Actually, the SS18 can carry 10 MIRVs, so it can hit 10 cities, hypothetically. Nuclear weapons are nice to have, but stupid to use in 21st century. I think the USSR is gone now. I respect the Russians and wish you well in Chechnya. However, the Soviets did use heavy bombers against Afghan civilian targets in 1980-88. In a an insurgent war, civilians are often killed. Of course that does not make it right. (I think Russians have not been too discriminating about not killing civilians in Chechnya.) That said, the Taliban will still be in Afghanistan after the US leaves. And Hamid Karzai is a corrupt joke.

Well I know the Trident is fitted with 8 Warheads each a MIRV yet the yield can be increased and actuallly the US Gov has can refitt these Ballistic Missiles with 4 10KT warheads. Either way, the US can make a weapons of even more yield than the Tsar by using the same refurbished cores which are better than Russian cores which oxidize faster meaning less effective weapons, If the US had inferior nuclear weapons Russia and China would already have struck at America but America is deadly lethal.

The US had the MX missile in late 80s. It's not as powerful (10 x 300 kt vs 10x750 kt), but US missiles are *much* more accurate and lighter. MX was accurate to 90m 50% time.

@SmartZX Actually the Typhoon and Ohio-class strategic submarines are the most powerful weapons every made. Russia doesn't operate the Typhoon-class anymore as they can't afford to. The USA still has a dozen Ohio-class subs but most of the warheads have been removed on the missiles. The Trident D5 could have wiped out every SS-18 silo with 5-7 minutes of warning. That said, nuclear war is not 'winnable'. With launch on warning, both sides loose badly.
