  • Well, well, walked around the lake today and noticed that the mess that had languished for years has been removed from the boathouse area. Lets hope this video helped open the eyes of those who should never allow it to remain in such a state for so long a period. It may take a little more than videos to remove those old fossils who stood up at the scrutiny panel meeting and lied through their teeth to get their own way and in so doing totally justified their well earned titles of Councilliars!

  • Congratulations to Portishead Skatepark Project and the two North Somerset Councillors (not Portishead District Councillors) who put forward the motion for the decision against the skatepark at the Lake Grounds to be reviewed again by the Executive. A great success for the hard work put in by the skatepark committee. The comments made by Portishead councillors in the room that directly contradicted the facts were shameful. The truth must be told - if money allows by using paid media space.

  • A little faith in some councillors was restored this morning when this question was asked at the scrutiny panel meeting:

“We have moved on from the Edwardian age when the Lake Grounds were built.

“Providing the skate park would mean all age groups had facilities at the place known as the jewel in Portishead’s crown.

“Why then has North Somerset Council refused to lease the ground?”

Over to you Councilliar Pasley.... won't hold breath for an honest response though.

  • Sadly there is new evidence that one town and district councillor is continuing his vendetta against the members of Portishead Skatepark Project by fabricating stories at district council level at a crucial time in decision making. This information will eventually be released at which time I hope the councillor concerned will stand down as an elected member of Portishead Town Council and North Somerset Council. His conduct is appalling and he should be ashamed of himself.

  • The Bristol Evening Post also printed untrue comments with regard to landlord's consent for the skatepark at the lake grounds. Has there been an apology. NO! Shame on the councillors involved in this debacle. Shame on North Somerset Council for the manner in which it handled this affair. Shame on the Bristol Evening Post/Northcliffe Media/Portishead People for printing the lies of the Ward Councillor. Shame on other councillors who did not speak up. Portishead has been treated badly.

  • There are 4 bowling greens (1 private) in Portishead and nothing was thought about carving a whole chunk out of the green bank at the Lake Grounds to build the last one. Yet the plans for the skatepark actually took into consideration every last detail about aesthetics and impact on the area and more importantly would provide leisure facilties for an age group that councillors prefer to ignore. It also won planning permission, the main objections coming from Councilliar Pasley.... again

  • According to the old folk at Portishead Tourist Group, many people have asked for the bandstand to be rebuilt because they remember the old one? The old one was demolished in the 2nd World War and was on Battery Point. Now call me an ageist but I think that it's time to think about the present and the future and cater for young people for a change, not just the old because that is all the fossils on the council can identify with and want to provide for.

  • Excellent video .. keep them coming. True, there was a cafe: my mum used to work there!! What I want to know is what kind of band will play if we get a bandstand. No band I want to hear! no electricity, no amps, not able to rock! People who live down the lake do believe its their own private park. I wonder who was behind the cancellation of the Halloween event in 2010 at the Lake organised by the Youth Club and local police ... answers on a postcard ....

  • And the reason behind the new position of said bandstand (you know that one the locals have demanded for years).... once the bandstand is built it would be used as a reason not to allow a skatepark next to it as use of the skatepark would affect the listening pleasure of those attending the rare events at the bandstand. And let's face it councillors have very selective hearing at the best if times.

  • Portishead Tourism Group want to spend £50,000 on a bandstand to attract tourists to the area? In 2006 they wanted it at the original site at Battery Point. Now to back up the councils anti-skatepark policy (they actually lied about supporting it in their manifestos) they want it right next to where a skatepark has planning permission.

  • That last pic in the vid, my dad says it used to be a resturant before the council flattened it and he used to have dinner there as a kid. How come it was okay for a resturant then but isn't now? The council have really stuffed the skatepark people and I hope younger people get into politics around here soon, there's too much of the old boy network going on.

  • On Saturday morning, 26th November, Town Councillors are holding an open day at the Somerset Hall, Portishead to meet residents and allow people to see the numerous volunteer groups in the town. No doubt they will be willing to answer questions about the skatepark, the secret developer, mystery meetings, personal and prejudicial interests, manifesto promises to provide a second skatepark, why they voted one way at town council and another at district level as well as embargoes on discussion.

  • Despite the Portishead People inc. Mercury stating that "noise and disturbance" was a reason given by NSC officers for the decision not to grant landlord's consent (application for lease), this is untrue because the planning policy relating to this aspect had been complied with. In fact, every planning policy had been satisfied and there were no grounds to justify a "detrimental impact". An NSC officer or NSC councillor's personal feelings should not take precedence over the facts.

  • Excellent point and a point well made. The Lake Grounds are in a disgusting state and yes I do live there and get very tired o f the same old 'Jewel In The Crown' spiel that Councillor Pasley uses so often. This video does fail to mention the tatty blue painted shelters that remind me of old bus shelters in Hartcliffe. If this is our jewel in the crown we need to find a new jeweller to take care of it better. Top marks guys!
