Holy...Crap.. I made something a set of goggles almost identical to these, down to the position of the gears. @_o.. which I also got my gears from a junked car cd player, too much freakyness.
I still like it better than a blue-tooth. it looks like it will put off a lot less radiation as well. is that warm orange glow, off the left lens, the brotherly warmth of mars, or the burning spirit fire of the sun,?. so, yeah.,. & stuff. mad kudo's for making the game day deadline. I would like a longer video, explaining more. still, gave it a like.
@thegrief13 same~~~ i have no idea where to start lol. expecially with the moving parts stuff. i don't think i have any engineering talent. the closest thing i could think of was jewelry, and i've started with some chainmaille stuff. xD
great work, just as an afterthought you might consider adding a potentiometer / rheostat to controll the speed of the motor it seems a bit fast especialy if you have longer hair lol
They are really good, I wouldn't be able to make anything close to that, but since they are steampunk, ain't using a visible battery a quite bad idea?
@MechaLuigi3000 fallout 3 is steampunk influenced, so you're right in a way. the armored guy on the game's cases' cover says it all.
my favorite steampunk game is Arcanum, from the victorian music to the guns (tesla gun <3), and in the first town you get to there's a steam engine in the church!
The gears came out of a Car CD player that had the automatic face that flips around backwards (It is in the video description). You can find similar gears in most any home appliance that has a motor. Let me know what you build, I'd love to see it.
I agree with a lot of the people commenting it doesn't look too steampunk because of the electric motor. I mean just because someone is trying to go for the steam punk look doesn't mean it needs gears. I mean the gears are a nice touch but in don't know if it's for the goggles.
Yet not really cyberpunk either. It's like a mix of the two. I do like it though, and I could probably take and develop this design into something more steam punk.
Yeah, I did some research and in fact, found a website that actually sell steampunk gear. I never knew how artistic and creative steam punk was. To me, its like creativity and intelligence fused together.
Best way to explain it to someone is... Ever seen Wild Wild West? Just think sci-fi, but based around steam engine technology and/or time period. Like the Time Machine. Or if you're into anime you can check out Steamboy.
The times when only trains were around , and modern technology today , combined , so basicly everything is powered by things that would look like a train .
It started as a type of book and grew to a clothing style that people adore. Steampunk is basically what would happen if the Industrial Revolution happened in the Victorian times.
First off thank you for not calling me an idiot for not knowing, secondly, VERY intersting look. I googled it after sending the message on here, very cool looking
steampunk is a genre of fantasy. Steampunk's defining characteristics are usually, but not always the following. A vicotrian setting. Often times outlandish and uncharacteristic inventions are reimagined for the time period, often using 'steam power' since it was predominate in the era. That's more traditional steampunk, but it can vary. Jules verne is often thought of one of the pioneers of the genre (if you're familiar with hiswork), though the term wasn't coined till the 1970s i believe.
Sorry if iam being rude but it's not just a clothing style, like you said it started with books but there are also movie's, band's, anime's/manga's, video games etc that are related to Steampunk, if anything i always call it a "Genre".
Aslo, the Industrial Revolution actualy took place during Victorian times, Steampunk is about what would've happend if that persisted.
This is kind of inspiring me to visit the optometrist, get my regular eye checkup, choose circular lenses, and build my own frame. Would be much better than boring regular glasses.
The goggles are jus amazing, but, yes there is some 'but', the showing platform is just an spinning manually reversed plate. That is sooo steampunk! ;]
