  • this is one reason i think spiritual teachings are better for you than any social religion...no fear mongering...no worshiping...nothing but understanding.

  • we are all destined for death, it makes sense to recognize and accept this, and indeed prepare for it.

  • Very nice. Thank you.

  • @strummersbrother

I would not say that no one knows. The buddha and realized masters can check. The masters can check through logic and based on knowledge of the scriptures.

  • @rainbowlght but in finding out that's when we can live meaningfully. Save us a whole lot of bother later. Plus we don't end up in the lower realms . Hhdl said know the rules so u know how to work it :)

  • @rainbowlght hi, which country are you from? What you say is so true? People generally don't want to talk about death and they don't want to know or find out. They might even be scared to find out.

  • @mrsidjulius hello, do you study the lam rim ? Have you checked out rinpoche's blog ?

  • Thank you Teacher, learn alot and had always enjoyed the lively talks. Very interesting learnings. May all be happy and kind.

  • tibetan buddhism is no better than freemasonry. i know your truths. there is no religion higher than truth. remember that.

  • @freakoutguitarsolo1

Yes, there is no religion higher than truth. Did you listen to the whole talk? Rinpoche is not trying to compare religions and say Tibetan Buddhism is better than any other path. He addresses this at 38:50. Ultimately, there is no right or wrong belief system. It only points out the way. If it leads you to realize the truth of nature of mind, then that is the true path which is right for you. Namaste.

  • Death is inevitable. In my country it is a taboo to even talk abt it in front of the elders. The thing is not to just except everything dies - and tht's it. But to know whee the hell we are heading when we die is the key. Whether u really gonna wind up in hell or turn out to be someone dog. ur karma. Hence u learn karma and do non-virtuous so silly billy don't land in the wrong hole and come out to be a turtle.

  • @rainbowlght Nobody knows where we're heading when we die. To presume that we know is misconception. We do virtuous deeds and practice good karma for good karma's sake: to avoid suffering, and for the upliftment of all sentient beings. Peace :)

  • In the west, we are more concern about celebrating our birthdays and the trappings that goes with it. Yet every time, we are closer to death and nobody knows what happens here ......... until now.

May you live longer for the benefit of our ignorant minds.

  • i don't buy this.

so what is the point of developing compassion and yada yada yada if you're going to come back again and again.

you're just going to be a doormat slave serving everyone else in hopes of having a better next life.

everyone dies, everything that lives dies, including bacteria and animals and plants and everything. death is the end of life. big deal! accept it and move on.

  • I HUMBLY bow in GRATITUDE for teaching GIVEN & RECIVED exactly when NEEDED. NAMASTE!

  • Death is one of the greatest transition that we will ever undertake because it is what we are heading for the moment we are born but almost nothing that we do ever prepare us for it. In fact, we don't even like to talk about it but it remains a inevitable destiny. However, Buddhism breaks that taboo and talks about as a spiritual path by reminding us of what is really important in life as well as in death.

  • The idea of meditating upon death and hearing about the teachings on death is not really about death but about life. Why? It is to instill a positive fear to transform ourselves so our inevitable will be much more pleasant. How we die will be determined by how we live our lives.

  • Lord Buddha taught us to meditate upon our bones or a rotting corpse to reduce attachment to our bodies. It is to focus on the reality of our bodies which is nothing but pus, bloody, slime and rotting flesh so why are we so attached to it.

  • Death is not something we think of and in fact not something we plan towards. So how do we plan for our death? We learn more of the Dharma so we can apply it to transform our mind. It is because we only take our mind to our next life and not anything else.

  • All Buddhist masters engage in death meditation to realize the truth of their mortality. The meditation is not really about death although it seemed like it but actually about life and how prioritize things with the correct view of our mortality.

  • Death comes swiftly and it is not partial to race, language, time or anything. Buddhism's main purpose is to help us when the time has come and to prepare us for this single most important journey of our lives. Unfortunately, very little if not anything in our whole life prepare us for this.

  • Death meditation is not a morbid practice to make us think we are dying but instead effect a change upon us because we realize what is truly important. Hence, death meditation is really not about death but about life.

  • Thank you so much for your generosity Rinpoche

  • Death is a crucial time for every single person on earth. It doesn't matter what religion, class, race, wealth or problems. We all die and how we die will be determined our future happiness whether in this life or the next.

  • I love Rinpoche's teachings and this is one of Rinpoche's most profound teachings ever. Everything we do is to prepare for our death. I hope I do get Vajrayogini practice to prepare it.

  • Death for Tantrikas is an excellent time to seize to become fully enlightened as we are presented with our naked pure mind for a brief moment. If we are attained enough we can recognize this. Lama Tsongkhapa for example is said to be gain full enlightenment at this point.

  • I understand why we have long life practices. We want to ensure our current life that we have met the Dharma to be maximized so we do as much spiritual practice as possible so our next life can be secured. Going through death and everything is scary and nothing really ensures that we will meet the Dharma again.

  • Wow the YouTube version of the book of living and dying. How practical and I think long life practices are powerful spiritual practice to extend our lives so we can do more spiritual practice in this life.

  • are we praying wrongly? 42:00 are we not greedy? must listen.

  • I have never really thought about death seriously before. Thank you Rinpoche for a wonderful teaching. I shall start doing daily death meditation so I will be prepared when the time comes.

  • Very useful talk on the dying process and life.Thank you

  • I really love this teaching, it makes you wake up and accept what will happen to us anytime, anyplace, anywhere. Before i would just see it as nature, that we all die one day but now how would you feel being able to experience the processes know what to expect as well as control where to go from there. I find it hard to believe we either go to heaven or hell, life is more complicated but what else is new, its all suffering or bliss, heaven or hell

  • It's incredible how Rinpoche explains the process of dying one step at a time. I pray that I'd be able to receive Vajrayogini's practice in this lifetime so that I can take control of my next rebirth.

  • The wise are prepared. Rinpoche's teaching is very succinct. Everything is uncertain but death IS. Be prepared. Thank you Rinpoche.

  • Rinpoche is fantastic for teaching all of this to us, because he is open. He has nothing to hide, and the sheer number of YouTube vids (from every possible angle, situation and environment) proves this. On his site tsemtulkuDOTcom, he describes all the hardship of his life and uses his experiences to teach us dharma (just like how we can use Lord Buddha's experiences to learn!).

  • Incredible. Buddha's teachings encompasses everything from beginning, middle to end. From beginning of 'life' to beginning of the death process. Also why we are dying, how to die peacefully, why the methods He teaches can help us to die peacefully...

Rinpoche is incredible for teaching us all of this, in English and in language we can understand.

  • The dying process sounds very logical when these 5 elements are getting out of our body. It's good for to do death meditation in every single day so in the end we won't feel scared to die..

  • I didn't know that there are such detailed description about the death process in Buddhism. I thought it's always about meditation. Great to bump into this video on youtube.

  • V interesting, different kind of talk. No one likes to talk about death, it is good to hear Rinpoche talk like this, and remind us we all end up the same way and leave the same way.

    (tsemtulkuDOTcom)

  • its a very interesting talk. Rinpoche's teaching is so profound, we have to face death anyhow. its important that we do meditation on death always!

  • I found this by chance... never know dying process can be so detail... :p

  • this was great..Iwas doubting bhuddism...because I was taught the wrong way...but I always thought different..just lyk u said..ur words are right..I knew it..I knew I was taught the wrong way..thank you ..

  • I am glad this video helped you...it is thanks to the lucid and clear explanation that my own misconceptions on the "perfect Buddhist" disappeared as well

  • THANK YOU EXCELENCY!!!

  • I came across kechara(dot)com, the outlet website of Tsem Tulku's organisation and kecharapub(dot)com. Wow! It is extensive, you guys should look especial Tsem Rinpoche DVD teachings and books

  • great teaching and reminder of our mortality.. thanks, His Eminence. Please continue to teach :) p.s. i liked that you have started the neonlama com website. I've downloaded a few teachings.

  • neonlama has a lot of nice teachings by Rinpoche and best of all, you arent just taking advantage of the kindness of his students who have to support the organization, but you are also contributing to the Dharma!! how wonderful!!

  • 非常,非常地具启发性!

  • 深入浅出,从宗教去探讨有关生死玄关里的种种过程。

  • "It is secret because when you do it wrong, you can..." (and I don't understand the rest of the sentence.) Please, anyone tell me what he's saying there, because I would really like to know why it's secret!

    Thanks.

  • The rest of his sentence (he repeated it) is:

"you can make the lineage finished".

  • the term secret here means it cannot be taught to any tom, dick or harry and can only be taught to people who are suitable of receiving such teachings. If these teachings are passed on to people who are not qualified, they will end up harming other people and themselves. kecharahouse(dot)com

  • the process of dying is so scary. we lose ourselves completely: we lose all matter of sensations and we can only look and listen helplessly when all our loved ones cry and hold our corpse which registers no feelings anymore. So why not let go of meaningless things that cannot be brought with us when we die like cars, money, houses, status and power? Wouldnt it be more important to have a clear conscience before dying? neonlama(dot)com

  • now.

  • After watching this video contemplating about what I would like to do with the remainder of my life, I would like to contribute to Rinpoche's organization. Where can I go?

  • to their web site i think. or maybe you could go to malaysia and help them with work too. that is very sweet.

  • Thank you Tsem, for discussing this with us. ~You have helped me to understand a lot of my karma...

  • when it comes to death and dying, it is good to comtemplate about it even though it is scary because it makes you realize how much time you have left and realigns your prespective in life.

  • Thank You Team

  • wonderful teaching, thank you Rinpoche !!!

  • if you die really fast then does all of that happen really fast? or does it skip parts? do some people think they still have a body?

  • If you don't naturally die of old age, its different. you should read the tibetan book of the dead, it will show you.

  • if you die of a violent death, these processes will be interupted and emotions and all the energies accumulated during the lifetime will come out all during the same time. This is the reason why people who die of violent deaths are widely believed to be reborn in suffering states. neonlama(dot)com

  • thank you i am getting old so i have to start thinking about death seriously.

  • Is there any way that this teaching can be made available through audio? I do not have much time to sit in front of the computer and watch it, but I really would like to listen to all of it. If it is at all possible, please let me know, I would be very grateful. Long Life to His Eminence!

  • you could download it and convert it to mp3. i can't tell you how though, even though i know all the tricks.
