Other charted versions; Dion {#48/1963} and The Beach Boys {#18/1982}

I hope they invent time machines soon Im ADDICTED to the 50s and 60s!! I SO wanna go back in time to enjoy this music!! :D Also this is one of my favorite songs of the 50s!! :)
so what we get drunk? so what we dont sleep? jesus it kills me to listen to that shit at my job fuck wiz kalifa, he should take a couple of notes here that asshole.
@PurdyMusic That destroyed my heart. I've never thinked of it that way. I really want that Time machine too. Wanna go back to the time while STand by me still was a new movie and there's no remixed fake songs!
I swear to God I lived in this decade in the past, because for the past 3 years, I have practically lived in it. I love it and can't get enough of it. I have records, movie projectors, tube radios, and so on. I can't get enough of this decade!!
I see a guy driving an old country road that I take to school. He has the most badass studebaker! all cream with the tiny oval window in the back and black on the tips of the fins where the chrome separates the two. I just imagine him cruising to this. :D The same car was in the cornfield across from his house last spring. It was rusty with no trim.
@birdoben50 Sometime you don't know if your fantasy is the reality...such as dreaming,is your dreams your reality or the fantasy your real life. Think about this...can you really remember the day you knew you were you? But all in all love the song, and most oldies.
I'm 14, and how much i would love to be in the 50's, have $5.00 go to a diner, and get the old glass bottled coke, and a burger, still have plenty of money for a kid, and best of all, the girls, not the yuppy girls of today who have to stay in line with styles. back then the girls had dignity and dressed amazingly, come to think of it, so did the boys and everyone else. it was amazing. one of the best things though, was the scene of American pride!!
@axack9 yup, back when when all the girls didnt dress like sluts, the cars were beautiful, the economy was better, and yea, there were some racial issues, but the culture was richer, and the music was a hell of a lot better
@axack9 I know same here, but appriciate what we have now. Some day in the year 2070 right now will be so old and vintage. People are going to say "I wish things were like they were in the '10's. Back when music was better than what we have now, and back when they sold soda in little cans for only $2. Girls dressed with such dignity and boys knew how to treat a girl." Because who knows how MORE messed up the future will be. We got it pretty good right now.
@BriannaBlog Maybe, maybe not, Hard to predict which way things will go in the future. It might revert to the way things were in the 50s in some ways while in other ways it might change in ways we couldn't imagine. Or it might not. In 2070 I'll be pushing 90, so I just hope I'm still around then. But with medical advancements, I might live to be 150.
@BriannaBlog Agreed. I love music/movies and hearing about how it was back in the day, but I hate hearing people complain how it is now; you gotta work with what you got! ;)
@cottoneyepodflowers I know, right? Or when people complain that there's too much technology, but can you imagine what it's going to be like decades from now? An ipad will be laughed at! Also all the cars that we see around us are going to be vintage and classic one day. 50 years from now in 2061 people are going to be like "Yep, I have a 2011 mustang, it's pretty sweet."
@axackI'm going to my nana's funeral and I'm going to get a suit.. The main reason for the suit is because I'm a classy guy and I want to let people know I am.. And god dammit no matter how hard I'm getting a Shubert Beverly (a car)and a 50's themed house!
@axack9 you got it right on honey, and the mom's dressed like Lois Lane. At Smitty"s drugstore a coke was 5 cents, cherry coke was 6 cents and the older kids would drink quarts of Schlitz beer around the mailbox outside. Then they ride off on the cushman motor scooters!!
luv the song, but, not the sit-com HAPPY DAYS. Wolfman Jack brings back memories of central Ca. in the summer in the 60's,We would always have sailors at our house from the nearby Lemoore NAS. My brother-n-law wd visit my sis and he always brought 5or 6 guys who were hanging around the gates for rides, anywhere! So they came to us,Mom wd. feed them and drive the back in the wee hrs. we always listened to Wolfman driving the hot country roads in desolate areas, brings back memories.

Here' some "golden" trivia about this song. When John Lennon had a band called The Quarrymen, he was singing this song and forgot the lyrics. When he substituted "Come with me to the penitenuary" during a live performance, guess who was in the audience, brought there by a friend Ivan? It was Paul McCartney and that's how him and John Lennon met!
@BullworthPinUpGirl im 32 but grew up with this music, so much better then todays crap, but still listen to the new stuff. pretty much listen everything.
One of those 50's songs that played a part in the formation of the Beatles. Fourteen year old Paul McCartney went to see the Quarrymen play and saw one charismatic boy in the front who couldnt remember the words to this song = John Lennon.
Awesome. Kudos! American music would never sound the same without the amazing rich, generous (often stolen) contribution and influence by black artists. Here's a fine example. THANKS for posting.
@DigitalLazarus I think the real borrowers were the ones across the Atlantic, they needed the rock'n'roll rebellion more than we did. They were in a state of tea drinking living death, with an inbred monarchy siphoning the taxes. Like George Harrison said in 1964 "They've got everything over there, what do they want us for?"
@TheAmericanOriginal - Your reply may be true when it comes to the UK being influenced by American Blues, Pop, Jazz, etc. I was referring to our fellow Americans pilfering the genius of her own black artists and sanitizing original material for a segregated audience. Everything from Pat Boon (yikes!), Elvis to the Beach Boys. As far as your view of post-WWII Britain, you may wish to check your facts as they are somewhat distorted. I suggest reading "Life" by Keith Richards as a great start....
@DigitalLazarus "Somewhat distorted" could easily translate to "just being my opinion". But thank you for being relatively patriotic when replying to my reply :)

We should all get together and go to the 1950's, just to see what it's like.

@okellydokelly he was in American Graffiti, a very popular movie from the 70's that was about the 50's. That is where most of there pictures are from

The music formula: Increase of time = Decrease of music quality
xZippy38 8 months ago 2
@xZippy38 that makes no sense, in that case there would be better music before the early Egyptians than in the 50's.
