A salute to all soldiers who have died for their country, for their family, for their brothers and sisters in arms...
To the lowliest soldiers on the ground, it doesn't matter if you're the good guy or bad guy in the world's eyes... it matters that you get your brothers out of there together.
If only all the war films hit home as hard as Black Hawk...
Every time this scene ends to the credits, I always stand up and salute. I don't know why but something inside me tells me to salute at the screen. I guess its something to remember and something to help hold back the tears.
Best war film of the decade. Ridley Scott you really deserve to have a goddamn award for this! :)
I feel sad not only because of how bad it went but the fact that they didn't note down the Malaysian force who were there too. We too lost a men in that conflict and the producers and directors did not put that down. That is truly sad for a person to be forgotten in a war
@zimsen88 The numbers I've heard as far as official Malaysian losses were 1 KIA and 7 WIA.
The Malaysian KIA, WIAs, and the Pakistani WIAs were all from the U.N. relief group I'm fairly certain. The film's focus was rather on the Americans who went in and not so much the U.N. evacuation/relief convoy that was sent in thereafter.
I -really- don't want to make this sound like an America-first bias because it isn't, but they were in the brunt of the fighting, and that's what this film portrayed
I just watched this movie last night and when i finished the movie at midnight i went to sleep in tears cause i just got home form hanging with two friends i really care about. They will all ways be my best friends i will do my best to make sure nothing will ever happen to them. That's a promise

@zgrillo2004 no not if in one battle their were over 70 wounded and 18 dead and Matt Rierson was killed in the hangar by mortar fire. and the somalians are all fucked up
I know it's a couple days late, but. THANK YOU VETERANS FOR RISKING YOUR LIVES FOR US. i REALLY APPERICATE IT AND MAY GOD WATCH OVER YOU. AND R.I.P. EVERY SOLDIER WHO HAS BEEN LAID TO REST. I THANK EVERY SOLDIER FROM THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION TO THE WARS BEING FOUGHT TODAY.
my point at the beginning was about not being an A-Hole about veterans. I don't care if you hated these movies I just talked about. You should still charish these men who died for their countries and should be honored. So nexty year when Veteran Day comes around you should say thanks to your soldiers fighting in a war
and "We Were Soldiers Once... And Young" it's about the first battle in the Vietnam War (Ia Drang) they were Amercan soldiers who got sent to Vietnam and got surrounded by Viet Congs, and a lot died as you guys should their is a monument of all the soldiers who died during Vietnam. In total their were 58,000 Americans who lost their lives during the Vietnam War. Another movie i know about is "Platoon", but i havent gotten that one yet...Next comment
I haven't started the book for we were soldiers but right now i am readin the book Black Hawk Down(it is really long). After im done with Black Hawk Down and also goin to read a book called "Bravo Two Zero" this book is about 9 british soldiers who got sent to Iraq in 1991 and they got compremised by the iraqians and their only way to get out was to go like 75 miles northeast or something and swim the Euphrates river. they did that, but only 5 came out... Whoever dislikes this scene needs to go burn in hell. I mean seriously after I watched this whole movie I almost cried and I never cried to any other movie. Even Marley & Me or Radio or The Blind Side and those were some sad movies. Also I fell asleep to this music for at least 3 nights in a row and this movie should be named an instant classic. For everyone who liked this movie read the book. Also if you liked this movie watch the movie "We Were Soldiers Once...And Young"... Next comment
@chrissalyana09 "Saving Private Ryan" was sort of sad, but the saddest movies of all times are probably "The Blind Side", "Marley & Me", "Radio", "Band of Brothers", but this movie and "Band of Brothers" are the two most sad war movies out their and anything to me about the wars from Vietnam to todays wars are sad because I know a lot about those wars. I know a lot about WWII but its sad and WWI i am learin about in school right now and its when the first machine guns were bein used in warfare
@eswain28 Am surprised not to see "The Pacific" in that list, given its similarity to "Band of Brothers" yet a different reality for those who fought Japs compared to Nazis. Both are powerful and great miniseries'.
Also want to point, out the first working machine gun was the Gatling Gun and it was actually used towards the end of the American Civil War (my most studied war). There were not many produced though, at that time. WWI saw the first mass use of machine guns used with better effect.
ridley scott said in an interview to an australian tv channel that he didn't know who wrote the letter, but that it was found as the soldier's were about to leave somalia.
This is one of the greatest movies ever. RIP each man who died for their country. This movie really touched me heart. You men will never be forgotten. And the person reading this is Sergent Lorenzo Ruiz. And Michael Durant was probably my favorite character in this movie.
This movie was great no doubt about it. And RIP all the men who died for their country. This touched my heart I now want to go to Somali and kill each militia
"My love, you are strong and you will do well in life. I love you and my children deeply. Today and tomorrow, let each day grow and grow. Keep smiling and never give up, even when things get you down. So, in closing, my love...tonight, tuck my children in bed warmly. Tell them I love them. Then hug them for me...and give them both a kiss good night for Daddy."

Really sad but true ending to a great film. These men put on a uniform and run in the direction of bullets and danger so that the people of home can sleep at night and they don't ask for sympathy or pity, they just accept their jobs and serve. GOD BLESS THE ARMED FORCES. Dad was a Ranger, I'll never be one but I feel how he feels.
It doesnt, hes listed 4th from the bottom on this scene. When Capt.Steel walks up to where Ruiz is, the doctor looks at him and shakes his head indicating hes not going to make it. It appears the doctors told Ruiz he would be fine to comfort him.
this could have been avoided if the us had told the UN forces cos theyd have had heavier support this is why the US should operate by its self so the UN doesnt fuck it up and make have to pull low key operations
what bothers me about the real event is that clinton is a fucking pussy by withdrawing them back. we should have just kept fighting until we succeed. That is the true American way
@TheDeniedhopedrummer We have been running away from these wars instead of winning. I mean all of the countries mock us now because we run away. they call us "pussies". I am a patriotic man and where there is a war we STAY there and fight to defend the country and the world
not trying to sound like a girl or anything but my dad is in the marines and everytime i was this part in the movie i like almost cry cuz it could happen to anyone in the military
i read somewhere that the actor who reads this, found it very hard to do so, u can hear it in his voice at the end...this makes the ending very moving

@eswain28 yeah :) God bless the troops dying for me and everyone else. We owe them so much
LovesJulie 1 year ago
my point at the beginning was about not being an A-Hole about veterans. I don't care if you hated these movies I just talked about. You should still charish these men who died for their countries and should be honored. So nexty year when Veteran Day comes around you should say thanks to your soldiers fighting in a war
eswain28 1 year ago 2
and "We Were Soldiers Once...

Next comment

this is my all time favorite war depicting movie along with saving private ryan. ^_^
chrissalyana09 1 year ago
@chrissalyana09 "Saving Private Ryan" was sort of sad, but the saddest movies of all times are probably "The Blind Side", "Marley & Me", "Radio", "Band of Brothers", but this movie and "Band of Brothers" are the two most sad war movies out their and anything to me about the wars from Vietnam to todays wars are sad because I know a lot about those wars. I know a lot about WWII but its sad and WWI i am learin about in school right now and its when the first machine guns were bein used in warfare
eswain28 1 year ago
@eswain28 also check out We Were Soldiers. so many sad scenes

@ihaveabigtv i have i pretty much have seen or am going to see every war movie from the Second World War to todays war
eswain28 1 year ago
@eswain28 the war in Mogadishu was really have not seen those movies you stated but i'll try to look for them... ^_^.
chrissalyana09 1 year ago
@eswain28 Am surprised not to see "The Pacific" in that list, given its similarity to "Band of Brothers" yet a different reality for those who fought Japs compared to Nazis. Both are powerful and great miniseries'.
Also want to point, out the first working machine gun was the Gatling Gun and it was actually used towards the end of the American Civil War (my most studied war). There were not many produced though, at that time. WWI saw the first mass use of machine guns used with better effect.

This is one of the greatest movies ever. RIP each man who died for their country. This movie really touched me heart. You men will never be forgotten. And the person reading this is Sergent Lorenzo Ruiz. And Michael Durant was probably my favorite character in this movie.

I dont understand why the film says Lorenzo Ruiz survives but he died in real life.... anyone explain please?
Hammerschool 1 year ago
@Hammerschool
