i know this sounds stupid but i was just wondering how u burn out. if it was just presing the gas and holding the handbrake at same time or what? plz let me no!
Lame, get a motor under the hood or put some gear in it!!!I dont ever want to hear a motor die after the brake is lifted!! you should have left a couple hundred feet of rubber at about 7000 rpm!!
Open it up, gear it up. Headers and big pipes out past the tail, big dual plane intake, port the exhaust (only matching the header and remove the bump inside), a hot cam can be fun, use tri-y headers, get a 380 Holly 4 barrel(lean it out and you will need a clutch fan and shroud) , big element air filter, some custom work may be required, if updated to an auto trans, reprogram to shift hard and as soon as it can and put in 272 gears in the rear.
I get 25mpg as long as I stay out of the primaries on my highly built 289 with a holley 650. But its also now a full roller back by a fordomatic with 2.73 gears in the rear.
kbess228; alot of factors such as gear ratio, traction, areodynamics play major factors. I am talking about 2 factory stock cars the only exception was the chevelle had headers as mine did not, and my 351cj had a mild crower cam and pro dialed everything in (tunning)wise so she was a fine tuned machine. I love big block chevys too, but i have witnessed many rat's get eaten by snakes
Dont let the low revs fool you, the 289 holds the world record to this day for the factory stock title. Done by a 289 4bbl fairlane 125mph 1/4 mile. The 351 windsor is just a longer stroke bigger bore 289. The 351 4v cleveland was Fords secret weapon against big block Chevy's. I know my stock 351cj beat a 454 chevelle by a fender.
Iggy...what "world record" are you talking about? When....where....what class?? I think you are so vague there that your comment doesn't make sense. And I love 289's....but the heads are horrible...and this motor would no where breathe as well as it's counterpart at the time...the Chev 283.
Now lets try it with a 351 c.i. instead of the 289 c.i.! When I finish rebuilding my 1965 Fairlane I think I will post a video of the burnout, because it has a 351 c.i. instead.

i have a 351 cleveland in my 36 ford(all steel body),and it runs pretty damn good.. but my chevelle with a bb would destroy it!
