  • I liked watching this

  • The video has a problem at 02:18 It does not play beyond that. Please have a look.

  • One terrible mistake he's making is equating public schools with education.

Public schools are just day-care, where some kids might learn something, or not.

The single most effective action "society" could take to improve education would be to abolish the public schools.

Let people spend all that money on education systems that have to COMPETE for customers based on RESULTS, not just bureaucrats good at politics.

I've tutored algebra for homschoolers, and had GREAT success. They loved it.

  • @CurtHowland That would be wrong in every way..

  • @Conceptskatemedia "That would be wrong in every way."

    Care to name even one?

  • @CurtHowland

Sounds like returning back to the 19th century, doesnt it. Besides, if you desire to, you can keep tutoring (especially those who can afford it).

  • @Wrath0fKhan "returning back to the 19th century"

You mean complex literacy rates of 98%+? Sounds good to me!

Try reading some John Taylor Gatto. Twice NY State teacher of the year.

Also, I never charged for my tutoring. I do it for fun.

  • @CurtHowland

Try looking up the Program for International Student Assessment, also called PISA.

  • @Wrath0fKhan "also called PISA"

    Why?

JohnTaylorGatto. com will cure you of your "back to the 19th century" illusion, if you care to read actual history, not just propaganda.

  • @CurtHowland

    "actual history"

    I see... ;-)

    "Gatto"

Im actually listening to some audio file of mister Gatto. He seems to be mocking Darwin. Very funny. ;-)

    "Why?"

Why what? Why is it called "PISA" or why you should look it up? ;-)

  • @Wrath0fKhan "He seems to be mocking Darwin. Very funny."

The most explicit text is "An Underground History of American Education."

There are also several YouTube videos, if reading isn't your style.

  • @CurtHowland

I dont see much relevance in your response.

  • @Wrath0fKhan I don't see how I can be more explicit than directing you to a specific refutation of your bald assertion about 19th century education.

If that is not "relevant", then so be it.

Go back to sleep, everything is fine, trust Big Brother.

  • @CurtHowland

Again, I dont see here much relevance at all. Think again.

  • @Wrath0fKhan Ok, just talking past each other.

Look up the Non-Aggression Axiom, think about it. Consider it, and examine your motivations.

    Peace, and good night.

  • @CurtHowland

    "past each other"

Well, I at least am trying to respond to what I intentionally put into quotes. You dont seem to make such a connection. Im wondering.

    "non-aggression axiom"

I dont know what to say. Ermm... Just like "Hoppes kings" caring for their respective countries?

    "Peace and co"

    Indeed.

  • @CurtHowland

    "wrong to initiate force"

Well, then Muhammad is going to rule you soon, cousin. ;-)

"No. Hoppa merely examined the destructive .. over time"

Who says his examination is valid? Obviously his (Hoppe´s) hypothesis didnt find great support amongst historians, sociologists, economists, philosophers, etc. Aint that yet another conspiracy against your (so easily, almost gullibly adopted) world view? ;-)

  • @CurtHowland

    "hobgoblin"

Maybe you will consult professor emeritus how to solve this "hobgoblin". Maybe he will tell you that its "all fine" since it "all" is about "time preference". And since low time preference is "favorable", you (and this hobgoblin) will have much in common!

I dont pay taxa, you dont have to pay either, do you. Just pick up the M4 carbine and lets do it the old fashioned way! ;-)

    "rule or no rule"

We can easily construct a deduction based on axioms that they will. ;-)

  • "meek"

Just like the old kings? Or the "paleo-anarchists" (if they were at all) from 20,000 years ago? I see... ;-)

  • @Wrath0fKhan "PISA"

Government. Waste of time, they're just rationalizing their own existence.

  • @CurtHowland

According to you and the like-minded. Not according to me and the like-minded. ;-)

  • @Wrath0fKhan "Not according to me and the like-minded"

Which would not bother me in the least, if you and they were to do so on a voluntary basis.

However, you and the like-minded use violence and lies to force me and the like-minded to pay for your programs, whether or not we want them, or use them, or object utterly to them.

Holding a gun to someone's head to rob them for "education", is merely using the ends to justify the means.

I looked up, and read, "PISA". Did you read Gatto at all?

  • @CurtHowland

    "voluntary basis"

Well, a democracy appears to incorporate plenty of voluntary basis and non-voluntary basis as well. The second one is obviously intertwined with the very principles of democracy just as the first one.

    "force me"

Thats democratic too if certain core principles of democracy are met.

    "looked up .. read Gatto"

Excellent. Have you already studied (read) all the material related to "PISA"? No? Thats alright. You obviously couldnt have done that. "Same" applies to me.

  • @Wrath0fKhan "democracy appears to incorporate plenty of voluntary basis and non-voluntary basis as well."

Yep. Democracy is an illusion, convincing people of the lie that they rule themselves. Cuts down on pesky revolts, increases tax revenues, ensures the rabble don't do to politicians what they did to kings.

Good book on that, "Democracy: The God That Failed", not that I expect you'd read it.

    "Have you already studied"

Yes. What were you doing the last two hours?

  • @CurtHowland

    "Democracy is an illusion"

Yea... There are people who even claim that we wouldnt exist at all and that everything there is, was just an illusion. One can only wonder.

    "politicians and kings"

Obviously there is a key difference. You can easily become a politician, yet becoming a king (if it aint about becoming a "Burger King") aint that easy at all.

  • @Wrath0fKhan "Obviously there is a key difference."

And that you believe that is why you are so easily controlled.

  • @CurtHowland

"and that you believe that is why you are so easily controlled"

I could say the same about you. However, I will try to be somewhat more specific than you. You seem to be easily controlled by "legalized" conspiracy theories. ;-)

  • @Wrath0fKhan "You seem to be easily controlled by "legalized" conspiracy theories."

    Care to name one?

  • @CurtHowland

Exactly the one weve been talking about (all the time). :)

  • @CurtHowland

"read it" Professor Hoppe seems quite confused about certain general historic tendencies. Maybe you will look up the "master of statistics" professor Hans Rossling.

  • Why not look at successful remote-learning endeavors happening right now?

    academy.mises.org

  • Group Video chat with GIMP?

  • Poor example illustration, which does not demonstrate the long-coming of the software.

  • I'm sitting here thinking "1 hour a week? I can do that" then I realize its only California.

Education is extremely important, but there are serious systemic issues that need to be addressed. It's nice to see other people concerned about things like this, and trying to do something.

  • This is a terrible idea AND execution. I literally get a tear in my eye watching this: You are taking away extremely important elements from the learning process. You cannot possibly accomplish full interaction over the internet as you get in real life, where the teacher/mentor can clearly see the student, read his gestures, maintain eye contact, keep him engaged... Only a tiny fraction of our communication is sound. Epic. Fail.

  • i love how hes so nervous
