On the ear-biting fight : it was a fight between two dirty fighters.
Tyson was known for striking with his elbows (not all the time, of course), and Holyfield was headbutting Tyson all the time. And biting and drawing blood is a good (yet dirty) strategy to counter that.
Tyson's mistake? The second bite, the one that took part of Holyfield's ear off.
He should have tried to touch the injured ear in order to cause pain and prevent headbutts, yet he was caught on the heat of the moment.
Difference in my opinion between Frazier and Tyson (vs Ali) is that Frazier had great stamina and won in Manila partly because because of that (and the punishment he was dishing). Tyson was bigger and stronger than Frazier and was not so 1-handed but if he couldnt KO guys he wasnt that great down the stretch as Frazier.
a prime tyson was a top 10 heavyweight of all time but a prime tyson didnt have more heart or chin than ali. You prolly right tyson prolly did have a better chin than frazier but when it came to heart frazier had it all the way. No1 told tyson to overlook douglas thats his fault. Frazier would have beat Tyson Ali would have destroyed Tyson Foreman would have lost to Tyson Joe Louis would have destroyed them all
hell no u crazy u out your mind.....mike tyson wouldve ate them alive...it dont matter about the chin mike a 20 inch neck..he could eat punches..and the fight wit douglas they robbed mike tyson....ali needs to get hit on order for him to hit back...tihkn about it..intimefilm is correct..
ali would have beaten tyson. frazier had better stamina than tyson a better chin and tyson wasnt built for 15rounds. ali would have knocked him out he would have got into mike's head made him punch himself out made him feel like his punches dont hurt and koed him. douglas beat mike imagine wut ali would do even on tysons best day wouldnt be good enough for ali's worse day
ok ali was a wrack when he fought berbick sidont comparethis shit.but i think that too mike tyson is better as ali.tyson isthe best ever.1986-1989 there is no one who can beat tyson.
tyson would have knocked him out in the 3rd round i know he wasent bulits to last rounds like frazire and i know fraizer had a better chin but tyson has more agrison he can doge more punches and hes faster
sigh the little you know. Muhammad Ali discredits Joe Louis he said he could easily beat him over many other fighters in history. Mike would of beat frazier, mike liked shorter stocky guys like him, that was easier for him. 1.Muhammad ali 2.Evander holyfield, 3.Mike Tyson best hw of all time, period. Foreman is 5, but he easily would of beat Tyson if they fought, cuz by that time Tyson was coming out of prison(post prime) mike had trouble with the tall guys, and foreman was a beast.
WRONG its the opposite, have you seen tysons documentary? he said he loved to fight the taller guys because he knew how to fight them. He hated to fight shorter guys like himself.
only a real person that knows boxing knows that mike was not the best fighter ever evander was clearly better mike had the most important thing that helped him win which was fear from other opponents and evandeer wasnt buyin
Mike-when he fought Marvis Frazier, Pinklon Thomas, Spinks etc. geez, even Ali said that he couldn't have beat Mike (on Arsenio Hall).
But Ali was something else-he could box and he was a smart fighter. The way he outboxed Liston in Miami...tough to beat.
I don't count Foreman because even though he could hit-his stamina was lousy. Frazier's style was close to Mike's but he wasn't as good a fighter overall. Yet Joe pushed Ali to the limit
I would say that on their best days, Ali would win. When he fought Cleveland Williams he was totally awesome, and I dont think he could be beat.
I agree on your Frazier comment. In my book he was´nt that great a fighter. Very very good off course, but his legend status I think is because his style gave Ali trouble. Many ohter fighters over the years would have little troble with him, I think. Larry Holmes, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield to name a few.
Yeah, you could be right. One thing that nags me about that though is Ali used to get dropped by left hookers-even though it was early in his career, they didn't hit nearly as hard as Mike. Ali used to get dropped in sparring a lot latter on too-in the 1970's---and it only takes one good punch.
But yes, I think Ali probably would have won. Somehow, he would have came through.
I overally say that Mike could beat Ali in them good years. Mike was much more agressive, and I don't think Ali could dance away from him. They both were fast, but Mike was so far stronger. Time changed and the heavyweight class too. It's not a question they were the greatest in them time.
I guess it depends on which Ali and Tyson ? Both at peak form is a tough call! I would have to go with Ali .Ali fought at the level of his competion and disappointed us when he fought easy fights. A motivated Ali would baffle Tyson who gets frustrated and off his game when the fight does not go his way! Ali not showing fear of Tyson would have the same affect as the Douglas fight! Ali also faces adversity better than anyone, something Tyson never did! Still tough call!!
Having trained with both Mike and Evander, this is what I think would have happened:
Mike Tyson of 1986-1988 would have beat not only Evander of the 1990's, but Riddick Bowe & Lennox Lewis even easier.
I think he also would've beaten a younger Larry Holmes-who I think was a great boxer.
When Mike did lose, he wasn't at his all-time best (like the nights he destroyed Berbick & Spinks). The thing is, Mike liked to party a lot and that catches up with anyone-no matter who/how talented you are
not only party..but the money scandals and lawsuits, the death of dmato, prison, death of close friends, tyson was beaten before he even stepped into the ring sadly..but no one could of beaten him in his prime...he fought smart, hard, and str8 for the win,and ali said mike would of beaten him in his prime
Yeah, and in the documentary from 2009 he says he had gonorrhea and he was burning on the night he beat Berbick, "must've caught it from a filthy young lady", he said, if I remember correctly. And how Ali came to him and told him: "Get him for me". Man, that was epic.
I use to talk to Mike a lot (& still do) but I never knew that Ali told him that. Interesting...Yeah, a young Ali would have no problem with Berbick either.
Thanks for this post, good video, Holyfield is my 3rd favorite fighter of all time only after Tommy Morrison and Mike Tyson, looking forward to seeing more of his training.
Simply Tyson in 80's could had killed Holyfield in one round or two. In 90's Holyfield was simply more trained and Tyson was already out of the business. that's all.
It's a question of anatomy friend and yip, I'm qualified in mainking that judgment. It was obvious he was taking steroids and maybe still is and as he'll need them just as much now if he's to realistically compete.
Evander, did God say for you to take steroids to be the best you can be? aren't you altering what God gave you, so...what does that make you? yup....full o shit
I still feel Tyson is a better boxer Holyfield fought a very tactical fight and just holding him when ever Tyson got close. Clinching onto a guy like that should not be allowed i feel it's bad for the sport and guys should be made to stand toe to toe.
I always admired Evander The Real Deal Holyfield , its just the passion transformed into the art of boxing, as kjsm100 says he had and still has the biggest heart of a true champion, period.
No, just tossing the medicine ball back & forth after stretching out was another good way of warming up before sparring & other aerobic exercises such as jumping on & off a 2and a half foot tall box for 12 minutes straight. I wish I got more of that on tape but Evander, like other champions, don`t like their training being recorded in case it got out to the other camps.
Warming up exercises (like this medicine ball tossing) obviously weren`t that important if it.
I thought he won too but that's boxing/judges. Boxing is in a sad state right now and has been for a while--it needs another saviour like Ali, Louis, Tyson...
agreed. Maskaev/klitschko/chugaev are all great sportsmen, but their successes have come about due to a boxing crisis in america, imo. I'm russian, so I dont mind (:P) but i agree with the fact that boxing does need to get back to its feet - it's got boring
Don't forget that Ali was in exile during the years that normally are a boxer's finest. So we have never seen his 'prime'.

I don't agree with you fully on this:
Frazier a better chin? Besides Foreman, ever watch Joe fight Oscar Bonavena?
As well, Mike was partying big time before he fought Douglas.
And as for your last comment:
I'm sure that the Tyson who destroyed Berbick would have beat the Ali who lost to Berbick.
You should really think before you write...
