No wonder SABAN started using American MMPR music from MMPR Season 1: Episode 43 onwards. Season 1 was very linear in pace, because they were adopting elements from the Japanese Counterpart series. Amongst the 6 Original Rangers, I say that Billy went through the most changes. He was a scaredy nerd in the first 30 episodes from Season 1, and later becomes more and more independent in the last 30 episodes of Season 1.
I remember having a japanese friend as a kid who would get new episodes of the sentai series sent to him. While we were watching power rangers in the states I remeber watching episodes of Dairanger. And was amazed when the villain was actually killed in the end. Even though I was a young kid I loved that they had closure as opposed to the americanised version that seemed to let the villians live on forever. Thanks for posting these vids. Always wondered how Jyuranger finished. Such a cool series

I would assume a woman, but I recall reading an article as a kid where a stuntman claimed to have portrayed the pink ranger at one point, so who knows. Maybe both depending on the circumstances. As for later series, I'm not terribly familiar with them, but it's usually a safe assumption that at least mecha/zord battles are sentai. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
@104dragonman There's a consistent theme in U.S. children's television that is much more lenient when it comes to violence against a non-human, especially a fantasy creature. The explosions of the monsters are never dealt with in an emotional context or given any kind of weight or pathos. In essence, the concept of death is not touched upon. And since, in the show, Finster creates them from clay, the censors could argue they were never really living beings to begin with.

Burai isn't told that he already died until much later in the story. I'm sure you know that, but I wanted to make that clear to everyone else. For a long time, he doesn't know why his life is running out. In fact, the reason they think the elixir will work is that they don't know he's already been dead.

A while back, Toei released an artbook containing designs and sketches of all the past sentai mechs. And in the Zyuranger section, there's actually a Zyu2 section containing preliminary designs for an upgraded DaiZyujin/Megazord!

Yeah.... Zyuranger is still leaps and bounds better than MMPR, but that IS one thing that they never bothered explaining.
They DID say that he stole the Dragon Armor (that is, the gold vest thing) from some sort of Yamato tribe armory, but they never explained how he actually got the Dragon Buckler itself...
@Dreaklock Maybe it was a budget thing. They just couldn't afford to make a decent one. That said, I still don't know why they just couldn't use the Japanese shield. As I said to someone else, the shield obviously still existed (or at least an identical one was made) for the Zyu2 footage, so it's just weird that the American footage couldn't have had one.
What I never understood was when Jason entered the dark demension to save the candle, why didn't he morph??? That would have probably saved the candle. And as for Green Ranger footage, they could have just kept using the stupid cloth shield costume except when he summoned Dragonzord

@KnightofDuroch I was just thinking about it, and, really you're right. There isn't. The excuse I've always heard is that Zyuranger lost the original shield, but that can't be right as it appears all throughout the Zyu-2 footage, which was filmed afterwards.
I think it's no coincedence that the first Sentai to be adapted for American audiences was also the first to feature a sixth ranger. The idea of establishing a team and then adding a new, exciting sixth member was clearly marketable, and I think Saban knew full well going in that Tommy's appearances would be limited, hence leading to more all important ratings : D
@ProdigsProductions You're probably right about that, or at least in the fact that it helped pull in ratings. I swear I've heard, though, that Saban was actually trying to get rights to Jetman, Zyuranger's predecessor, but they got such a late start that they ultimately moved on to the newer Zyuranger. But don't quote me on that.
So if you could choose to only watch one of these two Saban products, which wouyld they be? Those choices are the Saban edited Dragon Ball Z dub or Mighty Morphin Power Rangers?

@bkev93 Apparently you just want me to give everything away! Dairanger is indeed pretty much strip mined for its monsters, mechs, and Kiba Ranger. Like I said, I haven't finished doing my research, but I don't think White Ranger is part of any Zyu2 footage. Zyu2 seems exclusively Zyuranger-based. Early season 2 of MMPR continued to use leftover Zyu2 footage, but they had to cut around elements like Megazord and replace it with stock shots of Dairenou from Dairanger.

@KnightofDuroch I was just thinking about it, and, really you're right. There isn't. The excuse I've always heard is that Zyuranger lost the original shield, but that can't be right as it appears all throughout the Zyu-2 footage, which was filmed afterwards.

I think it's no coincedence that the first Sentai to be adapted for American audiences was also the first to feature a sixth ranger. The idea of establishing a team and then adding a new, exciting sixth member was clearly marketable, and I think Saban knew full well going in that Tommy's appearances would be limited, hence leading to more all important ratings : D

@ProdigsProductions You're probably right about that, or at least in the fact that it helped pull in ratings. I swear I've heard, though, that Saban was actually trying to get rights to Jetman, Zyuranger's predecessor, but they got such a late start that they ultimately moved on to the newer Zyuranger. But don't quote me on that.

@Hewylewis Yes, indeed. Not sure how long it will be, though. I'm only 14 episodes into Dairanger. But then again, I'm not entirely sure that watching Dairanger all the way through would even be necessary. =P

@bkev93 Apparently you just want me to give everything away! Dairanger is indeed pretty much strip mined for its monsters, mechs, and Kiba Ranger. Like I said, I haven't finished doing my research, but I don't think White Ranger is part of any Zyu2 footage. Zyu2 seems exclusively Zyuranger-based. Early season 2 of MMPR continued to use leftover Zyu2 footage, but they had to cut around elements like Megazord and replace it with stock shots of Dairenou from Dairanger.

Wait, wait, wait. Are you telling me that they ran out of Japanese action footage, but instead of filming their own, they asked Japan to make more?! That's crazy/awesome! What about all of the Power Ranger spin offs? Are all of their action sequences based on the Zyuranger spinoffs? I NEED TO KNOW!
