is this the cheapest and best interface to record on a pc/laptop for a good quality lets say album??? can u plug mics into it aswell?, does it work if you plug your guitar into your pedal and then through that into the interface?
@DazedConfused1969 Hi, the first part of your question is subjective, but we would say yes :) The UX1, UX2, KB37, and UX8 can accept Microphone inputs. And yes, you can plug your guitar into a separate external guitar effect pedal and plug that into the POD Studio interfaces to use with POD Farm and/or recording.
I was wondering, i'm going to buy a guitar, and wanted to record it for school things and for personal use, and was wondering about how this will work, I was going to get a guitar, the line6 floor pod, and an amp, but wanted to record it with the effects from either the amp and the floor pod, or just the floor pod, but dont understand if the quality will be what I wanted. Was going to get the UX1, will all these components go together? Or is there more than just hooking them up altogether?
@l337firefly Floor POD will work great connecting into an amp or a PA, but to record the audio from it to a computer, you need an additional audio interface, such as UX1. If you get a UX1, you can do all the guitar recording w/processed guitar amp/fx modeling using just the POD Farm 2.51... (continued below)
@l337firefly ...software and the UX1 hardware into a recording program (like Ableton Live lite that comes with our interfaces). You wouldn't need Floor POD to record with UX1, but Floor POD is also necessary if live performance with an amp is what you really need.
well i don't understand now it says its a recorder but i just got off the phone with line 6 and they said it isn't a recorder at all it is pretty much the same as having a mini amp on ur computer because it will let me play through it but wont record anything.
@SlinkMusic An audio interface is a piece of hardware that allows you to input an audio signal directly to your computer through either a USB or Firewire connection. You still need to use recording software though. The POD Studio devices come bundled with a lite version of Ableton Live which you use to record your input signal. Make sense?
Ok so if I want to use this for re-amping, with the studio ux2 I could use it as a DI into logic, use a guitar amp plugin to add some distortion while recording the track. Then remove the plugin so i have a clean DI after, then play it out through the pod studio, into a re-amp box and into my tube stack which is miked with two sm57s going through the pod studio, and back into logic?
can i mic my shure sm57 to my amp and use Line 6 POD Studio UX1 as an audio interface???....then use pod farm for further effects??....it does not have phantom power...wil that create problems??...plz help....i am about to buy ux1...thnx
@TheMichaelDN the POD Studio was not really intended to be used with guitar amplifiers. If you want to use it live then you should send the analog outputs of the POD Studio directly to the mixer and PA.
@sheifmasoul This is an audio interface so you'll want to use powered computer speakers or studio monitors for your sound playback. You don't need an amp.
@eriatarka2 You can use Audacity but I'd really suggest a recording application that will use ASIO drivers. Audacity doesn’t. Try Ableton Live, Reaper or Cubase or Sonar, etc. The POD Studio comes with a Lite copy of Ableton Live which is actually pretty feature rich.
so you can plug it into your computer and get it set up and play and hear at the same time out of your comp? if that makes any sense to you, i was thinking about getting the UX2
@colt4494 Yes. The UX2 is a USB audio interface and its whole purpose is to allow you to record via USB and monitor in real time. I'd suggest plugging your computer speakers directly to the UX2 for monitoring playback though.
@aalexcp Line inputs are for Line level devices like keyboards and drum machines. The analog outs are for connecting powered studio monitors to. The Monitor Input jack can be used to monitor (hear) certain devices without actually recording them.
How many Channels can i record simultaneously with the UX2? if its only 1 then that's a bit of a pain having to play again for each instrument. The software im using Samplatude can record multiple channels, but does the UX2 output multiple channels?
Hey, just wondering is it easy to like record yourself on a camera whilst recording on guitar, and put the two together on Windows Media Player to form a nice YouTube video? Thanks
can you use the inputs and monitoring without any software running...I mean, can I concect my guitar to my pedal board and connect the output of my pedal board into the any input on ux1..and monitoring the sound without open any software
What is the story with the "pad" guitar input? I am a little confused by it's use/purpose.
I want a UX2 so I can plug 2 guitars in at once and record both playing at the same time. Will the UX2 and the included recording software enable me to do that?
@TEMPA01 Padded inputs dampen a hot input signal from a guitar or bass loaded with hot or active pickups IE: EMG's, humbuckers, etc. This prevents input clipping which could make your tone sound like pooh.
@TEMPA01 (second part) Yes, although, you will need to use the 2 Line Inputs on the back of the UX2 and set your source select in POD Farm appropriately. But this will work.
I have two questions, the second one might be a bit of a dumb question,
1. Every few seconds a nasty buzzing noise pops up whenever i am playing something with my POD Ux1, it sounds a bit like you're changing the channel on an old Tv set, how is this happening, and how can i get rid of it?
2. could i input a guitar cabel into the headphones jack, so that i can use my amp as a speakerset?
@TomasPaalman 1. You could be suffering from an incompatible chipset on your computer w/the UX1. If the noise sounds like white noise then that could be it. There is no true fix for this but in most cases installing a PCI USB card on the computer and plugging into that will fix this issue.
@TomasPaalman 2. You could but be careful. The headphone out on TonePort is Line level. This is a much hotter signal then what the input of your amp is expecting (Instrument level). Just make sure to watch your levels as you don't want to clip or damage your amps input.
You can't use every input at once but you can create separate channels in your recording application discreetly for each input at the time you are using that particular input.
I setup my POD Studio just like in the instructions manual and i put it as my soundcard but i cannot hear anything through my Desktop speakers what Should I do??
I've got a question. I'm in a band, and I have already got the POD Studio GX (first one) which i use with my computer. Would you recommend buying the second one too (The UX1), so that we can connect the headphone output to our amp or speakersystem, so that we can play through that (laptop). For example. being able to use all the effects and pedals, and save alot of money on buying them.
Does this device work as an external sound card/audio interface for recording and will it remove delay/latency when its plugged into my computers motherboard?
The POD will act as an external sound card. If used along side with the POD Farm software you will be taking advantage of Line 6s Tone Direct Monitoring which is near 0 latency.
You can but I wouldn't recommend it. The POD Studio will output a Line level signal which is a hotter signal then what the instrument input on your amp is expecting. The correct way would be to use a pair of powered studio monitors or PA speakers.
How and can you play through your computer speakers?
Because I just bought the Line 6 Toneport KB37 model and waiting for it.
I currently have Guitar Rig 3 Kontrol edition and want to pair it with the Line 6 Pod Farm KB37. But I can not get that really super clean crisp tone. I have the outputs going to my amps and out through my cabinets. I think thats why.Thanks.
but im not quite sure, because my laptop haves 512 ram...and i dont want to waste my time and money on this line 6 product...so please give me some advice....the latency will be a problem???
If you mean like in a live situation then I wouldn't. The UX2 is a USB audio interface used for recording and that's the only thing it should be used for.
I am a fairly new guitar player of about a year, and i want to be able to record a rhythm, a lead, and a bass track all on the same song. i want just a simple set up that is the cheapest. which POD do you recommend?
POD studio GX is perfect for recording guitar only. If you are interested in recording guitar and vocals I would recommend the UX1 as it has an XLR input for a microphone. The POD Studio devices come with a Lite version of Ableton Live which does have a built in drum library.
So if i wanna record vocals on my computer and want them to sound Great i would need this right? i dont need it for a guitar, Just want to record vocals with that studio sound and not that cheap computer mic that has all that back ground hiss ...
The POD Studio devices have very good pre amp models built into the software perfect for recording vocals. It would be superior as opposed to going directly into your computer's mic jack.
GX & UX1 Includes Ableton Live Lite Line 6 Studio Edition 8-track recording software and RiffWorks T4 recording software.
UX2 & KB37 includes Ableton Live Lite Line 6 Studio Edition 16-track recording software, Reason Adapted virtual studio and RiffWorks T4 recording software.
Can you still use effects in the signal path between the guitar and the input on the interface? And I'm guessing this will work for bass guitar as well correct?
This will work fine. You may want to consider using the padded input (not available on GX and UX1) depending on whether or not your external effects boost your input signal at all.
not true! the software that come with the pod studio and the toneport are completely different. you do not get pod farm when purchasing the toneport version.
