@morgalactic If you don't care, why did you ask the question? She didn't 'waste' the record deal she won. She was busy writing songs for her next album when she was caught between the merger of Sony and BMG where a lot of Australian artists were let go. Other AI artists who signed with Sony but didn't last include: Kate, Dean, Natalie, Lee, Paulini, Emily. Hayley Warner is yet to have a significant hit. There's no guarantees for an amazing life in the music industry even with a record deal.

At the moment she's support act for Cyndi Lauper, is about to start a residency at Stonewall, has just finished a successful national tour with the musicial 'The Sapphires', was nominated for 2 Sydney theatre awards, won Best Supporting Actress at the Daegu International Musical Theatre Festival, released 2 singles last year, is currently working on her next album and is to star in a new musical 'Flowerchildren' in August. Nah, Casey has done nothing.

She's off to London next month to headline the musical 'The Sapphires' - a role for which she won Best Supporting Actress at the Daegu International Musical Theatre Festival last year and was nominated for two Sydney Theatre Awards - best newcomer and best actress in a musical.

you know why the runner up always gets further?? its cuz they hav longer to record their album than the winner does! so all this money goes into throwing together a quick job album that has one good song and the rest crappy ones!!! i think the winner only has like a week to write (or get songs written for them) and record the whole thing!! usually albums take like 6 months if u want them to be full of hits!! the moral of the story is, if ya gonna go on these shows aim for runner up not winner!

It prob was rigged. I think the winner has to give the earnings of their first album to the company due to the terms and conditions of the contest. I remember there was an article about the winner leigh that aussie country dude that won. He didnt get 1c from the first album. No royalties, nothing.....becuz the conditions says the profit will go to the company first....

@hasher22 That's incorrect. The winner doesn't receive any royalties from performances or recordings from the show. Damien Leith's first album 'The Winner's Journey' was taken directly from recordings of the show. It was for this reason that he didn't receive any money for it. The first album of previous winners consisted of new recordings so they did receive a share of the profits. After Leith, the winner's album wasn't taken from direct recordings of the show.

@raydc2r Let, me see - maybe because Casey had the generic winner's single (the worst of them IMO) that was unlike any of the public's favourite performances of hers on AI. And maybe because Anthony got as his first single his standout performance on AI.
It's funny how those who like to spout the difference in cd sales between the two fail to mention that Casey's album OUTSOLD Anthony's.
'Rigging' votes is a serious charge. If you have evidence you should produce it.

@raydc2r Her album did outsell Anthony's - look it up. Anthony was easier to market - Casey was dropped by Sony because she wasn't the 'image' they wanted - nothing to do with cd sales. Casey didn't disappear 'off the face of the earth' - just because you weren't watching doesn't mean she wasn't active. It might surprise you to know that Casey has been involved in indigenous radio and tv, did gigs, even bought out an EP (available on intunes if want to have a listen).

SONY dropped her contract and i did not see any good hits come from her.. that clarifies that she cannot sing, her conversation skills are shocking, this was discussed throughout the entire idol series... that covers that she can't talk, look at all her auditions and stand ups, show me one that is exciting.... i aint seen 1 yet. @angelzpoo hahaha...sad thing is... Sony dropped her because she was too fat...even though she tried to loose the weight... after 1 year of winning. She wrote her own songs... which became property of Sony BMG and were later given to the Veronicas :S
