent home with removable ones and never was I asked if i wanted the bonded ones, which now i want. so i called my ortho up and she said she didn't recommend it. I really don't like the removable ones and I would rather prefer the bonded ones. can i go to a different orthodontist to get them in? the removable one tore the roof of my mouth causing it to bleed and i can't wear it cos it hasn't healed and I'm worry to place it in again.

  • ughhh..

i hate when ortho's floss for you....

  • haha i still watch disnet channell on occasion and i am 15

  • Agh...

    These retainers are annoying.

I've had mine for over two years.

I can't take it out until I get my impacted wisdom teeth taken out... =/

  • yeah butr is very small and cant take it out

  • haaaaa urs is permaent

  • Does it hurt to get the perminant one. I don't have a choice, the orthodontist is making me get it! D:

  • It does not hurt at all! All of the active force is done now that your treatment is finished. This is simply a means to hold things were they are. You will be happy in the long run having the bonded retainer.

  • evryone that has braces has to get a permanent one..

  • No. Most of my friends who have had braces don't...only like 5 people I know have.

  • when then your orthodontists is jacked up..

  • Almost none of them go to my orthodontist!

  • wutevr

  • not true i had braces and retainers but they was not permant

  • bcuz no one gets permanent braces duh.... i dont know u dont talk to me weirdo....

  • u replyed to me soooo u are weird

  • dude seriously.....just dont reply.....freak

  • shut up im not a freak u are loser :P

  • only losers like miley cyrus...... what now? :)

  • @miley120000 Maybe thats because you had the braces in the 1900s. welcome to the 20th century weirdo.

  • now bac to my question :

i either have to get jaw surgery or braces and i chose braces i would have to have em on for only 5-6 months to fix my bite!

so i wanted to kno if i get braces again and the day i got them off could i get a permanant retainer instead of the plastic cover slip ones i didn't know bout the permanant one till now plz answer !!!!

  • You will have to check with your orthodontist but a bonded lower retainer could be an option to have placed the day you get your braces off.

  • i have a question plz reply:

ok so i got my braces off ine june 09 and i my ortho did not give me a retainer yet cause i had 3 bracets still on to fix my bite so i hadto wait 3 days so later the day i got my braces off i had no retainer and i got hit int he mouth at cheer prac and my front teeth shifted when i went bac to get my retainer they had to make another and give me an aligner retainer and now my jaw is screwed up and i go bac in december if my jaw moves even more i have to get braces

  • Would you get a lisp from this?? Or would it effect you when you sang songs??? Relpy PLEASE!!

  • The first couple days it is going to feel strange. We suggest talking and singing to help your tongue get use to have the bonding there. The more you practice the sooner you won't even notice it's there.

  • Alright thank you

  • @luteplayer666 You don't SANG songs. You Sing songs. No you wont get a lisp.

  • Honestly, I don't know why everyone is freaking out. I don't have the permanent one yet, but it didn't look too complicated. It would just take a few minutes more than regular flossing techniques.

  • You are correct. I have had mine for quite a while and I prefer it so much more than having to remember to put my retainers in. At our orthodontic practice we see a lot of patients who give up on wearing their retainers and their teeth are no longer straight. Kind of a waste after having braces for so long.

  • I hate how I have a lisp because of my permanent retainer... I'd rather I have the removable one, but apparently I didn't have a choice when I got my braces off. -.-"

  • no offense to any one who likes them. but i prefer the invisable removable retainers or the colored wired oness.

  • dude, I've had a permanent retainer on for about 2 years now, and the other day, I bit down on something and I think a part of it came loose, what should I do?

  • Call your Orthodontist. You may have to have a little more glue added to keep everything in tact. If something is loose your teeth can start shifting out of alignment.

  • Permanent Retainers are the best type i think.

    Thank You.

  • I'm getting my braces off soon! :D

As a reward, I'm going to get a permanent retainer...D:

  • Ughhh its just like having braces except invisible xD

  • Reggae = The chillest ortho ever.

  • We are the chillest ortho ever!!! Thanks!

  • i can whistle really loud ...will the retainer effect that at all?

  • do they affect your speech???

  • No, not at all.

  • I have a lower permanent retainer and I was wondering if I am able to have it taken out. It's so tight that I can't even get the floss in there and if I do it bleeds alot, I'm also afraid of problems in the future like gum swelling due to not flossing. Can I easily have it taken out?

  • she sounds like shes on a comercail lol

  • does it hurt while they pull the white things?

  • The white things are dental floss, so if you floss regularly, no, this does not hurt.

  • i got this today :)
